Memorable window but improvements still needed

332

There has never been a deadline day when Celtic have been so well prepared for the remainder of the season.  We raided Japan ahead of the transfer window opening, brought in a young Irish striker and last week added central mid Matt O’Riley from MK Dons.  Today, the squad is depleted by injury and international absence, but if we add no more, it will still be one of our most memorable transfer windows ever.

Getting some of the well-remunerated squad fillers off the payroll would also help (looking at you, Albian and Vasilis).  Both were acquired during lockdown widows, when scouting opportunities were limited.  They are better players than we have seen and will hopefully get the chance to prove their worth elsewhere.

I’m still trying to reconcile what we went through on Saturday.  Added-time goals in two games changed the landscape incredibly.  If we consider Hearts’ missed penalty on Wednesday, the margins of how Celtic have progressed to within two points of the top of the table have never been tighter.

We are in a better place than we have been in months, but we will need to continue to improve if the title is to be won.

  1. rangers planning for champs league eventuality – if they qualify , the money pays for his continuation. If he’s fit its some bit of business (don’t fool yourselves bhoys – if he we were linked we’d be over the moon).

Celtic do what celtic do – invest in potential , take gambles on loan players – this team is crying out for a signing like that – preferably defensive minded!

  2. Ramsey hasn’t played since appearing as a sub last October.

Former big name but I would wager an impotent signing.

  3. Can’t believe some on here writing a player like Ramsey off.

If he’s adding to squad it’s a good bit of business, if aribo goes not so much

He last kicked a ball in anger in mid November, and hasn’t did so since. According to the hordes, they think he’ll play on Wednesday…..

  5. if CCV get injured – we have Julian chocolate knees and welsh as cover. That is not good enough for a team chasing a championship and Scottish cup. Urighide has gone on loan but who replaces him?

Cant remember the last time we scored a header from a corner – we are not a threat in the air and its a major weakness.

Fingers crossed Julian come back stronger

On Saturday when we had a corner, our 2 tallest players ( Bitton and Scales) were both outside the box, when every corner was taken

  8. Not too bothered who they sign. Ange says he’s happy with his squad and signings mostly prak age or approachinh, which by all accounts appears to be happy, in harmony, with a rounded, fair, wage structure combined with the players’ desire to work for the club and the manager.

They have an ageing squad, many are out of contract in 6 months and we already know there’s are current disharmonies over wages.

In fairness they have a diverse squad, but how long will their players, particuarly those wanting to exit give for a club who’s fan reguarly racially abuse people/players/supporters.

    One last thing….

Player whose contract request hasn’t been granted by say a few thousand margin difference after talks which break down after didcussions in the last year.

Sevco, say they make loadsa money from sale to Everton recently l, I mean it was everywhere…..wellz Scottish MSM. . Then propose to sign Ramsay from Juve for big wages even if it is just partial of the huge wage.

Player: eh so you can afford to offer me that contract, you just won’t? It’s only £2 grand a week more. Jees you’re charging fans £50 notes for a Europa game. I got you there.

Sevco: yeah, we don’t actually care about you, see we’re supremacists and so- morally and ethically bankrupt and we went financially bankrupt before just to feel better about ourselves and cheat the game in Scotland. We don’t even care if our fans racially abuse you.

Player: Well I’ll just let the contract run down. Lost three goals at Ross County? Whoops!

  9. Let’s be very honest. If Ramsey was even remotely close to the player he was – he’d be flying into Heathrow today, not Glasgow. He’s done.

The bit I struggle with is the idea that a club gets to roll the dice for free. It is, literally, a free hit.

  16. SkySports saying Ramsey will be available for Wednesday night. He’ll be off the pace at the best of times but in a frenetic game like that, he won’t know what hit him.

Intense pressing and get into him as soon as he receives the ball – it’ll be like being a man down for them.

  17. Ramsey has played for a total of 112 minutes in 21/22.

Diallo has a career total of 8 appearances.

I’m not lauding the Ibrox modus operandi, merely highlighting it.

    “The proof of the pudding”….etc.

Our strategy has been forced upon us – what is it, eighteen through the door in six months? The majority look to be positive, Hart, Jura, CCV, Starfelt, Scales, 4× Japan, Jota, O’Riley & Abada – Kenny still to show – big questions over McCarthy/Giako and a few out on loan.

To have won the first trophy of the season and be in with a chance of top spot on Wednesday, is quite frankly astounding.

In my opinion the best Ibrox signing to date – forget Gerrard & GVB and all the recent players – their Sporting Director Ross Wilson seems to be the star-turn

  19. They would be better signing Gordon Feckin Ramsay as this guy will be lucky to play 2 games on the bounce.

He will want to much time on the ball another superstar that will think Scottish football will be a dawdle.

Does not worry me in the slightest.

What worries me more is the state or lack of Governance that still prevails in our game.

    ≠=============

Agree, but the principle feels at odds with the Financial Fair Play.

I guess it is an option under very specific circumstances, like these. Ramsey has been critical of the Juve fitness work so perhaps they are desperate to get him away from the players’ group. They probably figure their best chance to recoup something and avoid the last year of his salary is to get him making a splash somewhere. I guess they would have preferred the Premiership. My guess is that he has done this deal because he is confident of getting more games and a sympathetic training regime at TRFC. Perhaps he has even stipulated that as conditions for signing.
