League pivots south, not quite Atlantic League

635

Back-to-back away games are statistically more likely to result in points being dropped than any other games (especially if one is a European game), so the probability of Aberdeen dropping points in Inverness last night was high. Their second night-game in the same week, on Friday at Firhill, will also be a genuine challenge.  I can’t find enough occurrences of a team having two away games in the same midweek to draw any statistical inference but I’m glad it’s Aberdeen’s lot, not Celtic’s.

That result felt profound.  Celtic can use the opportunity of a quiet week to prep for the visit of Inverness. A Highland double would go a long way towards the title.

On the “Atlantic League” story, little detail has been reported on what’s happened (ignore what has been reported) and where it’s heading.  The project is not at a mature stage yet, it’s not an Atlantic League, it’s not a collaboration of clubs from small nations, and no lower league clubs, anywhere, have been involved.  Apart from that, the story’s fine.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has kicked the sleeping dog.  We’ll see where he barks.

Time is running out for you to register for the Celtic Park Zip Slide, in aid of the Foundation, which takes place next month.  I did it last year and it was genuinely exhilarating.  Go here and register.

I see from earlier ‘ reports ‘ that Sevco scored in 3 mins Waghorn( pen ) : that could be his surname : . Anyway SSN only has Waghorn 3 mins, no mention of a penalty. Was it a penalty?

The Free Polish Air Force were a formidable crew. My father fought alongside them in bomber command. He told me they were the bravest of the brave.

The Poles were totally blanked after the war, they did such but got no credit.

I love the bit in the film, The Battle of Britain, where the Polish pilots are out on a training flight and come across some German bombers. A formidable race of people….

Thiago Motta of PSG is the same player as the Barca player sent off against us in 2004.

  7. I suppose as far as having strength on the bench is concerned, Cavani’s not a bad measure of squad quality.

  8. Ghod these boys down at shortbread are on their news praying for a Hearts goal just as Rob goes ape as Sevconians take the lead.

I believe they also performed magnificently in their task of ” cleaning out ” the entrenched Germans amongst the rubble of Monte Cassino.

    Thiago Motta

Portuguese: [tʃiˈaɡu ˈmɔtɐ]; Italian: [ˈmɔtta]; born 28 August 1982) is an Italian professional footballer who plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain F.C. mainly as a central midfielder.

He spent his early career at Barcelona, where he was injury-prone.[1] He also played two and a half seasons with Internazionale before joining Paris Saint-Germain, winning 20 major titles between the three clubs combined.

Born in Brazil, Motta is also a citizen of Italy.[2] He represented the latter national team since 2011, appearing at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup and finishing second in the first tournament.

  13. I have seen the huns a couple of times this season, they are much fitter than they were under the fplg, slightly better at playing the game, but from what I have seen of Dundee this season, no way can I see anything other than a Dundee win, given a fair referee, so that’s the hun through then.

  14. No team left in the competition should pose a serious threat to us notwithstanding our recent catalogue of Hampden disasters.

  15. BURNLEY78 on 16TH FEBRUARY 2016 9:38 PM

I think Dundee will give the plucky new giant killers a taste of reality in the next round.

    ——————————————————————————————————————————-

No they won’t. Dundee are mince and have only two players of note, Bain and Stewart. Also they don’t have anyone whose surname ends in Pen.
