Shortly after Elfsborg cracked one against the crossbar last night I quickly scanned the Celtic team and had a thought. For the second season in a row we are taking on the Swedish champions but we’re missing two of last season’s big performers and none of this season’s new signings were ready for action. In short, this was Celtic 2012 minus Wanyama and Hooper. No wonder we looked unstructured.
Joe Ledley brought some vision to central midfield when he arrived, hopefully banishing the Brown-Kayal partnership to hidden corners of our mind once and for all. Anthony Stokes playing at the front of a wide diamond was equally effective. With the signing of Amido Balde, bids in for Kevin Doyle, and the addition of a wide-delivery-expert Derk Boerrigter, clearly Neil Lennon has a different plan for the months to come….. so there’s no real need for me to state the obvious.
Defensively we looked solid after a shaky opening few minutes. I’m not the only one who was a bit nervous about Efe Ambrose after he was (again) caught underneath a long ball, but he settled quickly. As we know to our cost, being great for 87 minutes is not how Champions League reputations are made, you are judged on your how vulnerable you become in your weak moments.
I said yesterday that Samaras and Commons were the two players who could cope at this level, which became plainly obvious during the game. Georgios was the one player who frightened Elfsborg, they either swamped him with four defenders or fouled him before he got near goal.
Kris is simply the most intelligent footballer we have. He is not the fastest, will never have the best stats, but he understands how games are won and is able to act accordingly. Without these two players Celtic would be distinctly vanilla.
Thanks to those who sent over their 1254125 Great Scottish Run details, I’ll have them on the page later.

When I got into the ground at Seville, I set about buying some programmes. Couldn’t get one anywhere. Eventually came across a guy who had what looked like maybe only 50 left. Bingo. I dash towards him. 10 please, how much?
“Ahm no selling thum mate, ah bought these”
Still never seen one. Anyone out there has one for sale…I’m interested. Name yer price.
Question for Tom, BMCUW, BT, or indeed anyone who might know….”is there a programme from Lisbon in 67″?
I’d bring in Doyle…..
He do a great job for us up front……
I think we’ll get him for around 1M
I’d also sell Banguras to any team from Siberia or China or outer Mongolia…….
Snake……
Should never be allowed to pull on the hoops again…..
The Bells of Hell are waiting for him……. :)))))
Rangers were hit with a £50,000 fine and handed a 12-month registration embargo by the SFA last year after going into administration.
MSM reporting what they are told to without question. The registration embargo was a seperate punishment. Surely they remember the whole going to court thing.

I believe the programme was reprinted, so many going about aren’t authentic souvenirs of the day.
Another tremendous result for St Johnstone last night.
Just a pity the qualifiers yield only half the normal country co-efficient points.
One of the few comforts in a Hun’s life just now is slobbering at the thought of Scottish clubs being humiliated in Europe. Great to see the Saints stick two fingers up to the promoters of Armageddon.

True.
I am however not entirely disconsolate at Motherwell getting humped.

Thanks.
Seriously, Celtic need to closely look at their “player on loan” contracts.
Having Bangura play against his parent club in a Champions League qualifier is a basic school boy error on behalf of our contracts people.
If i was NFL I’d be wanting someone fired……
It shopuld be the first line of the loan deal…..
You cant play against your parent club…..
how simple is that……

Twists and turns
Re Seville programmes
There was a heavily done reprint
The originals contain a postcard from Seville with the final theme logo attached to page 3 – i believe the reprint doesn’t
There is also a terrible reprint of 1967 ECF
Details at http://www.celticprogrammesonline.com (or is it co.uk)
just to warn you that there are subtle differences between the original programmes and the reprint – as was pointed out to me once – but don’t ask me what they are
Twists n Turns
There is a guy who sells old Celtic programmes from a van which is parked behind the LL stand on matchdays.
I was talking to him on Tues night about a 1967 EC programme he had for sale.
Do you want me to ask him on Sat if he has any original Seville programmes for sale?

I think if we have loaned a player out that we do not think is good enough for our first team squad then we shouldn’t be too vexed about him playing against us. Personally I think the wee mind games was aimed at trying to get Elfsborg to buy Bangura outright (but hey they are not that stupid).
normanstreet49
Spot on mate , somebody messed up big style . Another mistake which allowed the MSM the chance to take another few kicks at Celtic .
HH
Good morning friends and a Big Happy Friday from a dry but overcast and windy East Kilbride.
I do not think that Bangura has any future at Celtic Park not because he played against us but because he is not very good.
Personally in regard to Special K I think we are looking at the wrong Wolves player. I think the one man baby boom (whilst he appears to be a sh*t of a human being) Leigh Griffiths would be a good signing. Even half fit he was the only Hibs player that caused us any trouble in the final with his run beyond the defenders. He makes intelligent movement and has a sweet left foot but prefers to come in from the right so that the goal opens up for him.
He obviously does not have a high IQ but he does have a good football brain.
Indeed well done to St Johnstone. They are compiling an impressive set of results. I hope they can get into the Europa League proper.

Out of curiousity I had a look at the Sevco bit on the BTsport site.
Must have been written by a rabid sevconian.
They will add another title to their list of honours.??
then couple of mentions of Celtic.
“headline they would most like to see – super Ally goes ballistic Celtic are atrocious”????
Does anyone kno where u can buy
CQN magazines in glasgo?
Past issues as well.
It will be interesting to note the progress of Rogne now that he has left the building. If he has a long run of games without injury it would question our training/medical setup. (taking into account how often Celtic players get fouled)
