Lose and Aberdeen season is over

593

Aberdeen will already be in town ahead of their game at Firhill tonight. Lose tonight and a season which promised so much as recently as Monday, will effectively be over.

Tomorrow’s game against Inverness will present a robust challenge for Celtic. Inverness are one of four clubs locked within a point of each other, a maximum of three of them will be in the top six after the split. Despite the fact that the Highlanders are competing in the right half of the table, with a Scottish Cup quarter final against Hamilton Accies to look forward to, they are only five points from the play-off spot.

Players will be battling for their livelihoods in every sense of the word.

Well done to Erik Sviatchenko’s old team, Midtjylland, on their Europa League win over Manchester United last night. And to the observer who noted that they have now beaten more top six teams in the England and Wales Premier League than Manchester United or Manchester City.

You wonder what last night’s results will do to the marketability of the Midtjylland players, and whether or not we would have been able to get Sviatchenko in the summer, had he stayed. Big results bring focus and scores of scouts. We nipped in at the right moment with Erik.

Good luck to Thistle tonight.

    Took you long enough :-)

The elbow into the Aberdeen player was up there with one of the worst I have ever see, not even talked to, no review, nada, and we wonder why we get so many injuries.

Oh to have a game where it’s fair, honest, transparent and level.

Sort the referees, sort the game.

Macjay … I didn’t take any offence mate! Since we are all Celtic supporters, my CQN rules are pretty simple:

    (i) even if I disagree with a post, always keep in mind that we are all Celtic supporters, and all want the best for the club (even if we sometimes disagree on what that is);

    (ii) try to keep the poster separate from the post (dont take a disagreement personally, and dont make an argument personal);

(iii) if a comment can be taken in more than one way (for example, one a joke, and one an insult), always take it in the best possible spirit; and

(iv) we all have a right to an opinion on CQN, but its P67’s house, so he gets to set the rules, and I have to abide by them..

I find I enjoy CQN much more if I keep these rules in mind when I post.

Likewise, I never count no chickens, got to the stage the wee yin tells me to go in the kitchen and we might score, think P67 being a vehicle for the board is a bit harsh but am afraid I even love the Celtic View, hopefully I can make my own mind up and don’t take the CV or P67’s view as the truth and nothing but the truth…… But as a Celtic site for mainly Celtic fans the article should be pro-Celtic with a wee dig now and again at our board if so need be, again I think the article is just a (Celtic) view then leaves us eeijits to lead the way the conversation goes

Gerryfae … I dont think you and I really disagree ..

Cetlic, CQN (even the Celtic view) are like family ….LOVE them…. but that doesn’t mean they dont piss you off, or drive you crazy sometimes!

  5. Jobo. Completely understand about ticket price…should be a £20 limit for all SPL games.

Anyway, I wandered round to ticket office at recent Thistle game to buy on the day of match, around 2’ish.

There were a few of the NI Bhoys there on the corner and one of them sold me a spare brief for £20, that was what he had paid for it from his club? Anyway he said his club always have a few spare to sell. May be worth sending the lad round there?

Regards Denayer, he was playing right back for Galatasaray last night against lazio in the Europa. Not sure if it’s what man city had in mind but he looked very good, put some decent crosses in as well as looking the part defensively

I hope brown’s presence will be enough to keep the troops going tomorrow if we dont come out in 8 goals mood

  8. mike in toronto on

    Macjay ….

PS … Boyata got off to a bit of a rocky start, and his confidence seemed dented, but if he can get his confidence back, I think there is a real player there … same with Jozo .. and I really like the new guy.

  9. mike in toronto on

CEltic40 … I was thinking of him more as a defensive mid … nowadays, fullbacks means wingbacks, and so many of them are converted wingers, so I hadn’t really thought of him as a right back

but now that you raise it, I can see JD doing a good job as an old-fahsioned right back ….

Denayer seemed like a good kid, and always seemed to speak well of Celtic …. so, while it would have been great if he had stayed, I hope he does well where ever he ends up..

Adi …. I”m not sure if I spelled the name right, so dont go changing until you check! :) but I think you would enjoy the book.

Totally agree re Cqn, MacJay has already stated its his Celtic boozer from other end of the world, I very rarely read back but if I am reading and somebody posts something that I have no interest in I don’t respond but it’s a blog I try not to take it too serious …..

Would be delighted to get a sight of Paddybhoy Roberts the morra, but would be happier if Scott Allan got a bit more game time, a midfielder that passes forward, out of our 17 or 18 midfielders, he has the bit of vision we need to break teams down especially at Celtic Park

  12. Jobo, CowieBhoy will bring my tickets to the game tomorrow for you, an adult and student ticket.

Will arrange to get them back when convenient.

Good to see the tickets go to a good home for the day.

  13. Jobo, something wrong with that email address

Perhaps someone should bring that to the attention of Paul `67 .

He might like to use that as an understanding on blog etiquette :

“Read this and signify your agreement before registration.”

I am really optimistic about all our recent recruits. If we give Ronny another couple of years working with the best young players in Scotland by far we will prosper.

I asked my Godson today about Barry McKay. My nephew is left back in the successful Ross County development squad. His reply was, “Uncle Garry, my nickname for Barry McKay is Ma pocket. Where he has ended up every time I faced him. One trick pony easy to read.”

  16. I see the Magic Hat wants to end the use of artificial pitches “In the top flight.”

What experience does this Billy come lately have of the top flight?

He has obviously been influenced by the “We arra peepul” school of thought in Govan.

Is this over his specialist penalty kicker being injured recently?

Only Sevco could have an NFL like specialist penalty kick taker in their side.

Who is working his strings from behind the curtain?

Between the pitch width fiasco and the plastic pitch brouhaha they display an arrogance similar to the now defunct Rangers.

You were posting to the TOSB the other night about Marcus, I was going to ask about your godson as I remember when he was released by Dundee Utd, glad he is doing well but hopefully keeping some one trick pony from a lower league is the least of his worries, hope we see him soon in the Ross Co first team

  18. I’m not saying this is my selection, but more a prediction of what Ronny will start with tomorrow.

    ———————–C.Gordon———————–

    Lustig. Boyata. King Erik. Tierney

    ————-Broony. Bitton ——————

    —Roberts. Johansen. Armstrong—-

    ——————Griffiths————————

  19. Waghornpen done his knee with his over exuberant dive (al a Albertz) fek all to do with the plastic pitch.

  20. Our two previous games against ICT have netted us 6 points.

Unfortunately I only anticipate 3 points tomorrow.

  21. If he does start (Armstrong) I would say there is big pressure on him to give a good performance.

If not imposing himself by half time, I would replace and give Christie the full second half.

Similarly, if Johansen starts we need a big performance from him. Again, if not happening I would hook him at half time and give Allan the full 2nd half.

    Ruggyman

Either GMS or Forrest is my prediction instead of Roberts.

    Goodnight all,

    JJ

  23. Ruggyman

Where is Charlie playing in that formation? :-)

I don’t think Robertson will feature until the game is won and not before 60 minutes.

I think he and one of Christie or Allan will get a run out for 30 mins once Leigh has secured his hat trick.

  24. Ruggygman

Swap Paddy for GMS and I reckon you will be right :-)

I would start with, if fit

    Gordon

    Lustig~Boyata~Erik~Tierney

    Armstrong~Broonie

    Allan~Rogic~Christie

    The Griff

But if was me I wouldn’t play 4231, I would play 4411 or 433, so there would be so many other perms.

The weans are the future, they will have little fear, let them loose.

  26. GG

    Charlie Mulgrew ??

Do you really see Charlie starting? What ahead of Brown or Bitton. Can’t see it. If fully fit, Mulgrew will be on the bench.

I genuinely think GMS drops out, for Roberts.

James Forrest, for me is now a million miles away. Not signed a new contract, and not really offering anything. I don’t see him featuring.

  27. On Jason, he gets Celtic and wanted to come back. Manchester City were reluctant to allow this but eventually agreed on the condition that we were in the Champions League.

That last minute goal cost us Jason’s return.

With the changes at City in the summer maybe just maybe Jason will become available.

Do we have the ambition to sign him? That is the question.

Personally I’d be delighted. He’d be perfect in Ronny’s Quality Street Gang.

  28. mike in toronto on

    Delaney’s …

    how you doing pal?

I agree that we have brought in a load of good young players.

The problem is, in the main, not our recruiting … its that we dont seem to be getting the most out of them once they join us… and our centre midfeld seems like the Bermuda triangle … where players go to disappear. And for me, the centre mid is the key … get that right, and the rest sort of falls into place…

RD seems to have an eye for picking young talent (assuming that he is the one in charge of recruiting) … but, based on the style of play since he took over, I”m not sure that he knows how to get the most out of the talent, particularly in the middle of the park

you must be mistaken about Mr. McKay …. if the papers are to be believed, he is another of the young zombies who will go on to be better than Messi. Surely, they wouldn’t lie about that, would they?

  29. Doc / Cowiebhoy – thanks for that, just name your charity!

Cowiebhoy – sent you an email.

  30. Celtic have been proven correct, despite what some of our number may say, in not responding to the plethera of Ronny stories in all areas of the Scottish media – respond to one and you have to respond to them all – if you don’t, the inference they will draw is “it must be true”

As fans I am sure we would all like to know the terms of reference under which Ronny was appointed, however the only time we are likely to find out would be sometime after the successful, or, otherwise, outcome of our next CL qualification attempt.

If we do go through then I’m sure that a statement to the effect that Ronny knew he would be given the time to rebuild and that there would be ups and downs, along the way.

If we don’t qualify, Ronny will be let go, allowing a new manager to come in on a similar deal.

There is not really any viable alternative in our position – let’s hope Ronny can do it.

  31. I would love to see the young lhads given a game but I won’t be upset if the manager doesn’t start them, as ICT have more than their fair share of hammer throwers. Until the MIBs give our players due protection, it is hard to see the young lhads getting a start. When and if that protection is forthcoming, we could have a right good team on our hands.
