Lennon luxury of sharpening next week

453

These games all seem simple the morning after they are completed, but that only happens if the hard work is out on.

Sarajevo did enough to take the lead last night, lesser teams than Celtic would have stuttered, but that proved to be what the instigator needed.

Neil Lennon now has the luxury of using next week’s home leg to sharpen fitness where necessary, and perhaps to give one or two their first Celtic Park experience.

  1. Bitton is in the final year of his deal, like most players in that situation, he will be more committed, focused and thus more likely to hit form. It is only natural when he is playing for his livelihood. He is a good player for sure but if you want to play that deep lying midfield role you need to be able to dig in, take the ball under the most intense pressure and crucially must be able to move the ball quickly through the lines. So far, whist being an elegant and decent player he hasn’t been able to do any of the former in his time as a Celtic player, often going missing when it has mattered most. But, Neil has thrown down the gauntlet to him so we shall see how things go.

  2. Well that’s the jolly Rodgers must spent…..thank goodness we got it……now entering a lull

The fact you are having a party in one of my aul pit stops back in the day

i’ll feel i’m a part of it all.

    Happy Birthday when it comes.

Now’s the time of the year i appreciate being away from Glesgy with the

As the big Aussie said to PARK RD 67 when we were having a wee pint

of the black stuff on his visit ” Luv the Celtic, and those orange barsturts

will never march in our town ”

Moderator steps in on a handbags spat which isn’t bugging anyone else,

But a post around the same time which advocates anal rape in a ‘jocular’ fashion gets no comment

None of it in relation to Celtic or football

  5. Good morning, friends and a Big Happy Friday from a dry and fairly bright East Kilbride.

Had a wee scroll back to see what difference moderation made to Trad88’s barrage of abuse, one thing I noted was the moderators edit of his own warning singling me out, this makes it look as if the mod is being fair and saving blushes and the expected apology, oh well.

That pretty much every post Trad88 made to me contained abuse which was deleted then it follows any of my responses would be delete too with or without abuse usually without.

I see a few other snipers got their wings clipped too.

Any roadmap, the result was reasonable discussions with anyone who did not look to condescend, it also achieved the goal of highlighting the news, what people now want to do with that news is up to them,

Me I favour our previous response, take the information at face value and make as much noise as we can, we at least know it gets results.

Sitting in Manchester Airport waiting on a flight for Ponta Delgada in the Azores. Two weeks r and r with Mrs H. Looking forward to it. Flying with ole Ryanair, for the first time since I took Miss H to Barcelona for our 6-1 filleting. The year before, I thought we were gonna pull of a miracle result and get an unlikely draw until that Bassa Jordi Alba ruined things. The second game, although a chastening result, has fonder memories. Being with Miss H, kept me a bit soberer, (not sober, but soberer 😃) and it’s a great memory being in the Camp Nou with her.

Ran a kinda dear diary slot from my last visit to the Azores a few years back. Amazing place. Will do so again, if anyone is interested.

Personally I think Brendan Rodgers had a very good strategy, which was right for the Club.

I’d be interested to know what you think his strategy was

The conflict last year was between Brendan Rodgers’ personal ambition and the board who obviously are looking out for the clubs interest. The more power BR had over recruitment the worse it got.

I’m not surprised you think Brendan Rodgers has a good signing policy, in general your posts are as pro Brendan as CQN gets.👌

To say his ‘actual signings’ rather than policy were at least very debatable, is fairer IMO.

The argument immediately becomes more muddied when the age old “ they weren’t his signings anyway “ breaks out on CQN.

His transfer ‘signings’ with a very different budget, and definitely not attributable to Peter of Heated Drivesville were also arguably, his Achilles heel on Merseyside see Anfield Quick News.

    CHAIRBHOY on 11TH JULY 2019 2:51 PM

Maybe a great deal of what BR was doing was out of self interest, yet as that ambition coincided with the ambitions of the fans there was congruence there.

    ____

Don’t think it was the ambition of any fan to have the coach walk out the door on the eve of a crucial game at Tynecastle.

Everything BR did was out of self-interest last season and he’s got everything he wanted.

Now, what I believe Brendan Rodgers recruitment strategy to be, based on actions and what he said was this…

    Quality not quantity

    Core of Scottish Players

No “cheap” projects, more expensive prospects, but players that could do a job in the first team and be sold later for a much higher value.

But supplament by buy in experienced, quality first team players where necessary.

    Also…

Sustain the team/squad by developing players with the potential to a much higher level of performance

Now, that to me was a great strategy for success at Celtic Football Club and by extension Celtic PLC.

For me, there is no argument to this…

Even though only partially allowed to implement this, building on Ronny Delia’s time we have…

    Won a treble, treble

Qualified for UCL twice, just failing at the last hurdle once, while the Club was in disarray, yet still managing Europa after Christmas

    Record Turnover

    Record Profits

    Pot 3 UCL Status

Soaring Player value of in the Celtic squad to eye wateringly high levels

It was the right strategy for the football club. The Board did not agree.

If you look back to where we were, just winning the double treble in May 2018. You will see what Brendan Rodgers achieved, our results, our squad, our standing, our hunskelping – unsurpassed.

That was two years after Ronny Delia’s team got knocked out the cup by Rangers and there was civil war in the changing room

A colossal achievement in any ones (non-juaundiced) eyes.

At that stage Brendan Rodgers deserved to be supported, quite the opposite happened.

I’m not trying to promote a St Brendan figure, far from it.

But I’m not buying Big Pedro – Mother Teresea with an Abacus…

Have a great day Timland – Walk the Walk

Barcelona picking off young talent from West Brom, but its not Rekeem Harper, its 16 year old Louie Barry:

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jul/11/barcelona-sign-england-under-16-striker-louie-barry-west-brom

Theres a lot of players out there we could get for a development fee and its a market we are under utilising at present – need to take more advantage of the discrepancy in the regulations between Scotland and England. Its one of the few advantages we have vs the outrageous wages in the EPL and some Championship clubs. Committing some cash, even a couple of million, to taking a few on is an experiment that could be well worth the effort.

Would this suggest there’s a major exit on the cards or are they willing to risk everything again to stop the ten?

NEIL LENNON has confirmed Celtic are likely to get their first glimpse of their record defensive signing on Saturday at Celtic Park when the treble treble champions take on Rennes in a pre-season friendly.

There could be Parkhead bows for Luca Connell and Daniel Arzani as well if Neil Lennon feels like it’s a worthwhile exercise to bring the pair into the fold. Developmental lads like Dembele and Oko-Flex could get a run out too.

Wondering how many times this season Lenny and his family will receive knows on the door at midnight and told to move immediately for their own safety. Sean Thornton has told us they have already been warned. I predict 90% will be the night before Glasgow derbies with the first one coming up around the 1st of September.

We’ll probably wait until 6 to 8 months before any official notice when it all become a bit much for the Plc to justify continued silence.

  20. On the ongoing RB saga, I would say this…

How long has the consensus been evident among the support that we need a right back to first alleviate the strain on PC Lustig by giving him a well earned rest and eventually take over from him?

    One, two, three seasons ago?

Why has our season started with PC Lustig gone and no replacement signed??

Ps before injuries took their toll, PC Lustig was our best defender imo. Top player who gave us some great service and a hun skelper to boot. I liked him a lot. We shouldn’t have let him go with no one in to replace him imo.

BR thought that Gamboa was the guy. Then he believed Ralston was the guy. Then he gave up tried to sign a couple and ended up with Toljan on loan.

Now we are left with our current situation back with Ralston.

  23. TIMALOY29

I don’t think Gamboa had that many chances to be fair, it appeared from the outside that his face didn’t fit. Looked capable in some of the games he played.

I’m sure BR identified other RB’s we didn’t land, Castagne springs to mind.

I don’t understand how it can be so difficult for us as a club to address the need for a new RB. It’s taking far too long imo
