Midtjylland, Danes again for Celtic

302

Celtic face Danish runners-up Midtjylland in the Champions League qualification round 2, with the first leg played at Celtic Park five weeks from now.  While there is an enormous amount of work for Ange Postecoglou and Dom McKay to turn the current squad into a force to be reckoned with between now and then, this is a decent draw.

Midtjylland disintegrated in May.  They won one, drew one and lost two of their final four games to blow the league title by a point.  Manager, Bo Henriksen, has been in the Midtjylland job just a week longer than Ange has been Celtic boss, so like us, they are very much a team in transition.

Unlike Sweden, Denmark do not play through the summer.  Danish football has a short, seven-week, break from May to July.  The new season starts the weekend before Midtjylland travel to Glasgow.  On paper, this puts them ahead of us but I doubt that seven-week window allows them to return to training much ahead of Celtic’s return next week.

Having done what looked like the hard work against then Danish champions, Copenhagen, in a Europa League away leg in February last year, Celtic capitulated at home, further exposing some of the wounds that would cost us dearly last season.  Copenhagen exited the tournament at the quarterfinal stage, where they lost a one-off tie to Manchester United by a single goal.  This was an opportunity a better Celtic team would have made more of.

Lots to do but this is one we should rise to the occasion for.

Cannae wait for Friday and hopefully Scotland pumping England 1,2 or even 3 nil – Kieran is the Ki. Still Happy we have went for Seperating from the EU, as I just don’t like Big Governments (Big Jimmy – I cannae explain what you ask about the 350Million – being honest dude) and we are taken out of a bigger government to get back into an even Bigger Government.

    ……………….

Well done mate, YOU are the ONLY Brexiteer that has been MAN enough to ADMIT that you dont know what happened to the £350 MILLION a WEEK, that Boris and his Cult Brexiteers PROMISED on Buses, that was destined for the NHS….What a TORY CULT Scam that was !

At least you are an honest man….UNLIKE some Tory/Brexiteers on here and elsewhere who NEVER answer that SIMPLE Question…” Where is the £350 MILLION a Week that was PROMISED to the NHS, II the UK left the EU” ?

A simple question that only requires a simple answer…So many Tories/Brexiteers are incapable of giving a simple answer on here and elsewhere.

LYING SCAMMING CHUMPS…its that simple !

I will let you know of course.

DAVID66 and his good lady helped me out BIG Time when I couldnt get my Tesco deliveries during the 1st Lock Down, but he and some others on here offered to help me at that time, including AN TEARMANN.

DAVID66 also drove all the way to my home just to take out my bags/boxes of rubbish, when I was so ill, and I couldnt get down my stairs…just before I was taken back into Hospital yet again for the 3rd time last June.

  5. Big Jimmy,

I am not a Tory and I didn’t vote for Brexit, however:-

    https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/projects/nhs-in-a-nutshell/nhs-budget

I see circa £ 62 billion of additional money has been spent on the HHS in England over the last year.

If we then add Wales, Scotland and the North of Ireland it would be fair to suggest a final additional investment to the NHS of circa £80 billion.

Now £350 million per week equates to £18 billion, 200 million GBP.

£80 billion equates to >£1538 m per week.

Much more than the £350 m per week suggested on the big mad Red economical with the truth bus.

    Cheers and HH.

  6. BIG JIMMY on 17TH JUNE 2021 7:59 AM

The Brexiteers lied about the £350m per week going to the NHS.

Politicians tell lies all the time, and it’s worse when they are trying to win an election or a referendum

The SNP, and their camp followers, did it during the independence referendum when they told us that the likely average price of oil, on which their economic plans depended, was $110 a barrel. The price is currently around $75. A year ago it was $40.

Feel free to berate politicians who tell lies, and feel free to mock those who believe their lies, but don’t kid yourself that you, and those politicians you support, are any different.

  7. Ernie Lynch.

Paradoxically the £350 m per week was not a lie, ( see above )

However the real story would be the figure without Covid 19.

    Big Jimmy,

    ———-

    ERNIE LYNCH on 17TH JUNE 2021 9:30

    ——-

First Class answers to our resident John McCririck’s usual crib sheet offering.

I voted to Remain like many in Scotland, unlike a large chunk of the SNPcult voters. As a democrat I of course accepted the result.

Ernie Lynch points out the lie about oil revenue in the cult’s “thick” White Paper in 2014. If we had been stupid enough to fall for their “it will be alright on the night’ crap not only would we now be bankrupt and run by the IMF, there is no way we could have afforded such a generous and long-lasting furlough scheme during Covid, saving a million Scottish jobs and thousands of Scottish businesses…..and of course we’d now all be scrambling for vaccinations like all EU countries.

Greenpinta points out the actual amount of money now being spent on the NHS and EL is right to say that much of it is contingent to Covid.

However what is galling is that the ‘well-informed’ cult supporters do not seem to be aware that normal proportional NHS spending in England is consistently higher than Scotland even though through the Barnett Formula fiscal transfer we receive £2500 per head of population more for services than England.

On the subject of lies – Independence is one big lie – there is no coherent economic case for it, if there was the SNPcult would be ‘shouting from the rooftops’ & plastering every billboard that they could rent with ‘skimmed’ cash, from the health & education Barnett consequentials.

Bit of pot calling kettle black going on at 11:02.

This individual regularly complains he ignores abuse from posters.

Yet again he is playing to the gallery with what he clearly regards as humorous – but in fact cheap and sarcastic shots at another poster.

  22. squire danaher on

    Jimmy

Go the whole hog with IBAS.

Betfred tried to shaft a mate of mine for £600 a few years ago.

He had done a 5-team weekend accy of which the first 4 had won and he was waiting for final selection which he had written as ‘Milan’.

Milan and Inter were both playing the Sunday. Milan won – getting the line up – and Inter drew.

Betfred attempted to argue his line was ambiguous as it was unclear whether he meant to back Milan or Inter. They split the stake basically giving him half of his money.

He argued that Milan are Milan throughout the world and anyone with reasonable knowledge would appreciate his intentions. He argued the Racing Post and UEFA call them Milan. He argued that has he meant to back Inter he’d have written Inter.

IBAS basically told Betfred to stop acting the James Hunt and give the man his money.

    Go get them.

  23. Just a couple of quick points from me on the Scottish independence topic

Caveat: I left Scotland at 24 to work in England for 15 years and then Ireland for 13 years to date so have no skin in the game on voting

    1. I always thought that the oil debate is anachronistic; was relevant in 1979 with high prices and high dependence. Independence is not for a parliament cycle, but for life so basing economic arguments on oil are irrelevant as the world rapidly moves away from fossil fuels (cars first, then aviation – marine likely will borrow tech from aviation propulsion as they do today)

    2. There is a fair bit of support for Scottish independence here in Ireland and people do generally have a big interest in the debate. The thing I have been pointing out recently though is that an Independent Scotland becomes a major competitor to Ireland in a number of aspects. Corp tax rate would surely drop to Irish level to attract business from England , EU, US, Japan etc.

Financial services are a huge part of the Irish GDP along with IT and pharma engineering and manufacturing.

These are all areas that Scotland are likely to promote (my boss was at a women only speech by Sturgeon in Dublin where she laid out 5, 10, 25 year macro economic plans)

In summary – Scotland won’t get it their own way after independence in terms of growth and the Irish may take some hit as they jossle for position

  24. I have to smile when I hear some say, “I want independence but I don’t support the SNP”. It is a distinction without a difference and quite frankly absurd.

I have no qualms with the traditional tartan SNPcult hardcore, probably around c400k/500k, who have always hated the English & craved “Freedumb” irrespective of the devastation that it would deliver to Scotland.

On the other hand, I have no time for their ‘johnny come lately’ fellow travellers who now try to pretend that there is a coherent economic case for separation.

However I reserve my utter contempt for that section of ‘our’ community that selfishly votes SNPcult just to “stick it to the huns”. These latter-day ‘converts’, some 350k seem to have no regard, or, appreciation, of the havoc that breaking away from the UK would bring to their families, friends, colleagues and business & employment in Scotland. ‘If they knew their history’ they would know that they were being conned by a cult who would, at the first available opportunity after independence, take steps to wipe our education system and culture from the map of their desired ‘blood & soil’ Nationalist Nirvana.
