Legia looming

847

Celtic have played four games against Polish opposition, losing to Legia Warsaw and Wisla Crakow in 2006 friendlies, drawing thanks to a very late Kenny Dalglish goal against Wislaw, before losing the return game. We’re going to need to break new ground if we’re to reach the Champions League play-off round.

As I predicted, you can ignore the 1-1 draw with St Pat’s last week, Legia are a far better team than that result suggested and it now looks like they have thrown off their summer slumber.

Time to hit form, Celtic.

    Good stuff from Jim McGuiness:

Donegal manager Jim McGuinness admits it is a ‘privilege’ to be working with the Celtic first team after a spell with the Scottish champions’ development squad.

McGuinness, who last week led Donegal to their third provincial crown in four years, had been lured to Celtic Park by previous boss Neil Lennon after delivering the Sam Maguire in September 2012.

Lennon was convinced the Glenties man’s ‘skill-set’ would work across both codes and new Celtic manager Ronny Deila required little time to be convinced of his worth to the side.

The Norwegian has promoted the 41-year-old to a consultancy role with the seniors and McGuinness is relishing the challenges ahead.

Speaking to Today with Sean O’Rourke on Irish radio, he said: “It’s been fantastic, a privilege.

“Most of my work was with the development squad, but now I have more of a role with the first-team.

“Ronny is keen on the psychological side of things. He is very driven by high performance and balancing that with high energy.

“He likes to keep his players positive and fresh and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Have you got any proof that Hamas is using people as human shields, or are you just happy to parrot Israeli propaganda? There are journalists all over Gaza – if it was happening you’d think they’d have seen it by now.

The problem in Palestine is the illegal Israeli Occupation. End that and things would change straight away. What other country would put up with a military occupation for almost 50 years, their children being murdered daily and their lands constantly stolen? Israel only does what it does because it has superior firepower and the political backing of the US and UK. It’s a shameful situation.

Are my comments offensive because they are a crass generalisation – which I fully accept – or because you don’t agree that one can be anti-Zionist without being anti-Semitic?

Or offensive because I highlighted that both issues share the connection of the intentional obscuring of the real issue which is in this case that the Zionist war machine is backed by unrelenting UK/western propaganda and whataboutery

I didn’t know about the trouble until I received a call from A Ceiler Gonof Rust,he said there had been trouble and the bars were closed, when I arrived at around eleven, the Bars were indeed closed and there had been 72 arrests, I had to walk about 1/2 a mile to get to where A Ceiler Gonof Rust and his son & desertbhoy were drinking.Trouble must have started after you had left for Glasgow..

That story was reported on Radio 2 around 3pm yesterday, and I was appalled.

However, serious doubt has since been cast.

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/24/isis-deny-ordering-fgm-girls-mosul

However,it should be banned worldwide for the act is utter barbarism that it is

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_genital_mutilation

and indeed has been subject to a UN banning order since 2012.

Fat lot of attention anyone paid to that. Even in the UK,where it is estimated that 137,000 women living here have been subjected to it.

  7. My two bit on the Gazza situation

    1. No way should a nation ( and they are according to UN) be firing at areas which could kill civilians, Children for goodness sake

    2. Hamas firing rockets from an area not bigger than the east end of Glasgow also knowing what Israel does they know that this will result in children’s deaths on their own side

My biggest issue is the UN

They should be sending in troops now to stop this on both sides

Indeed I think is Israel as a country should be punished with sanctions etc

    Really really awfull

The FGM story by Isis is a hoax by all accounts.

You do not have to be a Hamas supporter by default if you condemn the genocide being perpetrated by Israel in Gaza at the minute. I have been absolutely astounded by the failure of the media to call it as it is.

There was an item on RTE News on what was happening and the Chief Surgeon in the largest hospital stated that 95% of the casualties were “innocents” and 60% were women and children.

People on here were talking about what was a “proportionate response” by Israel ( the term response in itself is laughable) is murdering 5% of combatants against 95% non combatants proportionate or acceptable. He also stated that the main power supply for the Hospital and surrounding area had been targeted on June 17th leaving the Hospital unable to carry out routine operations re oncology, cardiology et al from that date.

The Israeli operation in Gaza has more to do with the horrific murder of the 3 Israeli teenagers than the Hamas rocket attacks. Israel,as was proven, had the technology to cope with the rocket attacks. In excess of 300 Palestinians had died in Israels response to the rocket attacks before an Israeli had died as a consequence of them.

People have been drawing comparisons with what was happening in the North of Ireland. Firstly what is happening in Gaza is genocide, murder on a much grander scale. Israel in many respects are doing exactly what the British Govt did here. They are ensuring that the conflict will continue for many generations by their current actions. Bloody Sunday, Collusion with Loyalist paramilitaries, Internment without trial, sentencing policy and all of the state apparatus including the Diplock courts ensured that there was a stream of recruits for the IRA in what many were convinced was a just war against the perpetrators. Whether you agree with the analysis or not the actions above prolonged the conflict and made a resolution much more difficult to attain because of the sense of injustice that was felt.

I can only imagine the sense of injustice that is being felt by the Palestinians and as someone has already stated on here, Nations wait for the US to say it is ok to condemn the Israeli actions as a collective sense of guilt over the holocaust allows Israel to carry out its own version of the holocaust on the Palestinians as a new generation of Jihadists are being created.

Israel needs to recognise that the Palestinian people were not responsible for the holocaust. People also need to condemn what is happening in Gaza at present not because it will come back to bite the West at some stage because it invariably will, but because it is morally wrong, in the same way as the firing of rockets into Israel is wrong.

For my part much like the Dunnes store workers campaign against apartheid, I will be selective about what I put in my shopping basket. In my own small way I will register my protest. The Irish Govt should also expel the Israeli ambassador until Netanyahu stops his war crimes against the Palestinian people.

    The important word is Balance.

Balance between having a solid financial position and a competing team.

Achieving the balance is the trick, without one side being disadvantaged.

I think we are succeeding reasonably well and look to by using our own potential, by involving our younger assets, who previously languished at Lennoxtown before complete disillusion set in.

Let’s see how this season plays out.

Indeed every Israel ambassador in the civilised works should be told to pack his or her bags and beat it

If Hamas had ambassadors they should be told to beat it? They don’t

But any member nation of the UN who kills children should be told they are not a nation

72 arrests. .!!!!! Not being funny but how would someone know that at 11 o’clock at night ?

As I said, in the half hour before that, the long boisterous queues were eventually let thru the barriers at the station and despite a strong Police presence there was no trouble then.

My friend who is the administrator of Legia supporters website and his mate asked me to help them with cheap sleep on the day of the game in Edinburgh. They will be there with Legia supporters taking the pictures, writing about Celtik, atmosphere and about the game. If anyone can help, me and two guys would be very happy. This website is doing good job before the game in Warsaw.

Peter Lawwell joined Celtic in about 2003 I think, looking around Celtic Park today I think he’s doing an ok job. This year is going to be about Ronny bedding his team in, so we could be in for a few bumps along the way. I’ve bought into that and looking forward to the season….
