Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

5K may not be a huge sum but IMO it is throwing your money away.

As I said the highest court in the land holds no sway with the cabal that run the game, if they refuse point blank, and they are refusing to accept the decision of the SC, what the ef do you think they will say to a fan driven review ?

Only the clubs can do this, the fans can force the clubs, but only the clubs can do it.

  3. STARRY PLOUGH @ 10:23 PM,

Yes, they think they can pull the wool over our eyes with a bit of legalese – most folk know Lawyers have Briefs and are Instructed.

Depending on what you are asking/seeking/requesting the advice will vary accordingly.

From the SFA Statement the advice seemed to amount to how the Board, Members and Employees could be protected from any illicit or negligent actions or decisions they took over this Debacle.

That’s why Stewart Regan described the Legal situation as “Complex”.

Let’s face it, if the wanted advice on how to set up a Review of the LNS Commission’s findings in the light of further evidence and the SC’S decision on EBTs it’s straight forward.

If you want advice that does the above but protects any transgressions when bending and breaking the rules, regulations and codes to create the 5WA.

And protects the architects of the resultant rigged LNS Commission.

Then of course, that’s a lot more Complex and probably why their Counsel advised against a Review.

Well I’m hoping that Celtic PLC have been straight about keeping their powder dry:) and were always working in good Faith.

The work that the Res12 guys have put in, not only on the resolution but to the malfeasance in general has been astounding.

The vibes are not good though…

Has PL managed to hold off a SPFL Statement long enough so he could get off the Board when they decide to do nothing on the SC’S Decision?

Wednesday and Celtic’s reaction to any statement will tell us.

I’m now totally convinced the SPFL will not Commision a Independent and Impartial Review of the EBTs – What will Celtic’s response be, as there are no further barriers, will they press ahead with Res12?

Now, we will soon find out, as regards a Review and Calls to exam Sporting Advatage were Celtic PLC bidding their time, or stringing us along for pragmatic purposes?

I will make a decision after Wednesday.

I have just paid £600 cash for my season in Celtic Park. I genuinely hope that it is not the last cash I spend on Celtic tickets, but fear it may be.

  5. TET

I used that sum as an example given by the lawyer. It would be a typical token contribution for what could be a quarter of a million in costs at our end if we want to go on LNS, BTC, WTC, Res12 and same club myth.

You are right about the clubs though and that is why my view is that the ONLY way to get all this sorted out is via a Judicial Review.

I sat in Doncaster’s boardroom two months ago and debated all of this with him,

He believes he speaks for the clubs, they created the myth via the 5 Way Agreement, he told me that even if Supreme Court found in favour of HMRC he would do nothing, he said that WTC couldn’t be looked at and more. The Res12 guys were fully briefed via Auldheid and BRTH as were Celtic.

The club are active at the moment and more on the way forward will emerge.

The Geneva Tribune ad was delivered to UEFA officials and got Regan questioned on this at his AGM – paper luckily enough (!!) came out on the same day.

We can argue, debate, agree or disagree on here and it is sometimes great to form ideas and objectives – but it will remain a talking shop until we take matters beyond the internet.

We are also looking to involve fans from other clubs in this incidentally.

I go to most games and enjoy it immensely – last season was so special. But I want to see this through.

The members of the SPFL and SFA clearly believe that they need to defend any attempts to strip Rangers titles.

I can only think that they think this for commercial reasons. They think that Rangers are more likely to take their ball and go home if titles are stripped. They fear the loss of them and their pounds more than they care about the sport. They fear Rangers bhoycotting games, they fear the legal challenge from Rangers, they fear the requests for reviews of all of the nefarious issues they raise.

This must be true as no one from the SPFL or SFA has as yet not denied that Rangers cheated. If you cannot say they didn’t cheat then why are you defending a position that does nothing to protect your sport. They must think the commercial advantages of keeping their current decision making intact outweighs the commercial advantage of changing it.

If CQN is anything to go by they are right. I suspect Celtic are bracing for impact as they also believe that not stripping titles is the best decision. i await the press release that starts ‘ Celtic Football club have today reluctantly accepted the decision Of the member clubs….we will continue to push for changes to governance etc. Disappointed etc.

    JR would work IMHO.

SFA/SPFL could ignore but parliament, subject to its own oversight and audit, would have to justify public money going to an out of control fiefdom.

Think a boycott of AWAY matches, as a last straw, could be effective. Not now as we need to build a consensus but it would have the same financial impact as sevco boycott (greater actually if you count the damage they cause).

By the way – if anyone doubts that Jabba has sway over one or more editorial controllers at BBC Scotland have a look for the Barry bankruptcy on the BBC website.

You are following the same logic as the SFA.

Darryl Broadfoot stated that fans can decide themselves – if you disagree don’t turn up and if you turn up, by SFA logic, you agree.

Celtic supporters are going to turn up and any boycott would be a failure.

You are mad and rightly so but why give the SFA the “proof “they would love and would use again and again as justification?

Ye see, boycotting isn’t the same as what the, excellent Celts For Change guys did, with their, Sack The Board demonstrations, although they were boycotting as well.

But, boycotting dizny mean, demonstrating in the car park.

Boycotting means, not attending the actual game, therefore, denying the club, your money, which will be difficult now as,it seems as though the PLC are in hoc with the SPFL, going by the, timings of events.

    1. Season tickets sold out….

    2. Ban the Green Brigade…

    3. SPFL announcement.

they have timescaled a sting, and guess who’s been stung ?

    Aye,…..

Boycotting means, denying the club, your money.

But,if you’ve renewed yer season book, and you then, boycott, well the club won’t be affected as they already have your money. If you pay by direct debit, you can cancel.

This is why I’m suspicious of the timing of events.

They’re all cut from the same cloth.

Cheating crooks, who will, brass it out if empty seats appear.

Social unrest is a real possibility. Rangers have been out of control since they made their deliberate policy to exclude Roman Catholics. Their fans have supported that club. No authority ever took them to task on their sectarian employment policy. Fear again.

Celtic had absolutely no control over the timing of the Craig Whyte trial or The Supreme Court decision.

The completion of both brought into the public domain what was always believed but could not be acted upon.

It is still July and SC ruled on the 5th so, given the number of factors at play, and there are, for both Celtic and the SPFL were watching them emerge from both courts, I think not a lot of meaning can be put into the timing.

I imagine the SPFL AGM was arranged some time ago with no consideration as to when the court cases ended either. Id put that thinking back in a box.
