  1. Celtic in Europe under NL were a negative, cautious team who relied on counter attacking and set pieces to get their goals. Our defence was not embarrassed (Barca away and maybe Milan home apart) in all the games we played over the last two seasons because they were given massive protection by a deep lying hard working midfield.

To then ask what is basically the same players to change to a more expansive, attacking, high tempo, pressing game and expect to remain as solid at the back is never going to work. The players are not good enough to play the way the manager wants them to. The manager needs to play in a way to suit the players he has or there needs to be massive changes in personnel very quickly.

Didn’t expect to reach CL group stages this season but expect a good run in EL. Something needs to change very quickly or we won’t even have that.

    Who are u ya mug.

Our club is on a downward spiral….. And I for one refuse to accept that. It’s an open platform and we’re entitled to vent an opinion….. You’ve obviously got ur heid buried where the sun don’t shine.. Deluded!

  3. Gary67. It’s just what I expected. T say I am happy would of course be bolloks. Never felt so angry or powerless.

  4. Are players scared cos they could be next out the door……last two years the tic were a decent outfit….not great but very good on their day…

What I was hoping for was a wee tweak here or there …..a couple of good solid professionals ….

Tonight when I saw the team my heart sank like a stone……I can’t get pukki ….I can’t get johannson. ….and I certainly can’t get Berget !!

My plea would be don’t rip the team to shreds…………just so so pissed off!!

    Firstly, Zbyszek, sincere congatulations

Nerves are raw, this isn’t right for Celtic Football Club

I’m probably gonnie get shot down for this, but it’s clear that Celtic need to take risks to try and compete in this – frankly corrupt – market. That applies to managers we get in, as well as players. RD’s appointment suggests a complete change in approach – some might say it’s because he’s cheap; I’m a mug, I believe it’s because the only competitive advantage we can have, is to get somebody who can make decent players work together to make a team that’s better than the individuals.Because the best individuals are out of our reach.

It’s a huge risk – we’ve seen the downside tonight. This won’t help, but I said to the bruv yesterday that I didn’t think we would make the CL this year. I don’t say that because I’m a smart arse, but because the changes required would be so significant as to weaken the team initially.

This is going to take months, I’ll be surprised if we see any significant improvement by Christmas. And… it might not work. Who else we gonnie get, and how is he gonnie manage cheap players to the CL?

    CQN meltdown.

A shambolic display almost certainly puts Celtic out of the CL, and that was no Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, or St.Johnstone.. The team selection and format stops at Ronny, and not the invisible untouchables.

Celtic were ripped to shreads time and again in the second half by a superb short passing, young Legia side, in as an embarrassingly one sided game, your’e likely to see, in qualifying game.

We played all the Get of Jail free cards and avoided a six, or worse.

Good for Ronny Deila he doesn’t do NFL selections and left out first picks, and he’s made his bed. McGregor justifiably walks into the side, and Ronny clearly doesn’t like some of his squad, but playing right sided players on the left, there has to be an explanation it’s so basic.

Over to you Peter, because if Deila is a coach and smart, he’ll point to you, everybody else will, and what’s the point of another Pot 4 mauling anyway?

  8. A lot of hysteria re the Board and underinvestment. The truth is we have significantly more resources, spend much more on playing squad and on paper better players. This points to the manager and how he has deployed resources and tactical set up.

This is not to say Ronnie out, but for me that is why we lost, not the Board. The key questions should be:

Are we getting value from squad?

    Are tactics reflecting team strengths?

Is squad the right balance so it can cope with Europe and games like this and SPL?

The Board had provided more than enough resources for us to have a squad to not get embarrassed by Legia. They are responsible for selecting manager however, as well as having assurances from manager the squad has the make up for handling this type of tie.

Why are players constantly played out of position, as happened with Lennon, based on their perceived good attitude….Charlie Mulgrew….Lustig….Matthews….too often shifted about.

The squad needs more balance, players played in right positions and bought for where we are weak.

  9. Burnley78…

    Forster

    Lustig, Ambrose, van Dijk, Izaguirre

    Biton, Commons, Kayal, Johansen

    Griffiths, Stokes

…surely would have been a better, more stable line-up, more familiar with those around each of them. No signings needed, just experience and familiarity!

Stokes & Griffiths scored 13 goals between them in our final 9 games of last season, yet both were on the bench tonight, and we lined up without a single out-and-out striker!

  10. Previous poster got it right. Why weren’t we playing our strongest team in the friendlies? Get them used to the manager, his tactics, his way of playing?

With these games coming so early in the season we always run the risk of getting caught completely cold.

This has the feel of Artmedia, or Utrecht… just a hammering by a team who will achieve nothing in Europe this season.

Pressure really is on PL now. The patience of the fans, who have seen Hooper, Wanyama, Ledley, Samaras, all exit, is wearing thin.

Wasn’t able to see the game, don’t tell me we have another manager wanting to play Mulgrew in midfield in Europe? Looks that way looking at the team. Couples with two goal scorers on the bench and a total newby straight in the team… Not good.

  14. Seriously…..Celtic squad(not club)…Equivalent team in England?

    Above Walsall but below Wolves?

  15. I am obviously not as passionate as many on here because I am not angry at all.

We started off well then began to make crucial mistakes. Of course the result saddened and shocked me but the reaction, the spoiled child reaction, of many on here has brought a few smiles to my face. 3-0 next week is not a ridiculous dream but two factors do make it much more difficult:

    a) The absence of Celtic Park;

    b) The absence of Scott Brown.

Nevertheless, I`ll be there and so will many thousands of Celtic supporters who have not given in yet.

Let’s have the serious debate after next week…but was surprised at Jo zinger starting tonight

  19. Just in from watching the game. Will read back comments after I post this.

I’m a happy clapper, but even I feel downhearted after that. The Celtic TV stream froze just before their second goal. At that time it looked a certainty. But when I saw the replay I thought Efe had been fouled. Still 2-1 was ok.

Celtic TV froze again and didn’t see the sending off. Have now seen the replay and their is nothing more to say. Red it is.

Now, here comes the crucial mistake. Why did we think we were good enough with 10 men to get more out of the game than a 2-1 defeat ? And the re-shuffle of the defence wasn’t what I would have done.

I would have moved Lustig to centre back, Izzy on at left back and Matthews to right back. Legia were pacey up front and Charlie was going to be exposed.

Two penalty misses and two point blank saves from Forster leaves us with a feint, maybe futile hope of a 3-0 win at home.

Realistically it’s Europa League time for us. And that may just be a good thing.

  20. We are in the middle of trying to sell players right left and centre then expect them to get us into the Worlds premier competition.

Who will be first out the door

    Ambrose – scapegoat

Forster – our one true star

    Van Dijk –

    an unhappy Izzy? or Stokes?

    All of the above?

    Hopefully it will be Lawwell.

Hate being negative but I didn’t give us Ronny Delia.

Going to Murrayfield next week like anyone who calls themselves a supporter. The players need our support.

  21. The defence? An Omnishambles.

Fraser will go now. Unfortunately, there’s no risk of anyone wanting Olivier Tebily no.2 aka Efe. Virgil played like his puppet namesake.

As usual, a complete failure to waken up to the task in hand. Its early season but that’s just a fact of life these well remunerated guys should be able to deal with. The warning signs were there last year as we squeezed into the CL proper. They were there in Iceland and at Murrayfield.

Some up to speed no nonsense defenders please !

On a positive note, if we don’t qualify, we’ll be saved from some proper thumpings.

  22. The manager I think was naive tonight. Can’t believe he started with Bergen and a right back at left back but those players are mostly internationals and they couldn’t trap it, pass it and worst of all could/would not put a tackle in.

Where the fault does not lie is with Celtic fans. We all have opinions and there are posters on here who have taken pelters because they warned us this was coming. I doubt they take any joy from what they’ve just witnessed. Thre’s no point in calling them huns just because you don’t like what they say. Anyway, I’ll still be there next week but doubt this tie can be saved.

SFTB unless we as a support face the fact our board are destroying us as a football club and saving up for some reason and unless we act upon it we are to blame.

  24. Mr Z, enjoy your night, better team won although I thought the ref was a bit of a homer. :-)

Masty if still on, well said, you too Doc.

It’s as if having a positive outlook about your club is to blame for the way that your players didn’t play, your manager was a bit green and we didn’t have a marquee signing is somehow your fault makes me laugh.

But as Kev & Neg say- it’s our fault :-)

Next week I will support my team and wish them well. I won’t call Neganon & Kev blinkered assholes as that would be shortsighted.

We have shrunk to fit our situation…and it shows, tough to take but there will be NO big oil tycoons or Arabs stepping in at this time(or the near future) as their egos don’t get massaged unless they in EPL, innit?

  25. Captain Beefheart on

Plenty of players would join us. Good ones. Of course we should have bought them prior to this evening.
