Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

You are following the same logic as the SFA.

Darryl Broadfoot stated that fans can decide themselves – if you disagree don’t turn up and if you turn up, by SFA logic, you agree.

Celtic supporters are going to turn up and any boycott would be a failure.

You are mad and rightly so but why give the SFA the “proof “they would love and would use again and again as justification?

    ======================

Broadfoot just reflects what those in charge believe.

Been in many a sticky situation and I’ve always preferred the Barrett rifle as a solution. It’s not that I dont appreciate the AK 47, but there’s a time and a place. Now is not the time.

Think we’re on the same page and I appreciate the time you’ve taken to explain.

  5. Celtic fans have done their bit in terms of the Long Game. We’ve waited through five years of this, through ridicule and sniping and people telling us that this was going nowhere, and even with a verdict from the highest court in the land the people running the game, and those running other clubs, are not in the least bit interested in what we have to say.

Fans of other clubs have talked a good game; now it’s blatant that every single one of us is going to be roundly ignored. That’s it, as far as I’m concerned. Waiting for change, in the hope these people, or enough of them anyway, suddenly discover integrity and altruism … it’s finished, it’s yesterday.

Come Wednesday, when the lie of the land is known, when they make their disdain public and put the official stamp on it, we’re at the end of the line as far as waiting and talking and gesture politics goes. Direct action, to hit clubs where it hurts, is what’s left.

Hit them from every direction, with a legal challenge, hard-core politicing behind the scenes, and in more in-your-face fashion with whatever fans can co-ordinate between them, but from Wednesday forward until season ticket renewal time for 2018-19 we do not stop fighting.

In the meantime there will be football to enjoy and enough of it to keep happy those Faithful Through and Through guys who can’t be away from the club for longer than a week … but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for their support, for the good of the game, and our club’s reputation and I don’t think, if it’s presented right, that a multi-club effort from the fans would fail.

But from Wednesday onward, no more gestures. No more relying on their good nature and the hope that sanity or decency prevails here … the talking is finished, and no-one will be able to say we didn’t do everything we could to avoid this, because we did.

Five years of waiting, by the way. No more.

  9. Well, the time has come for a boycott.

If clubs aren’t going to act then the supporters must.

I’d start with the threat of it. A time limit given and then, if no new inquiry, a call to all fans of all clubs to stay away from their stadia.

Along with that an immediate boycott of hampden for any game, club or international should be called immediately. All clubs beaten by oldco in Europe should be informed that rangers players were improperly registered and in one season the club had known outstanding social taxes and should not have been licensed to play in Europe at all.

The scandal needs to be brought to a head.

  17. Interesting blog tonight . Many valid points .

TWC . Regan been in touch . Nice one . I hope he sees every hour on the clock , every night for the foreseeable future .

A judicial review seems the way forward . It would be easily funded by the Celtic support .

Even the SFA & SFPL know the score , they know what’s coming .

If Celtic PLC have the appetite , we will expose Regan and Doncaster for what they’ve stood by and condoned . Are Celtic PLC hungry enough ?

Doncaster will be at Celtic Park on the opening day of the season .

Perfect opportunity to let him and anyone watching know what we think about the lack of proper football governance . HH

Suffering from insomnia and writer’s block, isnt fun, let me tell you:)

I will never finish this new version of ‘The Decline and Fall of Scotlandio’

Im often recall that old professor liloleman, used to try and warp my brain when i was a lad, he liked to wear strange parade type clothing and knew more than a few handshakes.

That gentleman was one of the most respected historians of his day, and as bitter as they come, and had no qualms at all.

This is what i spend my time fighting in an academic sense.

Somebody has to do the s*** work.

Because, if we did not understand history, they would be telling you that John Knox was a messianic figure like the man from Nazareth, and King Billy was yer uncle:)
