Memorable window but improvements still needed

332

There has never been a deadline day when Celtic have been so well prepared for the remainder of the season.  We raided Japan ahead of the transfer window opening, brought in a young Irish striker and last week added central mid Matt O’Riley from MK Dons.  Today, the squad is depleted by injury and international absence, but if we add no more, it will still be one of our most memorable transfer windows ever.

Getting some of the well-remunerated squad fillers off the payroll would also help (looking at you, Albian and Vasilis).  Both were acquired during lockdown widows, when scouting opportunities were limited.  They are better players than we have seen and will hopefully get the chance to prove their worth elsewhere.

I’m still trying to reconcile what we went through on Saturday.  Added-time goals in two games changed the landscape incredibly.  If we consider Hearts’ missed penalty on Wednesday, the margins of how Celtic have progressed to within two points of the top of the table have never been tighter.

We are in a better place than we have been in months, but we will need to continue to improve if the title is to be won.

  1. Hopefully Maeda doesn’t see much game time. I’d hope he could play some role tomorrow from the bench at least.

  2. Who are the starters tomorrow? I would guess:

    Hart

    Juaranovic

    CCV

    Starfelt

    Taylor

    Hatate

    Gucci

    O’Riley

    Jota

    Abada

    GG

  3. Who knows if Callum or Gucci will be fit , until we get the role call today it’s guess work, could do with Callum’s experience in the middle for sure.

Norn Irn drug money paying for Aaron Ramsey?

    Sure it’s no Gordon Ramsey?

  5. callum did not look a well man on saturday.

his face had a sunken look.

he is probably still in a lot of pain.

fool hardy to let him play if he wanted to.

Take no risks with him at all and not his call , it has got to be with the consent of the Medical team, sorry if you thought I would rush him back, I wouldnt.

Everything will be as clear as mud after Ange finishes his presser!

A career in politics awaits him.

  8. I am a stand-alone Celtic supporter of long-standing, of that there is no doubt – no qualification, or spectrum needed there!

Do you stand alone because you have no friends, or are other Celtic supporters put off by the Union Jack draped around your shoulders?

    :–)

    Hail, Hail Big Mhan

  9. Garngad to Croy on

Japan are 2-0 up at home to Saudi after 55 mins . Maeda still on the bench (with a suitcase in his hand)

  10. I think the team pretty much picks itself tomorrow with the exception of the deep lying midfielder position.

Hatate and O’Riley will likely be deployed in the 8 and 10 positions, as they seem to be known now, so who plays 6 ??

McGregor if fit, obviously but highly unlikely and really not worth the risk to his wellbeing

Ideguchi, is he fit ? Do we know enough to have confidence he will perform well. Ange will know.

McCarthy, I actually think he will play. The writing might be on the wall for him if he plays no part with so many midfielders out. It could also be a huge night for him if he can find some of his EPL form.

    Some other ideas:

I saw Stephen Welsh suggested at centre mid on here last night. I dont think he will play there tomorrow but I’ve wondered for a while if that might be his long term position.

I think Juranovic would be a very tidy midfield player and Ralston is more than capable at right back, but again probably not a choice to make tomorrow.

We will see. In Ange we trust !
