Lennon luxury of sharpening next week

453

These games all seem simple the morning after they are completed, but that only happens if the hard work is out on.

Sarajevo did enough to take the lead last night, lesser teams than Celtic would have stuttered, but that proved to be what the instigator needed.

Neil Lennon now has the luxury of using next week’s home leg to sharpen fitness where necessary, and perhaps to give one or two their first Celtic Park experience.

We knew they would do everything in their power to stop the 9 or 10, well at least the support did. I would’ve hoped that when the discussions for Neil to get the job took place these things would’ve been discussed, I have no knowledge if they did. As for plod and the SMSM (predictive text changes SMSM to anal 😂) they’re all on board too

  3. Adam Matthews, your having a laugh.

We actually need 2 right backs, not one, as Ralston is obviously not fancied

Word of Smith opting for Stoke rather than Celtic.

Surely to …. we can get a decent RB and I don’t mean guys like O’Donnell or Matthews (cue Trad 88 asking for names, which I already supplied on a previous topic ) 😉

The lad George Balstock at Sheffield Utd, it would seem is next on the list.

I remain convinced there is better value for money out with the English market.

Revisit the Austrian League, scout the Serbian league, Croatia, Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland.

    Exactly.

The Romanian u21 team reached the semis of the european u21 championship this summer. They played very well in all their games and beat a very good English team. Their right back Christian Manea is out of contract next summer. He also has 8 caps for the senior national team and 1 goal. I’m sure he would be available for under 4m. That is one option.

    Robert Gumny – option 2.

Emanuel Aiwu – An 18 year old who broke into the Admira Wacker team last season. Played 22 games and scored 3 goals in Austrian top flight. There’s another option.

Pablo Diaz – 24 year old Chilean with 17 caps for the national team. Plays for Ahli who bought him for 2.3m last summer.

As you said there must be lots of options out there.

I like the Flo acronym. I hope it catches on. It is gentle but makes the point strongly. I would change the `officiating` to `officials`as the latter, for me, lets us know that this is a constant factor.

  8. Can I just add that I am not as bothered re transfers in as many seem to be. My logic is simple: The kind of player (s) we can attract will not make much of a difference to out CL aspirations and those we already have are good enough to achieve main objective. The Scottish Premier League.

Well, they are all good enough except PotY, James Forrest :-)

  9. HOT SMOKED @ 11:02 AM,

Well I’m with you on the window, maybe coming from a different prrspective though.

The main thing of course is the situation with our “high value” players

With some business already done in terms of players in, the fact is the transfers out; KT, Rogic, N’tcham etc looks a bit sticky.

The business done thus far needed to be done whatever. The only “must have” now is a right back.

Unless we move some “high value” out, my guess our business is pretty much done and we go with what we have.

What I’m hoping, if we don’t sell and get quality in, we avoid last minute…

We have known for months that 3 right backs would be leaving.

Leaving only Tony Ralston, who is not being trusted.

This could cause us a place in C. L.

I am trying to remain calm but i feel a rant coming on soon.

  17. A video shows Roger Federer signing tennis balls/programmes etc. yesterday after his win over Nishokori. In the crowd amongst many other people, is an “overeager” Celtic fan top who does not get his memorabilia signed just like many others.

The Daily Record has managed to contrive this headline and list it as a “Celtic Story”

“Roger Federer gives Celtic fan the swerve as Hoops supporter suffers Wimbledon fault”

  18. I‘ll judge my club when the window closes not whilst it’s just opened and having previously left ourselves wide open to the Brendan Rodgers’ of this world.

There is no delay in spending money, we’ve spent plenty in ten days with plenty in store. The next game is a fitness exercise, and Sarajevo are all but eliminated.

Despite the less than inspirational SMSM fuelled rumours, I’m confident we’ll have signed at least another three quality players

Reading the same posters on here self combust, over and over again, anytime Celtic play, do or say anything, sucks the oxygen out of the Blog.

It isn’t only Sevco fans the SMSM have the power of delusion over . There’s many a gullible Tim who believes their guff.

  20. No disrespect to Stephen O’Donnell but I don’t think he’s much better than Tony Ralston who is still to realize his potential. Don’t see the value in that particular signing. Have to leave it there due to a lack of O2…..:)

We need one this window but it needs to be right.

  23. BSR @ 12:49 PM,

Personally I think Brendan Rodgers had a very good strategy, which was right for the Club.

It didn’t chime with the Boards aspirations though. We seemed to be running two conflicting strategies last year. Inevitably it was a disaster.

Whether BR thought he was sanctioned to follow his strategy and the Board went the other way. Or he went out on a limb as a maverick is a debate for another day.

What is clear, as we seem to have in this window, is the fact the football department and Board must be in sync.

My feelings about last summer if BR had got his four players in, including OE and sold Armstrong and Boyata we’d have been in a great position as far as squad build, have an awesome first team and have players valued at well over €150M.

The value of our squad, including quality individuals has plummeted.

Still, we have set our sights lower improved our communications and look to be on the right track this window.

    Hail Hail

  24. How long has the consensus been evident among the support that we need a right back to first alleviate the strain on PC Lustig by giving him a well earned rest and eventually take over from him?

    One, two, three seasons ago?

Why has our season started with PC Lustig gone and no replacement signed??

Ps before injuries took their toll, PC Lustig was our best defender imo. Top player who gave us some great service and a hun skelper to boot. I liked him a lot.

Will be my last post today due to oxygen deprivation …:)

  26. CHAIRBHOY on 11TH JULY 2019 1:21 PM

The conflict last year was between Brendan Rodgers’ personal ambition and the board who obviously are looking out for the clubs interest. The more power BR had over recruitment the worse it got.

  27. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ TIMALOY29 on 11TH JULY 2019 1:45 PM

That’s unlikely. Neil has spent more in one window that BR did at his time in the club (you could argue that the window we signed Edouard and the loan for Benkovic may have cost more, but it would be fractional; plus that represented BR’s largest spend in a window- all other summer windows were circa £6m and below) and Neil isn’t (we all hope) finished yet.

  28. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

Previous comment should read “than BR did in any one window during his time at the club…”

I’m not surprised you think Brendan Rodgers has a good signing policy, in general your posts are as pro Brendan as CQN gets.👌

To say his ‘actual signings’ rather than policy were at least very debatable, is fairer IMO.

The argument immediately becomes more muddied when the age old “ they weren’t his signings anyway “ breaks out on CQN.

His transfer ‘signings’ with a very different budget, and definitely not attributable to Peter of Heated Drivesville were also arguably, his Achilles heel on Merseyside see Anfield Quick News.
