Lions Roar, the last giant standing, CQN Mag is out!

824

Issue 16 of CQN Magazine is out today and (in my never humble opinion) is our best yet.  We are right up to date, with coverage of the Scottish Cup final.  Phil Mac Giolla Bhain gives historical perspective on Celtic’s position as the last apex in the game.

You’ve ready plenty of great stories of how people got their tickets Seville and we bring you a very Celtic story on how one man got his.  Did you notice we’ve mentioned Willie Wallace a bit recently?  Some of the reasons why are covered by two of Scotland’s best writers, Brogan Hogan and Archie MacPherson, excerpts of their contributions to Heart of a Lion are here for you.

There are lots more great articles….. including our cover theme, The Lions Roar Again Event.  The remaining Lisbon Lions are back at Celtic Park for a Q&A and Lisbon film show, in aid of 1254125.  The first event was one of those special Celtic occasions, if you missed it, make sure you get along this time.

Opportunities like this don’t come along often.  Book your tickets for the event here, bring the family.

DON’T TRY TO READ THE MAGAZINE FROM THE GRAPHC BELOW, that is just a teaser.  For a proper read, go here.  Use the navigation buttons at the bottom to flick through pages or zoom in.

olconians wore blue and white hoops between 1879 and 1893.

Morton have mainly worn blue and white hoops since they were founded in 1874

Kilmarnock wore blue and white hoops for nearly every season between 1908 to 1963, and again from 1977 to 1989.

David Hay had the early 70’s huns in his pocket for 3 years before he left. What a loss when he went. I don’t blame him. Look at the numpties who ran the club then.

Macari was a good striker but we replaced him and he wasn’t overly missed.

I was sad to see Davie Hay go he was class, but you are correct he left because of the pay structure. In those days the players were paid a basic wage which was supplemented by win bonuses, so if you we’re out of the team due to injury you lived off the not-so-great basic pay.

*The irony here is that the board actually agree to Davie’s claim for full greengages during times of injury for all 1st team squad but seemingly the Big Mhan had already taken the cream puff with him and sold him to Chelsea.

As for KD there was never a bidding war for his services as Jock called up Bob Paisley to tell him he was available, Paisley must have thought he had died and went tae Heaven as after selling Kevin Keegan, an inferior player tae KD, for 500 grand he then purchased Kenny for 440 grand, I can still remember the gutted feeling I had 3,500 miles away when I read it on a sports channel.

Skip Tae Ma Loo, a very good Celt who showed up every game he was one of the first Quality Street Gang tae make the breakthrough, only George Connelly and Davie Hay preceded him.

His replacement of Wispy in the Cup Final replay in which he scored the opener IMHO signalled the end of Willie’s Celtic career.

Prior tae signing for manure he was also interviewed by Bill Shankly after a fee had been agreed with the Tic, the local paper had the headline Liverpool Lou already for printing when the Shanks announced he widnae be signing for them, “he knows where he wants to go” or something like that Bill said.

He then signed for manure where it had been rumoured he had been tapped up by Tommy Docherty who had given him his 1st cap while Scotland manager.

So there you go 3 very good Celtic players, 3 former managers but only 1 with any credibility.

The way in which the offences under sections 1 and 6 are being dealt with is primarily an operational matter for the police, but the Government will publish this month the first annual statistics and analysis of the offences committed under the Act over the first year of its operation

Dalglish probably couldn’t do much more than he did when he played for Celtic,he had to move to take himself to the next level.Macari was only interested in No 1,as BT said earlier he gets wheeled out by talkpish and Sky anytime a big Celtic story is on the go.He couldn’t name 4 current Celtic players.

  8. Tontine tim- Young uns will find I hard to believe that not long after Macari went to Man U they were relegated to the 2nd division, the very same club that went on to dominate English football for the last 25 years.

Their support during the ’70s was also synonymous with football hooliganism, scarves round the wrists and bovver boots. No 75000 crowds and prawn sandwiches in them days, seem to recall there was total mayhem after Denis Law and City put them down.

They have since went from the pariahs of the English game to the fashionable must have.

    Hope for the Huns yet.

  9. Lionroars67,

Interesting how they phrase some of their answers 54 were prosecuted implies they went to court, when in fact everyone who plead not guilty in court were found not guilty.

Dalglish undoubtedly a playing legend but let’s not have the Mother Teresa stuff about him

Various authors have recorded he essentially had to be begged not to leave in the summer of 1976 after Mr Stein’s accident.

By my reckoning he gave us 4 seasons 1971-5 in good grace

His final two seasons were given under sufferance and I still maintain the team he left could have kicked on with his continued involvement

1976-7 season, Craig, Dalglish & Glavin scored 83 league goals between them. The following year the other two combined for under 20.

Yes he bettered himself but essentially ripped the heart out our club in the process.

His subsequent conduct and attitudes are such I have no respect for him as a man.

  11. I haven’t seen any posts from Miki67 for some time. Just wondering does any poster know him in real life and is he O.K. If you are lurking Miki67 just let us know you are O.K.

squire danaher- The team was on the way down before Dalglish left IMO,a wee bit much to blame a player who had outgrown Scottish football, try the Kellys and the Whites for ripping the heart from a team.

Im afraid the SNP hierarchy are pretending that everything with the OB bill is OK, none more so than the minister responsible, Roseanna Cunningham! who has managed to disappear up her Strathearn rose on this issue and is not talking in public about it, i thought given her background she would be open minded and honestly review it, seems saving face for the party is more important, politicians ?

Estorilbhoy, you have mail. A little more info about your Hampden Roar dram. It’s getting very intriguing.

  18. Lionroars67,

Compromises are the road to corruption, as my auld da says any Catholic that votes or advocates voting for the SNP wants their head looked at.

  19. What is going on at East Fife???
