League pivots south, not quite Atlantic League

635

Back-to-back away games are statistically more likely to result in points being dropped than any other games (especially if one is a European game), so the probability of Aberdeen dropping points in Inverness last night was high. Their second night-game in the same week, on Friday at Firhill, will also be a genuine challenge.  I can’t find enough occurrences of a team having two away games in the same midweek to draw any statistical inference but I’m glad it’s Aberdeen’s lot, not Celtic’s.

That result felt profound.  Celtic can use the opportunity of a quiet week to prep for the visit of Inverness. A Highland double would go a long way towards the title.

On the “Atlantic League” story, little detail has been reported on what’s happened (ignore what has been reported) and where it’s heading.  The project is not at a mature stage yet, it’s not an Atlantic League, it’s not a collaboration of clubs from small nations, and no lower league clubs, anywhere, have been involved.  Apart from that, the story’s fine.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has kicked the sleeping dog.  We’ll see where he barks.

Time is running out for you to register for the Celtic Park Zip Slide, in aid of the Foundation, which takes place next month.  I did it last year and it was genuinely exhilarating.  Go here and register.

  1. Now now WITS

Cork has several things going for it. 253 to be exact as that’s how many kms it’s away from Dublin ;-)

Dunno if true, but I was told it was the fourth official who screamed ‘Penalty’ into Collum’s ear.

  3. Re Scott Brown and CQN support for Stefan Johanson, it might be worth noting that excellent passes from him created 4 goal scoring chances for Celtic v Ross County in the first half. Check BBC highlights. But hey ho let’s boo him off the field on the slightest pretext.

  4. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

    Blantyrekev, re Dallas the younger.

He has gone from being the fourth official at the 2012 junior cup final to the SFA’s eufa/fifa list in just over three years. He was placed in the list about four months ago. That is some going , you would think his faither had some sort of influence.

Kenny Shiels was no admirer of us but he really was taken for a ride by Dallas the younger despiteShiels having proof what he was accused of was a lot of mince.

Good luck to eoghan o connell at cork city. League of Ireland is not too bad a standard and cork would be one of the better teams. ..However they are from cork which is unfortunate

O’Connell is also a Cork native

Cork city have been unlucky these last 2 years to come up against an excellent dundalk side, I don’t know if they will do it this year but it would be good for football down there if they did.

Yes I knew where young o connell was from.

That’s why it’s so unfortunate for him to have to go back. ..

Colin healy still plays for cork and I think liam Miller had a spell with them

I am a stranger in a strange land here in Cork. But have not forgiven the halfwits in the Cork support who jeered and insulted the Celtic supporters who attended a fund raising game to try and save their club for them.

Nobody holds a grudge like a Lurgan man. :@

  10. A man in Glasgow has been fined a paltry £400 after claiming Muslims were behind the Glasgow Bin Lorry crash.

The above is the result of a lifetime reading the Daily Record & the Sun.

If only Journalists were similarly held to account for their outrageous claims…..

  11. Listening to Sportsound, Michael Stewart slaughtering Collum, rightly so. Strange that they don’t bring on Dougall or Clark to defend him! Does that only happen when one club complains about poor refereeing performances?

Cork is a beautiful place with a very important role in Irelands History.

Its only problem is that it is hundreds of miles away from anywhere.

The young loanee from Man City looks a prospect but let’s not get carried away, he’s playing against under 19’s while his own team was made up of a fair few 1st team squad members.

The thing that worries me about all the talking up of him is that it appears it will be the next thing used against Ronny. Let’s hope I’m wrong but I wouldn’t bet against it.

I was at that match – from memory they were booing Tom Coughlan, the ‘owner’ at the time.

Few years back they had financial problems and a game was organised in Cork against a Celtic xi. The Cork “ultras”, no laughing, spent the game singing stuff like”champions league you’re having a laugh”, “why don’t you support your local team” and heckling the Celtic players and even their own chairman when he tried to do the half time charity penalty shoot. Basically acted like spoilt brats all night.

I remember posting here that night boy was I most definitely disgruntled.

See bendigo s comments above re the cork chairman.

As for the other chants that’s what football fans do. I would expect no less if the visitors were man utd or Liverpool so why anything different for celtic

I had a passing acquaintance with Tom Coughlan and a bigger muppets you would struggle to find but not all the abuse was directed at him.

Funnily enough it was an outstanding tax liability from the time before he became chairman that was the problem so technically not his fault. If I recall correctly.

  18. Dallas,Fleming and the Referees Association are guilty of the failed product placement,of Catholic referee Willie Collum, who has been promoted well beyond his capabilities. It was done deliberately, aided by a few convenient newspaper articles,to highlight his religion and his job. All to try and prove there is no bias from referees and the SFA. Any game he’s involved in descends into chaos,he shouldn’t be in charge of a primary school game. To back up my point, does anyone know the occupation and religion of any other Grade 1 referees? I think we could have an educated guess at some of them……….

  19. WITS

I thought it showed a lack of class and simple manners to slag off the very people who paid good money to save their club when they couldn’t.

Don’t ever recall Celtic supporters going out of their way to antagonise opposition fans at a friendly. Newcastle United neds at the opening of the new stand started it but we’re soon drowned out.

Spot on – ‘Ultras’? just a bunch of kids from a small town enjoying their moment in the lights – as for the Chairman, he deserved everything he got – Cork City are now owned and run by the fans

  21. I didnt know what religion Wullie Collum was until I read it on here.

Tried to get the official word on it yet again, the Collum all-seeing eyes moment, while 2 who were at the recent Carfin event at which he was a guest were on, but no joy. He was wired up, but I saw no flag and,for me, to take his assistant’s word on it immediately, with no consultation, especially when he had seen nothing, was strange. Less hassle awarding it rather than not was the thinking, I’d imagine.
