Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

  1. While still hopeful that the doom and gloom predicted for Wednesday does not happen,

i fear that the vast majority of football fans in Scotland do not really care about what has gone on,

and any talks of boycotts will not get off the ground,

my only hope is that the board take it all the way,its the only way they can come out with any credit

and maintain the trust and backing of the support

It’s staggering that they think they can trot that out and get away with this..

This is a once in lifetime opportunity, it’s got to go the right way or the game is effectively dead..

HH and thanks James for all your writing on this and other subjects.

I haven’t seen news reports or statements from those with a dodgy photograph or two in David Murray’s collection.

I do think the Celtic PLC have acted in bad faith with regards the Res12 guys. I thnk they have been strung along , lied to and been given false hope that in the end will see the SPFL statement back the SFA one and the PLC will come up with something along the lines of we did our best but…

Traverso letter opened the door for PLC to take bull by the horns but IMO they bolted the door and placed the bull on guard while obfuscating and misleading the guys who have put so much time and effort in working on ours and the PLC’s behalf. I salute the indefatigability of the Res12 guys for their efforts and I am saddened at the tone of BRT&H earlier post.

Auldheid still seems positive but I don’t think his positivity would disappear even if PLC sat him down and bluntly stated the fight is over and that Rangers are the old Rangers, were not liquidated and own all their titles through honest hard work on the football field. That is not a slight on Auldheid as his positivity has kept him working so hard. for so long with hope.

I had a season ticket up to the Bill Smith Farce.

Most of the preceding years I was working abroad in a different continent but renewed anyway.

I’m not asking to see the size of yours, I’m asking what more are you prepared to do?

Without a coordinated, well supported movement going forward, sporting integrity is lost.

It’s the resolve of all of us determined to see accountability for all those years we were cheated find recourse through the courts if need be. When the time comes, I hope you’ll put your money were your mouth is. I’ll join you.

Would a judicial review hold any sway over organisations like the SFA or the SPFL, assuming a judicial review came down on the good guys side here in Scotland?

The only power we have, is the money we fund football with.

    That and nothing else.

They only thing they understand is profit, do not give them nothing.

Once their profit margins are effected badly, they will act.

We only have to get to that point.

Cant believe im having to plead with Celtic supporters to stand up and fight.

Just saw your reply from last night I just posted and went for a pint – was up in Nicaragua yesterday and while I’ve always thought of myself as a rebel, I ain’t no contra :-) Viva Sandinista .

Twenty, Twenty, Twenty fours to go…….back to Canada soon.

  10. Boycott?

Rangers had been away for 4 years and all the other clubs survived .

We boycott ….they will have Rangers money from their away support , plus the other clubs wont bat an eyelid at the pesky troublemaking Celtic fans not turning up .

If a boycott happens at away grounds and fans give up renewing their SB’s….

    1. I wont have to pester HAMILTONTIM for any away tickets :))

    2. I’ve always fancied a seat in the north stand .

Ps…we’ve waited this length of time another few days/ months to get all relevant meetings/questions answered a wee bit more patience is whats required ….and cool heads .

Pps… i’m a bit concerned about our squad going into the two games against Roesenburg… …

Anyhoo just my usual glass half empty , dont go radio rental its just my opinion :))

    Good night ….

  11. The only way forward would be through a genuine legal challenge.

In a country like Scotland we probably know the outcome.

Just ask Neil Lennon about the justice dolled out by a Scots jury.A perfect example of sleekit ,sniggering and prejudiced Scots.

The bigger disgrace is uefa will be fully aware of the corruption and given it tacit approval.

The sfa’s placement of their loyal blazers in uefa for decades has reaped reward.

The light is almost diminished for the game of football in Scotland and the huns proudly boast they would be happy to destroy the game if they are not aloud to rule it.

Even if not the case for most Scots they still prefer this over Timmy success.

  12. GARY67 on 24TH JULY 2017 10:07 PM

Any boycott or protest that requires support not attending any games won’t work, too many will ignore. A more effective response would be to hit the authorities in the pocket, boycott using companies who sponsor Scottish football and bombard them with the reason why supporters are being encouraged to desist from using their products.

A wee list to get started.

    http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/scottish_football.cfm?page=3305

The negative publicity, let alone any drop in turnover, would be enough for them to think about pulling out.

    ———————————————————————————-

A coordinated nation wide fans group of representatives from all clubs concerned is the best option to begin with going forward.

Let’s see who’s left on the battlefield when the fighting starts on Wednesday.

There are cowards on the sidelines waiting to run and I dare say a traitor waiting in the wings to about turn and keep a clandestine rendezvous on the other side.

Lets keep our guns well oiled mo chara.

Id rather fight till id dropped down dead, than give in. But maybe that is just me.

Why tf am i having to plead for people to stand up?

Im doing my bit, if everybody would do likewise, it would be over pronto.

    Give them nothing, absolutely zero.

Stop funding our enemies that want to cheat.

    That is the only way.

  14. MOONBEAMSWD:

They are sort of quasi-autonomous. I researched this last year or the year before, the English FA is a public body, which is how Parliament is allowed to interfere in the running of it, and the SFA was recently called in front of the Holyrood assembly for a dressing down over the minimum wage.

It’s also how the Scottish Government can threaten to legislate on Strict Liability.

    Sort of semi-public.

They have a public services charter or something like that, and a lot of their funding comes from central government as well.

  15. A judicial review will be a waste of money.

FFS, the highest court in the land have told the world they are fecking cheating bastards, the sfa-spfl are ignoring the highest court in the land, do you really think they will accept the findings of a fan driven judicial review, waken up FFS.

    I really despair at times.

The only way they will act is if the clubs force them to, nothing else will work, nothing, nothing, nothing, will work, the clubs have to do this, the fans can force them by withholding cash to them.

How we do that is up for debate.

But if some of you want to throw your money away carry on, just like you will be if you fund the corrupt game, they are laughing at you, they only want your money and here’s me thinking that us Tims were smarter that your average bear.

  16. Interesting that the usual subjects sadly jump to a negative anti board conclusion for every bit of news that emerges.

Interesting too that 4 posters who don’t even go are advocating boycotting to everyone of the 50,000 or so who have loved being part of the second greatest season in celtics history.

Is there a sense of bitter resentment from folk who think they have made a bed for themselves and have to lie in it whilst most normal celtic fans are loving this invincible era and hopefully beyond.

Just a thought. 4 talking of boycotting home games who dint even go and support the team anyway….that will really have an impact !

Maybe it’s folk resenting they couldn’t get a season ticket for a packed Celtic Park this season.

Can’t wait for our huge european game on Wednesday night and cheering on the Celtic.

  17. MWD

If the Court of Session comes to the conclusion that LNS was flawed, that Doncaster is wrong re came club, that there were 5 admissions of guilt in Big Tax Case before the appeals started, that the Wee Tax Case has never been dealt with and that rules have been set aside in all of the above then that blows Regan’s legal advice out of the water. He can bring his lawyer to the court of Session to argue his case on the advice given to Regan. That would be challenged and alternative points made and the court would decide.

Could Regan and Doncaster survive that? Not a chance. The SFA receive public funding btw so have a duty of care on this.

  18. The Exiled Tim.

    Re a judicial review

    You are 100% wrong.

    It is the only way.

  19. BURNLEY78:

I’m not entirely aware of anyone talking about boycotting home games.

The issue at stake here is away matches.

The argument that guys who are ALREADY boycotting don’t have the credibility to recommend or suggest that course of action is , in my view , a little weak tho.

Because I’d rather someone was on that side of the fence than on the Do As I Say Not As I Do one.

A few Sevco fan reps got caught out doing that, if you recall :)

And yeah, I had a good laugh about that.

  20. BURNLEY78 on 24TH JULY 2017 11:08 PM

  21. Burnley78,

  24. ERNIE LYNCH:

Do you think a judicial review WOULD fail?

There are clear, demonstrable, failures of governance here, with legal findings to back them up.

To me it’s a home-run hit, if folk decide it’s a viable strategy.

I’m as certain of it as I was about the outcome of the EBT case.

  26. The Exiled Tim

It may be a waste of time but it would hardly be a waste of money as we have the opportunity to get it for next to nothing as I know you read last week.

I gave you an example of a proposed wind farm, a community group objects but gets nowhere and the project preocceds, the protesters get an order and have effectively legal aid to progress with a judicial review / if they lose waste of time not money. If they win no wind farm.

  27. Who briefed Chris McGlaughlin?

    Was it Jabba?

I’m going to wait until Wednesday.

    But my earlier comment stands.

    Stick to facts.

Rangers cheated, titles stripped, not a punishment, consequences.

Sevco are a new club, no sanctions.

  28. Ernie

You are correct. Judicial reviews can be taken against both public and private bodies in Scotland. I note however that there is a 3 month time limit on seeking a judicial review. Would this time limit be from point of LNS decision, Supreme Court decision or another point?

    MWD

  29. ERNIE LYNCH:

There are four good reasons I can think of right away.

    1) Doing so doesn’t negatively affect your own club in a major sense and it’s easier to sell to fans.

    2) Celtic may have done the right thing here and may be on the right track … boycotting your own club when they might be following a perfectly valid strategy would be mad.

    3) Celtic is one of the few clubs that COULD survive a sustained boycott and not crack, so any such action would probably prove to be counter-productive anyway ….

    4) The only thing that matters here is the result, and the result is achieved when the voting tips our way to the ratio of 50% plus 1. We don’t even NEED to convince Celtic as long as we can bring enough pressure to bear on enough of the other clubs … and that will be easier than changing the minds of our own, if those positions are entrenched. Other clubs are more susceptible to this kind of action, more vulnerable to its effects. The win is all that counts, and good strategy allows for flexibility … when the German’s launched the war in the west they went around the Maginot Line, not through it.
