Back-to-back away games are statistically more likely to result in points being dropped than any other games (especially if one is a European game), so the probability of Aberdeen dropping points in Inverness last night was high. Their second night-game in the same week, on Friday at Firhill, will also be a genuine challenge. I can’t find enough occurrences of a team having two away games in the same midweek to draw any statistical inference but I’m glad it’s Aberdeen’s lot, not Celtic’s.
That result felt profound. Celtic can use the opportunity of a quiet week to prep for the visit of Inverness. A Highland double would go a long way towards the title.
On the “Atlantic League” story, little detail has been reported on what’s happened (ignore what has been reported) and where it’s heading. The project is not at a mature stage yet, it’s not an Atlantic League, it’s not a collaboration of clubs from small nations, and no lower league clubs, anywhere, have been involved. Apart from that, the story’s fine.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has kicked the sleeping dog. We’ll see where he barks.
Time is running out for you to register for the Celtic Park Zip Slide, in aid of the Foundation, which takes place next month. I did it last year and it was genuinely exhilarating. Go here and register.

Disagreed with your opinions on the standard of some of our players .

I look at what Ronny Dee is building and feel extremely positive about our future.
I read posts from Ronny haters on here and become bemused.

Dalgleish was another of our managers who didn’t like the hacks…..one of the radio hacks tried to be smart after a draw at celtic park……anyway the hacks line of introduction upset KD……….KD replied “Are you asking me a question or making a statement” …..interview ended at short notice………….always wondered if its compulsory sfa thing for our managers to be degraded in giving interviews to these tossers.

Set up in the 1950s to take statements from all surviving participants of 1916/war of independence etc.Anyone who made a statement was given assurances that nothing would be made public until everyone was dead.
A couple of years ago they were released and are available online,Fascinating stuff
Just type in whatever word you deem relevant Glasgow,Maryhill,Coatbridge etc and you will get links to all statements that contain references to them.

Late one tonight lads, I’d be interested in your take on this;
Is some of the pressure Ronny is under due to him “not being Celtic minded”?
And did we REALLY “force Gordon Strachan out the door” for the same?
http://thecelticblog.com/2016/02/blogs/celtic-fans-the-mistreatment-of-bosses
=====================================================
Firstly, being ‘Celtic Minded’ has never been a factor in the majority of fans’ treatment of a Celtic manager. Jock Stein could hardly have been described as Celtic Minded when he took the job.
I’ve always thought of ‘Celtic Minded’ as an ironic term parodying the narrow misconceptions cast our way by the bigots in the Scottish media. A typical Hun would employ such a euphemism for a Catholic Celtic man, or one perceived as such due to his footballing allegiance.
Of Ronny Delia you wrote:
‘He is a guy the fans want to like,’
I’d agree. Amiable, passionate, enthusiastic, plenty of desire to succeeed.
But just doesn’t seem to have a clue. I’ve been completely ill at ease with his management of Celtic since his first bungled effort against Maribor; a tie harder to lose than win, but with inane, confusing and damaging tactical changes we did.
Since then we’ve contrived to balls more Euro campaigns and chuck some crucial domestic ties as well.
Every time there’s a crunch, we’re at it with the bite power of a chihuahua. We’re gone with a whimper and bemusing tactical compromises to puzzle over.
Of the past 18 months, Ronny’s much lauded dynamic system has worked for less than 2 of them. Players fill the jerseys when they haven’t done anything to earn them, other players warm the bench or get loaned out for no obvious reasons – they are never played to judge them – and their replacements often offer much less to the team.
Celtic managers should carry some sort of authority, some kind of aura and the trust of the support. I shouldn’t be watching and wondering wtf is going on and calling out the manager on shambolic tactics and wondering and waiting for a change to manifest; no, he should be waaay ahead of me – I should be focussed on player performance primarily, concerned only about the contribution they make within a solid, sensible system that plays to the team’s strengths.
I and other fans should TRUST in the manager’s tactics and team selection; changes to either should be accepted as the workings of a football mind beyond my ken. They shouldn’t flag up red. They constantly do flag up red under Ronny. Bemusement is the norm now whilst watching the Hoops; bemusement with team selection and deployment.
I hate thinking poorly of a Celtic manager’s nous. The guy should be of, or display such, football savvy that my rantings are no more than the empty words of a frustrated boozed-up fan on an off-night, that his body of work with my team relegates my misgivings to flippant jibes, lost in the glow of achievement he brings.
Not the case with Ronny D. Sad to say it, those agitated voices at the back of me head have proven their worth. I don’t think about Celtic 24-7. I don’t have to; He does. I’m just an eejit fan; he’s the Celtic manager.
So why do I – and thousands of others across the Celtic boards – now make observations that are tellingly accurate about his job? We shouldn’t have a clue. I prefer not to have a clue. I prefer there to be a mystique about a Celtic boss that makes people like me – like all of us outside looking in – raise our hands in surrender at the magic he works; MON pumping the financially-doped Huns senseless, WGS beating the reigning european Champions and Man U, Lenny making it through to the CL last 16 TWICE…
All joyous sorcery delivered by divine magi that I neither want to analyse nor have the secrets revelead to me.
But with RD it’s gone from sorcerer’s apprentice to monkey with a loaded gun/Celtic’s savings in less than two seasons.
He’s a fine guy, but I just can’t see where the magic’s going to come from.

Well.
That just about says it all for me.
By all means provide a face saving solution for him , but a solution for Celtic must be the priority , because we sure need one.
The Jimmy Mc Grory solution ?
On the other hand , I have a lot of optimism in our pool of players , particularly some of our recent recruits.

CHANGES TO CUP COMPETITIONS
============================
With the impending changes to cup competitions both north and south of the border, I should like to offer the following for discussion.
Cup-Tied
————-
I see no reason, bearing in mind clubs can only sign players once (January) during the actual season, that this old-fashioned law need apply these days. Clubs sign players to win prizes or to maintain their status, why should cup-ties be different?
Extra-Time
—————
I propose that if teams are level after extra-time and one/both team(s) is(are) down to ten players, that both teams should start with eleven during extra-time. It seems grossly unfair that having a man sent off can impact twice – once on the actual match and then in a ‘re-match’ in extra-time. If only one team has had a player sent off then the opposing team should be allowed to use a fourth substitute in extra-time, so no ‘fresh-man’ advantage could be claimed.
Penalties
————-
I think that penalty-kicks should be ‘sudden-death from the start, whilst both teams have their best (nominated) kickers in place.
