Lennon luxury of sharpening next week

453

These games all seem simple the morning after they are completed, but that only happens if the hard work is out on.

Sarajevo did enough to take the lead last night, lesser teams than Celtic would have stuttered, but that proved to be what the instigator needed.

Neil Lennon now has the luxury of using next week’s home leg to sharpen fitness where necessary, and perhaps to give one or two their first Celtic Park experience.

That’s unlikely. Neil has spent more in one window that BR did at his time in the club (you could argue that the window we signed Edouard and the loan for Benkovic may have cost more, but it would be fractional; plus that represented BR’s largest spend in a window- all other summer windows were circa £6m and below) and Neil isn’t (we all hope) finished yet.

    ________

Do you really think all those loan signings come in for nothing? We have to pay large wages and loan fees to bring them in.

I’d say you are being selective.

Kouassi, N’Cham & Sinclair were all signed for significant fees.

I wonder if wee Jinky would have suffered the same type of moaning if playing in the

present season as JF is been Lambasted now.

I was lucky enough to see Jinky play through the whole of his career at Celtic And in my opinion he was the most entertaining player I have ever seen in a Celtic Jersey, But jinky could have bad days as well, this is normal with most players and seemingly the better players were noticeably the bigger offenders, you just accepted that they were having a bad game, now you get lambasted if you have a bad day at the office.

I hope to God that the Players don’t read this blog, but I think a few will ,and no doubt they will open up to the others in the sqaud, I can’t imagine the damage it does for morale, but nobody seems to care what they say about our players.

James Forrest has bad days but who hasn’t, but Tuesday wasn’t one of them , he assisted in one goal, and he nearly always had two oppsition players ready to tackle him if he got the ball, which frees one Celtic player who won’t have any opposition player near him.

  3. Once again the Celtic support being led around by the nose by the Record. You know, that rag that no one reads.Aye right.Tommy Smith not in Stoke having a medical. In fact still in the Huddersfield training camp.

Some actually turning on the guy already, having hardly seen him play.My main concern is the fact we are, according to Lenny, still in the hunt for a CH,as we let the Huns seemingly land a very decent CH,for around 2-3 million.International,80 games in Italy.6 foot 4.Like some others have mentioned on the RB situation,we seem to be very blikered in our recruitment.I hope this guy is a dud,but his CV should have alerted us to him.

More to the point, just where are they getting the cash? This will be the 8th signing,I know mostly freebies, and the odd loan, but,if reports are true, this will be around 3.2 million spent,on transfers, and freebies require signing on fees. The annual wage bill for these extra players has to be around,minimum,5 -6million a year,to a club that will post already, shocking financial figures later in the year, without adding these on.Nothing coming in from transfers.Whats going on.

I corrected my original post. Neil has spent more (if not same)- £10m- in one window than BR did in any one window and we all expect more money to be spent.

  5. THCHWTECS,

I keep telling you,and once again the figures have been put on.BR got £30 million to spend in his time with us.

Obviously a fact you like to ignore.

Like you , I was lucky enough to watch Jinky throughout his career . He was a genius but you’re right , he could have bad days. Just as well there was no such thing as CQN then although there were moaners giving him pelters in the stands.

  8. Thanks for the comments ghuys…

I’m oft oot at the moment but I’ll certainly reply later.

I don’t believe the Board do look after the Clubs interests at heart, it’s the PLC’s interest they have at heart.

Maybe a great deal of what BR was doing was out of self interest, yet as that ambition coincided with the ambitions of the fans there was congruence there.

If you think the Board aren’t motivated by self-interest I suggest you look at the renumeration and expenses. It would be a dream job for many.

    Laters…

    Hail Hail

  9. GLENDALYSTONSILS.

I wish there were more standing areas around Celtic park,at least you could move away from the moaners,There was always one moaner in the vicinity where you were standing.

In the end I tried sitting in one of the Stands,There were moaners there too,Ended up in the North stand where it’s a lot quieter, they cheer the players, not lambasted them.

  10. Players having a bad day

Can you imagine CQN when the (later) king of kings passed to Chic Charnley ? He didn’t even have one good game to fall back on. Only player I know who never made a mistake was me. Surrounded by rubbish on the 50 pitches, although I must admit I was pretty merry & bright myself.

Yesteryear’s “Bad day at the office”, is today’s “Get rid, I’ll drive him to the airport masel”

    Hyperbole CSC

    🍀⚽️

  12. Imagine driving someone to the airport only to find out they were scared of flying, and were getting a boat instead. What a waste of time , not to mention petrol, that would be. Especially with global warming, where they encourage you not to waste fuel. It wouldn’t be a waste of petrol if you had a Diesel engine. Not that I’m condoning Diesel engines, apparently they’re worse. What’s the most expensive sandwich you’ve ever bought?

  13. Mike in Toronto on

Cant stomach all this ‘i’ll drive him to the airport” stuff that I read on here ….. not for real fans…

like the real fans at WBA… none of this fannying around driving players…. they are offering to carry the player to the airport …

  16. If we use the term “talent pool” , then with all due respect to Israel, by my estimation there are far superior talent pools to be tapped in to than Israel.

National team ranked 84… 40 places worse off than Scotland.

Their domestic league Champions, as we know are capable of some minor heart flutter. No more than that.

Regular attendees in European competition qualifiers… but never near to ever qualifying.

Belgium, Holland, Austria, Serbia, Croatia, Switzerland, Sweden, … to name a few, all represent superior talent pools. And as such, if we’re talking 2.5 / 3.5 million on a right back, would likely find what we are looking for within these leagues.

    That was decent.

Main take from it, just ask for press passes for these early euro away games

  18. I’ve seen some negative comments about JF on here and I have to say I am surprised. A few have referenced his nothing performances in the two trips to Ibrox. You could add Mickey Johnston, Odsonne Edouard and every other attacking player to that list.

We had issues at Ibrox starting from the GK onwards. We were totally unable to get comfortable on the ball and got chased off the part. Partially down to odd selections (MJ up from CalMac at LB etc)

We’ll see how NL does it. I remember some really ugly wins at Ibrox under NL.

Purely recognising that with our search for a right back, roads could lead to Israel.

If so, there are maybe better roads to tread.

Don’t think it was the ambition of any fan to have the coach walk out the door on the eve of a crucial game at Tynecastle.

Everything BR did was out of self-interest last season and he’s got everything he wanted.
