Lessons learned in bad times

439

Celtic are arguably better off for players for the No. 10 role than any other position.  David Turnbull is the current preferred occupant, but Ryan Christie was the man in possession before he was moved to the right, while Tom Rogic got the nod on Monday and Olivier Ntcham has played there before.  This almost certainly explains why we have seen so little of Ewan Henderson, a player who has never let us down and provided a memorable start to the second Neil Lennon era at Tynecastle two years ago.

One of the truisms in football is that you learn more from bad times than good.  This season’s big lesson was delivered during a dead rubber Europa League game, moving David Turnbull and Ismaila Soro from the stand to the pitch transformed Celtic.

Ewan is no more a right sided midfielder than David Turnbull, but his substation into the action on Monday, allowed David to move into the middle, where he created and converted the chance Celtic scored from.  Both must start against Livingston.

That’s a good question. Neil Lennon is Celtic to the core. I have always respected him but I just think he has run out of juice. He will always be a great to me. Lawell, yes just really well paid job!!! Desmond, if I as the major shareholder I would be more involved than he appears to be and I would be very worried about how much the current situation is impacting on my investment. Mind you he is loaded so maybe he isn’t bothered.

  2. What a car crash of an interview reminded me of Epstein’s mate — self centred, arrogant, out of touch and not an ounce of decency in his body.

How did this person ended up as Celtic CEO and how is he still there. It does not say much for Desmonds judgement.

This guy has destroyed Celtic and would do it again if he had the chance in order to satisfy his greed.

It’s amazing Paul67 does not come clean ; he could make him toast and do all Celtic fans a favour but he is another Lawwell puppet.

  3. Awa oot with the dug.

Keep posting Celtic people, if we all agreed with each other it would be a boring world.

Peter starts of with a half arsed , excuse ridden apology for Dubai and ends with a rallying call to the fans, giving the impression that this is the real nub of his message .

IMO ‘the Celtic issues’ are higher up than Peter Lawwell and a question of ownership.

We need an entirely new operating ‘strategy’ dealing with football administration, SMSM and as I’ve posted here and elsewhere recruitment, where the random punt now up to £5M per scull ran out of luck, during the first lock down.

Our new, city rivals soft loaned their way through the same dodgy markets and sometimes even targets as us, and seem to have come up trumps if the league table and last three games is anything to go by.Whether a different CEO could have prevented that is another matter, but a different strategy might have.

Water under the bridge as I said, but worth pointing out, Neil Lennon won a very good Europa group with games to spare, its not all about him IMO, more a sequence of events, where he was never the populist choice, or a root cause, of the failed Celtic desire, to keep on winning a league indefinately with the same process as before.

  6. A banal statement. Nothing much of nothing. No biggie. No facts changed.

Long haul job here but more direct supporter involvement is the task. The task and the movement of achieving that in itself will yield results so doing it, getting involved in the process of becoming string enough to enact change creates change in and of itself.

No protest or progress is ever wasted.

  7. Have not been on for a while but totally disgusted the way the season has panned out. LAWWELL should go now and probably Lennon and Kennedy and management team aswell. Need a fresh start

We have the ability to enact change – don’t buy the products, don’t renew our season tickets.

Both parents in law (in their mid 80’s) have had them.

gave them a new lease of life, recovery took time but both say it was the best decision they ever made.

  12. Prestonpans Bhoys,

It was pretty clear that Lawwell was prepped on the questions ( which he probably wrote himself).

This covid lockdown is a godsend to him as he escapes the wrath of the fans he has cheated. The so called manager who returned 2 stone overweight in the summer with a sullen mood is also hiding at home. It would be good to hear him explain his decision making this season and why it has went wrong —- if he can remember.

It’s amazing these 2 serial failures are in situ ; what about the wee whiskey shop non entity Bankier getting the views of his Board —- the last few times I have seen the board it is away from Celtic Park where the same guys look blootered from a heavy lunch. Bankier has failed in his role from day 1 and needs to be removed as well. His absence will not even register —- an oxygen thief.

What an assemble of non performers milking it for what they can get. Wish we could put them all in quarantine for good.

  13. Why do people argue with Zombies on twitter? Every fact is met with a version of events that has never been near any kind of truth.

They didn’t get liquidated. They aren’t a new club. They were relegated. They didn’t vote to end the season last year. They won the tax case. EBTs aren’t illegal. They didn’t field ineligible players.

They believe it all. Totally fact resistant species the Zombies so they are.

Why do people waste their time with them?

From your earlier mention of the Neil Young written, CSNY recorded protest ‘Ohio’ about the shooting and killing of students at Kent State University on May 4 1970. I didn’t know it at the time but the late Martin Short, the Television journalist of Granada’s ‘This week’ and ‘World in Action’, on investigating the atrocity by the Ohio State National Guard discovered that most of the Guard had joined up to avoid the Draft for Vietnam. Killing and maiming those who were protesting against that very war and the bombing of Cambodia.

Spot on . I read most of James Forrest’s blogs but am constantly amazed at the ‘debate’ between Celtic fan comments and those of Sevconians . I stopped reading or indeed contributing to the comments section as soon as these jokers appeared . They are non-educable to a man so why try?

  18. My friends in Celtic,

I just wonder if Lennon, Lawwell & Desmond are oblivious to the damage they are doing to their own reputations? As stated so eloquently by Sutton 1888….

Ok.take those 3 out of the equation in our history since 94(all decisions therein)and you can deal in a real what if??

I’d wager that if the vast majority of those who were appalled, disgusted etc at the trip had the time and money to go to Dubai over Xmas, they would have gone.

Hot Smoked – you posted on here recently that the entire Covid situation likely isn’t helping in terms of many of us dealing with football bad news and adversity.

I can only speak for myself in saying that a bit of Celtic success always does wonders for my personal morale. And it would be have been especially welcome at this time.”

Same here . Conversely, of course,`a bit of Celtic failure` has just the opposite affect and is especially unwelcome at this time.

You’re the one with the mental posts. You’re trying to defend the Dubai trip. 90 % of the support were totally against it, yet your in the 10% ever wondered why that is?”

I don`t know where those figures come from but my experiences in life have led me to believe that in a 90% /10% split, the 90% are most often wrong.

    Goodnight one and all.
