Leigh, Efe, Mikael, Dedryk and Jozo

I got my wish last night, that Leigh Griffiths would reach the 40 goal mark for the season, and what a great goal it was too, memories of Love St ’86. Also delighted Leigh was aware-enough to mimic Henrik’s ” five zero” gesticulation when he reached 50 in 2001.

40 goals for Celtic in a season is a very rare achievement, as Paul John Dykes pointed out this morning, it’s now only been done 13 times in 128 years.  Jimmy McGrory (four times, three in a row) and Henrik Larsson (three times, two in a row), are the only two who have achieved this more than once in their Celtic careers, so Leigh knows what he needs to do next season to get a really special place in the history books.

As for the other pertinent points from last night’s game in Perth, I can cut Stefan Johansen some slack. McDiarmid Park was a farmer’s field not so long ago, and St Johnstone’s first goal looked like it came as a result of a plough intervention.

Efe Ambrose is another story. Last night’s decision to challenge (Logan Bailly) for a ball inside his own six-yard box was inexplicable but consistent with his general awareness this season. When the new manager is in place, someone inside Lennoxtown needs to find the earliest possible moment to sit him down and play the Efe highlights video.

We have a good central defender in Erik Sviatchenko (club captain in the making), and one who could become so in Jozo Simunovic. If Jozo gets himself fit for July we should be well-placed for the qualifiers, but those two aside, we are struggling in central defence.

Out of contract Charlie Mulgrew is in the latter stages of his career, but can be trusted to do a job without causing unnecessary alarm every week. Mikael Lustig’s days as a rampaging full back may be limited by his persistent hip issues, so playing as auxiliary central defender, as he often does for Sweden, works on paper.

I’d be far from confident facing Champions League qualifiers with Efe or Dedryk Boyata, who could still makes Belgium’s Euro’s squad, but if Jozo’s fit, signing a right back, with Mikael covering central defence, feels like an appropriate use of resources.

When it comes to Celtic,I want everyone involved to succeed.

I know some players over the years have been so rank that they never had a hope in hell-but what would you have done if the chance came up?

Even then,I only criticised their signing, not so much their displays.

Others, much better, who didn’t perform? Aye,they would be shredded in the pub afterwards.

Managers? Playthings of the board. Always have been. Even Jock. He finally wrested control from the supreme control freak,Sir Bob. Only because Sir Bob for all his faults always acted for the best of Celtic.

Up till Jock,he had never found a better way of doing it. With Jock,he did.

As soon as White came in,Jock knew it was one mistake and you’re out the door. Know yer place.

Give us a level playing field and everything will be hunky dory in Timland, the hun, the sfa et can cheat till their sectarian hearts content and it will make no difference cos we will win on the park.

Now when I actually think about this, it is a problem, and I do believe that the suits also see it as a problem.

We NEED competition, the past four years have shown that, not that I want the huns as our competition but the suits do, I would rather it came from the likes of the sheep or Hearts and the like, but unless we get to their level and we are not that far away, the challenge will come from the present version of the hun with the assistance of the sfa and their referees, and the suits have no intention of challenging the status quo, when you think about it, why would they.

Back of the bus for us and know our place in scottish society.

Why do you keep telling supporters (customers) they can only register their disapproval in the way that you tell them they must do? For the past few weeks all I seem to remember from your comments is that you’ve pestered certain people on here, continually telling them they can only make their feelings known in a certain way, your way. You’ve got to accept that not everyone behaves the same.

Carlton Cole was on trial for a month before getting a deal. Ronny must have had input there?

It isn’t as simple as ‘it’s Ronny’s, Neils or PL’s fault.’

The problem is that the recruitment model was going wrong prior to Ronny, in my opinion. Most clubs suffer from this. Look at the centre halfs at Man City for example. How do Southampton consistently seem to get things right with their development players, recruitment and coaches?

It seems to be the structure of the football department at a club and the personnel in the structure.

It might just be a case of clear lines of responsibility and with the passage of time PL’s role has become too big. In Ronny unfortunately we asked too much of him and he became a bit of a ‘jack of all trades.’ Hopefully he can get back to a more suitable role.

With the expectations of the support, the limited market we operate in and the competition for players it might just be that we’ve become too clever for our own good.

Celtic have a wide global audience and we need to be looking at revenue from these kind of streams (no pun intended) and expanding the remit of Celtic TV.

Of course the primary place for a better expenditure program is on the pitch but we should not be trailing behind anyone with this type of innovaton.

  16. Traditionalist88

We all started watching Celtic play in a sport.

Competing next year against a 4 year old club, which will be billed as going for its 55th title makes it a farce, as much of a “sport” as WWE.

In fact, it’s worse, as at least they call themselves entertainment. A bit of truth, while our league will be based on The Big Lie.

If the club could at least acknowledge this, we might feel more comfortable with the situation. They have the backing of several courts, counsel who spoke of Charles Green acquiring the assets of the former club, and Law Lords who have dismissed the notion of the club being somehow a separate entity from the company which runs it.

Now this week we have the UEFA coefficient information, which does not give Sevco the coefficient it would have were it the same club.

Rangers walked away from tens of millions of debt to 276 creditors by not being Rangers anymore.

Do Sevco have to pay these creditors?

No, so they can’t be Rangers.

Resisting the same club nonsense and exposing the continuity myth for what it is, should be priority number one for the club.

Who wants to pay to watch a farce, set in an Orwellian narrative?

Especially if you’ve already paid good money to watch a rigged league before.

At least then we had ignorance as an excuse.

    Hail Hail!

BMCUWP I am no fan of PL but think we have been duped into hating our own. The beanies will be beanies. I happen to think we have Celtic supporting beanies but they will still do their job. The board will weigh up public sentiment and cut loose a manager or bring on a new one, consumer power is always going to be a factor and this has undoubtedly been a factor in the departure of Ronny. So what happens next is in the domain of the custodians AND customers or supporters as we like to think of ourselves.

If we support the establishment attack on our next coach maybe the problem will not be just the beanies but the consumers demand for deserving better ….you know who called for that.

    ============

Thats a viewpoint some would share, but the chances that we will end up with another unknown, ‘project’ manager are very small, imo.

I think it will be a big name, a big personality and someone who will insist on full control be it any of the current favourites. That can only be a good thing.

The Celtic job is a challenging one. Is that a problem?! Rafa Benitez took on a challenge at Newcastle, and failed. They’ll be back.

Cliche but so much can change in football in a few short months. Recall the lowest ebb we have been at in recent times, losing 1-3 at home to Caley. Now we have had a number of low points since but we have bounced back each and every time.

We have different challenges than the likes of Newcastle face and we will face them with a change of manager and outlook. Bring it on.

Any calls for a boycott/witholding of ST monies are absolutely absurd, particularly given how closely trusted posters on here have been working with the club in recent times.

The likes of BRTH and Canamalar would not be backwards about coming forwards if Celtic were fobbing them off here.

As I say, some of the important issues with Res 12 HAD to come from shareholders. Some have wrongly taken this to mean that Celtic have not been playing ball.

People with an agenda will see what they want to see.

Support the team because until we see a workable, viable alternative that will deliver results and change our club for the better we are playing with fire by calling for a boycott.

The most telling part of your post above is that you have listened to this view of mine ‘for the last few weeks.’ We have been reading the complaints of NegAnon etc for well over a year. They raise a number of good points, but to what end? They are effectively invisible. At what point do they change strategy? Or never mind change strategy, even consider another strategy?

They totally suck the life out of the blog.

We have a situation whereby some Celtic fans feel they cannot attend CP. That is clearly a problem? They don’t have to protest how I think they should of course, but any alternative couldn’t be less effective.

They also do not trust those posters on here who have been working with the club closely.

If they are serious and have the courage of their convictions, great – get to the ground and give the club something visible and quantifiable.

Peter Lawwell has met with numerous supporters with similiar concerns of late and provided reassurances, some of whom have said so on here.

  30. The Ghood will prevail on

No managerial appointment is risk-free, but right now Celtic need as low-risk an option as possible. Roy Keane is NOT that option. Of course it MIGHT work out, but I struggle to see him building long-term stability at the club. As a player he was a winner and a perfectionist, but he has demonstrated volatility and his managerial record is patchy. I can envisage him getting a short to medium-term bounce, then something going wrong, perhaps a league challenge going bust. The Ronnie gamble didn’t pay off, the fans are disillusioned and we have to get this appointment right or I fear we will suffer long-term damage as a club. If there was a silver lining to the horrible cup semi-final defeat it was to demonstrate to everyone what a critical juncture we are at in our history. If we go for Keane then I worry about the competence of our footballing department, and the manner in which managers are obtained. We are Celtic; we would not be not lucky to have Keane, he would be incredibly lucky to have us.

All we need is a competent, experienced manager to bring the structural advantage we currently enjoy over every other club in Scotland to bear, and hopefully set us on a course towards 10-in-a-row. If we get Keane then arguably half a dozen other Scottish Premiership clubs would have more competent managers than us. Brendan Rodgers would be my preference. The appointment of him or someone of a similar stature would inspire the fans, put bums on seats, bring much needed revenue into the club, and restore a bit of trust and unity.

    Please don’t make it Keane.
