Difficult to assess friendlies, but as for the real team, I think GT, CalMac, Jamesy, Frimpong and Ely all looked good

Eddy never got a look in unfortunately.

Would like the real Celtic to play the whole game v PSG. Eddy would love to put in a show I’m sure.

Now, as for fan discussion on CQN, I trust that Paul will make it clear that there are to be NO questions about the manager’s decisions. Never. Even in friendlies.

  3. On the day we unveiled the centenary strip at a packed Parkheid we lost 1-5 tae the arse, the smsm

had a field day we were in dire need of good players they cried. How did that season turn out.

    Hmmm..

Not bothered about the final score.

The difference between the first and second team is disappointing

Bitton and El-Hamed stood our because they are first team players.

Oil looked disinterested and Bolongoli stood out as a poor player in the second team!

    Everyone else looked bang average.

Seize the day, bhoys, seize the day.

    Alas, no one did.

  6. Elyanousi is a real player, hope he has a big season

Taylor also looks to be settling in as left back

Robertson has a big future as well

Yep! This is becoming more pronounced.

Time to freshen up a little. Squads win titles.

No margin for error (or complacency) this season

In fact, the benefits of losing are that you can learn from mistakes you’ve made.

    Winning teaches you very little.

    ==================================================

Trying to recall the last time I left a game we had lost counting my benefits :)

Winning maintains the feelgood factor offering the opposition no sign of a weakening, different views I guess, but from my viewpoint the first half showed little new,but confirmed a lock down does not improve positions we already knew to be weak.

    Stay safe. HH

Team 1 tonight unfairly hung, drawn and quartered for playing together for the first time…on the 2nd pre-season friendly after 5 months of not playing….

    FFS

  10. Some very strange posts during the game.

Lyon played the game as a serious warm up. Putting out their best players & playing them for the 90 minutes.

Celtic obviously reversed last game putting second string for the hour & first team for 30 minutes.

For us it was about match fitness first & foremost.

I understand that approach is frustrating for some supporters but all that counts is how we play & the results we get, starting with the Accies game.

Any attempt at a serious analysis of the game is a pointless exercise.

Team 1 was not unfairly hung drawn and quartered. The criticism/questioning was of the manager’s decision to play that side (against the Lyon 1sts). The only one on team 1 who got personally criticised was Bolingoli who looked poor even on that side.

EX CATHEDRAL, I’m very much the same, I don’t count benefits either after getting beat. I don’t like getting beat. Case in point, the last game before winter shutdown. I wasn’t happy! Horrible result.

But who benefitted from that result? I’m not sure the feel good factor did Sevco any good, but our results after that defeat do show the positives that can accrue from losing. I concede its a small sample size the make generalizations on but I do like how it turned out for Celtic. Also in order to learn from defeat you need to be good enough to see the mistakes and make adjustments to go on to winning ways

And like you said, Stay Safe!

Had a quick look on FB, some guy called Gerry, with a belter of a birthday cake, from “the brig” posted by Max V, any connection ? smiley face thing!!

  16. Our B team against Lyon A team. Lose first half 2-0. Quelle surprise.

How many saves did Bain have to make, I can’t remember any. And yet, we hit the post from deflected free kick and Henderson has a shot saved.

I know Lyon had the upper hand, but ultimately the weans did alright.

Bring on our A-team and it was an entirely different game. Loved the sharpness of the team, good first touches and creative.

I’m ok with how it worked out for us.

BTW why were two offences by our players worthy of bookings and not those of the Lyon players. Klimala and Elhamed in particular were assaulted on a regular basis.

  17. BelmontBrian 10.29pm

    Guilty as charged …

Max V a very good friend you might know her husband Paul V … he knows all of the bhoys you posted the other week… he was meant to be there today but attended last night and ended up at my nephews to the very very early hours of this morning

The cake was an absolute belter, a wee video of it too Hail Hail also doing the rounds :-)

  18. I think Soro & Klimala are first team squad, Robertson, Henderson & Karamoko are not far away,

Boli tried hard but he is not a defender,

Christie is shaping up to being our most influential player.

Elyounoussi did brilliantly for the goal , think he will weigh in with a good few this season.

  19. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Enjoyed that – good to see the difference when the majority of the first team was on.

What I took from that was that Bitton and Ntcham are easy first team.

Henderson looked good as did Anderson.

    Hopeful for Kamala.

Wee Dembele looks as if he has a good bit to go before being mature enough.

Oli Bolingoli – just reinforced that he has zero positional sense to play left back – if we go with him in big games, opposition teams will kill us with balls in behind.

Taylor is a good player, but I think we need a better left back.

Centre back position remains a huge worry in terms of numbers.

Bain was good – great touch on to the bar – but a keeper capable of the remarkable makes a huge difference in the crunch games – not sure if that is Scott. Need Fraser or an equivalent ‘game-changer’.

Eloynoussi = Sinclair. First-team stick on signing. Another couple of his level would nail on the league.

Small world indeed .. Max is one of the best very friendly with my two sisters and one of my best mates :-)

Haven’t commented on tonight’s game as haven’t saw one minute of it … think everyone on here should comment on what they think …. but not a thing is win or lost in these games … pretty sure Neil & his back room staff will worry when points are won or lost and not before then :-)

  21. Bolingoli Perf sure makes letting Hayes go look risky

Interesting that Bayo never featured . He won’t play vs PSG so what is he to think on the plane home?

  22. Huge crowds gather in Govan to welcome home the Veolia European Cup Champions. ‘This is bigger than Celtic winning the European Cup’ Alex Rae 😜

  23. BGFC, I didn’t mention Bitton, N’tcham or Elhamed because they are first team from last year, I think we might be able to add Soro & Klimala to the elite list and of course we have Rogic & Mikey Johnston & hopefully The Griff. Add those to the 10 outfield players who came on at the hour mark & you have a potential outfield squad of 18 players.

Forster, left back & centre half and we will take some stopping.

  24. Welsh , Robertson & Henderson will not make it as first team players .

They will earn a good living playing for lesser quality teams

I think the problem Celtic is facing ,regarding opposition , is that there is no standard below first team participation.

If a young player is not regularly pushing for first team inclusion by 19/20/21 years of age he must move on , go down a grade and test himself

I base this assumption on that we wish Celtic to compete at a European league level , if not accept mediocrity.

I will still be happy with 10/11/12 etc., but wish for more

    It’s been a long long 24hrs … but very very enjoyable …

Terrific the bhoys are back on a fitba Park, but have never cared a jot about pre-season as Tontine Tin mentioned earlier about us getting humped by Arsenal ? Think Liverpool gave us a doing one season as well … I will judge Neil & the bhoys when points or prizes are up for grabs
