Look under the bonnet at Killie

647

There is no outrage louder than moral outrage, so I ignored this week’s stupidity by Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston, adding volume seemed moot, but if you look below the bonnet of this decision you’re likely to find the real story.  Kilmarnock FC is in a critical condition.

They need your money this week, probably even more than they need the goodwill of their own fans.  Mr Johnston’s most damaging folly has not been to offer Celtic fans a better deal than his own club’s supporters, it has been the failure to address the club’s financial imperative over a long number of years.  Like another club I can think of, getting cash in the door is the only game in town, as a failure to do so would bring enormous consequences.

It is the Killie fans who suffer as “Speaking as a solicitor” Johnston clings to what passes for power at a busted flush.  Don’t apologise for this week’s self-harming insult, instead be contrite about the actions which brought about the problem.

  1. I cannot think of any other club in the world whose fans, on seeing match tickets on sale at exorbitant prices on a tout website, would openly accuse the club itself of supplying these tickets to said website.

All because the club announce a separate deal with a legitimate ticketing website, and certain people put 2 and 2 together and get “sack the board”.

    Unbelievable.

Stubhub in principle is not a touting agency. The club could have set a sell price low enough so that buyers got them for face value, once Stubhub had added their fee.

I’ve asked JP Taylor to clarify if there was any reason why this couldn’t be done, and if not then could the club review the pricing policy for future games.

    Doc – I did thanks.

I managed to get my requisite amount of shares online through the broker the Canalamar recommended (raided the Christmas piggy bank, but time to make that up!). Got my resolution to Morrisey23rd in time for it to get in to Big Pete – hope it isn’t chucked in the corporate bin.

Although I did get my shares, I’m still irked at Kilbowie Kelt (who I do usually agree with, to be fair) calling out anyone who did not support the resolution by purchasing shares – apathetic, no right to complain in future if they didn’t weigh in, etc.

Shares were, as he pointed out, only 64 pence each, but there is a transaction fee of about 13 quid on top. Not a lot for some maybe, but it is for those who don’t have spare money. It didn’t sit well with me – in essence the effect of some of the comments were that people who are struggling financially, and couldn’t back the resolution by purchasing shares, should have no voice in future.

Ach – ignore me – I’m probably just too soft.

    Thanks for asking.

I am well on the road to recovery.

Went swimming yesterday, my first physical exertion since surgery, though I took it nice n easy.

    Back to work on Monday.

All in all I feel good.

  5. BGFC,

I had never had shares before, but it feels worth it. I know pension plans have them, I mean I bought them.

Some posters over state their case sometimes, Kilbowie Kelt was only trying to get support.

And that push seems to have done the job.

Don’t tell Mrs Doc I bought them, she doesn’t know yet.

Hoi Doc, see instead of feeling sorry for me and Cowiebhoy, get us both a large dram on Saturday. That will help ease my pain.

On the subject of Christmas – just looked on the cs-sportswear website – Wee BGFC has every Celtic top imaginable, and was thinking of the Celtic Nation top for his pressie once the coffers are back in better shape.

In the processing of registering on the website and a name came up – Chris Storey. Have I saw that here in a bad connotation, or was it something similar?

Bada Bing, see my earlier post. Any available tickets if they’re within the club’s control i.e. uefa returns should be put on general sale giving non ST holders a fair crack at getting them.

Doc – I know, and when you get passionate about something, that’s what happens. As I say, I usually do have sympathy for most of his posts, I just thought he was a wee bit OTT on that occasion.

Anyway – not to worry, and the good thing is that I have them now! Celtic shareholder – who would have thunk it! I won’t be for long, though, I’ll be giving them to Wee BGFC for Christmas – ssshhhhh, don’t tell him!!!

Doc, not yet. Still trying to get the cask out of the bond and transported to bottling. I’ve just about finished the label design and it looks brilliant. I’ll text it to you in a moment.

Are you coming through for the game at the first venue on saturday? Did Mrs Doc gie you a pass to spend the day wi the hootenannaers?

Er they were put on general sale, albeit at £7 more than face value. That’s my problem with the method used. If they sort that out for future games, then the route of sale is fine, as far as I’m concerned.

    BGFC,

It would seem that I have caused you offence.

Be assured that none was intended.

My intention was simply to stir a response from anybody who COULD help Canamalar’s petition but had not done so.

I was not intending embarrassment to anybody who was not in a position to buy shares. Indeed, it is a situation in which I have spent most of my life.

    Apologies for any perceived criticism.

Old Willie Shakespeare puts it better than I ever could,… ‘ I have fired an arrow o’er the house & shot my brother’.

    Good Luck.

  19. Before I go, a friend just pointed out that the US and Russian govts have had positive talks about de-arming Syria of it’s chemical weapons.

Had Ed Milliband not put a halt on that vote two weeks or so ago, we’d be bombing all hell out of that place. If he achieves nothing else as Labour leader that alone is a great thing.

  20. Heading to Killarney for 3 days. Looking for advice on tours, attractions, pubs, restaurants and where to watch the Bhoys on Saturday. Thanks, in advance.

    NatKnow, brewing? Brewing?…………………….Naw

Distilling is what ACGR is doing. I’ve been involved with a number of independent cask bottlings and the next one is imminent. An 11 Y.O. cask strength Craigellachie (Craigellachie Telford’s Bridge). Due out in October if I can get it in glass by then.

I’ve been buying casks in various syndicates and by myself for about 10 years. The idea is to bottle every two years and hopefully by about 2015 be bottling yearly.

I just love the stuff. Like Celtic, I just cant get enough.

Kilbowie Kelt – forget it – I was just being an oversensitive woos. Your prodding had the desired impact with me, so that’s fine. Half of it was probably that, deep down, I felt that you were right. Funny how some very general posts strike at you personally, isn’t it?
