McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

They are 125/1 with Paddy Power to win the Champion’s League.

Maybe they are a better side than we are,but deep down i still believe that we would turn them over at a packed Celtic Park,in a CL game.

I mean, are they any better than Udinese? Are they on a different planet from Athletico?

Not trying to make excuses, but we took both those sides to the wire, with a injury depleted team, and there couldn’t have been anymore than 30,000 at both our home games against those quality outfits.

  2. TET,

We are one of the best run clubs in Europe.

Stein started the ball rolling, but DD & PL also helped to put the huns to sleep,as they squandered millions of the Bank of Scotland’s money, just trying,in vein to hang onto our coat-tails.

    And that,my friend,is fact.

You could be right and I wouldn’t know, I’m not aware of how other clubs are run.

I’m glad that we took BQ’s advice and didn’t go down the EBT route, I”m glad that that we didn’t spend cash that we didn’t have and I’m glad that we aren’t spending fortunes on players who just aren’t worth the money.

    I think we agree :-)

I don’t think that a laptop loyal hack could write in worse terms about the manager of our club, but you’re quite happy to post that tonight.

Fair point but our August form in Europe has been shocking recently.

Consequently I have little confidence regarding our ability to turn over a limited but focused team of “winners” this early in the season.

If the clocks had went back then no issue but a rusty, unstable squad with known weaknesses and missing personnel then I am not so sure.

  7. Bazzabhoy’s right. Porto transact their business in exactly the same fashion he says Ajax do. Wanyama is not yet the finished article. In truth, he’s young and shows a lot of promise but at the moment, it’s only promise. If we got £6m/£7m for him now then that is good business. We could keep him for another year or two and run the risk of that ‘promise’ not materialising.

Who are the two that didn’t cut it, bazzabhoy?

  8. Dear Mr John `Bomber’ Brown,

I have received your recent application for a bank account with the RBS and just need you to clarify a few points.

Under the section entitled `Sexual preference’ you have stated `other’ and `right haunded’. I’m led to believe that this is a form of self worship, can you please confirm?

Under the section entitled `assets’ you have stated `the big hoose, car park & wee hoose’. Can you show the deeds of ownership for the aforementioned properties?

Under the section entitled `dependants and their ages’ you have stated `ra peepul, 1690′. Can you confirm that this name and number is accurate?

Finally, you have been asked to provide two referees but you have only provided one, a Mr Hugh Dallas, can you please provide one other who can vouch for your financial liquidity for the last ten years?

    Yours sincerely,

    Hector

This Tim will not be learning any hard lessons, I have lived through many hard times being a Celtic supporter, lived through the cheating, long before it became official, no lessons to be learned here mi amigo.

I know what I know, I give not a feck if you believe me or not, jst the way it is.

All I want is our club to get back to where I believe we belong, we are in a position to achieve this, believe it or not.

In my working life I have traveled the world, and where ever I have been there are Tims everywhere, all down to individual supporters, the club are way too lacking at trying to improve the clubs attraction.

I live in the mountains in rural Spain, without me, the locals would know feck all about our club, the media would and do not report anything about us, that is due to the lack of comms from the club, fact.

  12. has the worm turned

McCoist’s credibility was severely damaged by his demand in April to “out” the SFA’s independent Judiciary Panel (“Rangers supporters and the Scottish public deserve to know who these people are”) which had originally imposed the transfer embargo.

The SFA’s compliance officer, Vincent Lunny, has still to take him to task for that outburst – rendered all the more incomprehensible by the fact that Rangers officials were well aware of the identities of the panel members – and he is also likely to have his collar felt for his latest offering.

thats fair enough but it seems to me that the board prefer to do just enough and no more, to win the league. The case in point was the January window when we bought Flood for buttons, when it was obvious the goals had dried up and we needed a striker. Hindsights wonderful but I remember at the time saying that with Boyd not leaving the huns, it would be a turning point in the lg race. And so it proved, with the huns gaining automatic entry into the CL and picking up 12m.

I’m not saying blow 10-15m, but there’s a case for a new CH right now. If we cant afford 2-3m and or run with some debt then someones telling lies up there. PL knows we’ll win the lg by not spending another penny but there’s an 18m jackpot to be had if we give ourselves a better chance of winning it.

I’ll say it again, we could win 10 iar and not qualify once for the CL, and I would’nt see it as a great achievement. that would make us more like Linfield than Liverpool.

    to true my friend

re: signings and youth players: i acutally think NFL has been well supported by the board, when you consider the amount of bodies making up our first team squad. i think its normal that the board now address the squad size/ wage bill. in my opinion, we have not used our income wisely in the past (pre-NFL) even so, the board backed NFL and in doing so increased the squad size in order to win the league. that led to an unbalanced side, wages being spread thin and the need to trim the squad, hence the 10 or so players who have already departed this season.

The recent trimming of the squad needs to continue, as i said earlier, with another 6 + squad players leaving in order to free up wages although that will depend on interest from other parties. the lose of ki, in order to get some money in, may have to take place with any other fees greatly appriciated for others. i would guess we have a good few players (thompson 3k, blackman 3k, mccourt 8k, radmussion 10k, murphy 15k (great agent), ki 10k, bangurra 10k) taking good wages for nothing. however, they often act as barriers to the first team for young players.

hopefully we can move these players on and if so we can bring in 2 quality players this season. then we can give young players a chance to get into the team due to less squad players blocking their progress. young players will benefit more from working with quality operaters on a daily basis and during games, and will be more motivated if they see an openning, hence young players should progress further the first team will be better because quality will come before quantity for the first time in 4 years.

i can kind of see why the board would want to move players on before bringing others in. i dont think you can accuse them of not backing the manager

    keep the faith
