Midtjylland look as ill prepared as Celtic

After two preseason games we have Bristol City tomorrow, Preston North End on Saturday before Midtjylland in Champions League qualification one week today.  Midtjylland have played one more game then us since their return to training last month and start their league campaign on Friday evening.

Our only consolation is the Danes look as ill prepared for a fixture of this magnitude as we are.  There are only two group stage places available in the non-champions route of the tournament; you would be forgiven for thinking this possibility was not worth hoping for, but we are in strange times.

By ranking, those two places are earmarked for Benfica and Shakhtar Donetsk.  Shakhtar have not played a competitive game since March and Benfica’s only competitive game in that period was a cup final in May (they lost).  The Euros is another complication for preseason regimes.

There is a clear opportunity for a well-prepared team to punch above their weight in these qualifiers.  Ange has a lot of work to do if he’s to take advantage.  We will learn more against Midtjylland.

    SFTB – indeed.

From memory the Scorrish Govt permitted the BRITISH Lions to be attended by 16.5k in 67.5k capacity Murrayfield last week.

    24% capacity.

Equivalent is c.15,000 at Celtic Park.

    SG – how no?

  2. all over the country , wall to wall condemnation of the behaviour of the racists.

meanwhile anti catholic and anti irish bigotory is celbrated by burning effigies and flags, on massive bonfires.

    Very odd behaviour.

Still tribal & suspicious of each other.

Only thing tourists sometimes get is the jokers who deliberately put on a heavier accent than normal ust to see the reaction. That and the odd mugging or pickpocketing.

  4. The club changes CEO and football manager, but it can’t change budgets. Celtic are run on the domestic parameters of 52,000 season ticket holders, a meagre £2MTV, plus whatever we can get for sales and merchandise.

Not surprising therefore that we deal in the same market of cheaper leagues Israeli players, cross border compensation and Bosmans.

Even Mo (the bounce) Bangura told us he was off to the EPL before he’d miskicked a ball for us. If we repeat the mistakes of last season we could be down and dirty with Soft Loan FC for years.

Top players want 60k a week, (see Ajer and Edouard ) We await the money from sales being reinvested in the squad, so hang around until 31st of August.

  5. Celtic need to focus on self before looking at other clubs and we have not prepared well for next season. That needs addressing, but it can be done quickly.

The lack of signings is not a good sign and needs addressed asap. Of the boys we have signed or are looking to sign all appear to be youngish, pacey and/ or strong. That type seems to fit what Arge wants to bring into the club. Clearly celtic will have a database, reports and videos of players and Ange should be allowed to pick from based on the type that fits his tactics, structure.

  6. Fill your boots, must be loads on here able to apply and make a world class contribution.

No vacancies in the fans’ café beside the Superstore ☹️

  9. Interesting site — Training Ground Guru.

Lots of news regarding coaches / training grounds / academies.

Shows the effort that is being put in quite far down the football food chain.

Quite a few things for us to learn — Barrowfield is the future not Lennoxtown.

“Midtjylland Look As Ill-prepared as Celtic”.

This is supposed to make us feel better? At least the host has tacitly acknowledged we are a shambles, yet the levels of complacency on here are off the charts.

We were promised change, and modernization, yet we have reverted to type by accepting yet another prospect from Dudu Dahan. Are there no other agents? He has brought us Bitton, Gershon, Ambrose, Elhamed, Kayal, Soro, Amido Balde and Scepovic. Some track record, eh?

When will we sign any oven ready MEN? Or someone who stirs the blood? The current iteration out of Govan sign a 27 year old, on a free, from Sheffield United, with 63 EPL appearances. We, on the other hand, sign a youth prospect from their bottom of the Championship City neighbors, with 19 appearances. Which one will help their team most this season? No need to guess. The Board must be laughing themselves sick.

  12. AP — the long road towards CFC redemption.

Looking like it will be a bumpy journey with quite a few bends on the way.

CL qualifiers — Tough gig but we cannot be as bad as last year.

Spartak and Shaktar looking like the two toughest opponents.

If we are not up to the challenge then that is some legacy PL left us with.

As it stands, with 2 minutes to go, old foes F.C. Cluj going out of Champions League to unknown Bosnians on away goals.

I know exactly HM – it is my utter contempt for all that the SNP stands for, nothing more, nothing less. They’re modus operandi is similar to the Cybernat.

SNP supporters are of course entitled to argue their case, so too am I. Respectful disagreement is healthy but anonymous insults hold no value – they’re worthless – I ignore them.

“no harm in being a unionist” none at all

    but you are a britnat.

eaten alive by its rancid racism and a confused mess for someone who was once a labour party member.not one bit of criticism

have we read of Boris or any Tory policy. Its what veneered socialists like you end up.the blair path- britnat unionism flexin its fascist

muscle.well you may guise some people Tommy.not me.

On a second note your critique of james forrest is a strange one.He ran away to twitter to lament about cqn.You done the same Tommy. You took to twitter and slandered cqn

source your Britnat stats.we are all refugees

Go on give Blojo and handonarse hitchcock a rant like you used to do back in your “war criminal” days (smile Tam).

na its easier to deflect away from the originofdeath-/union onto the mistakes made in Scotland.but tell me does the nationality of person dead with covid matter-No for me.irish, english, scottish or welsh.its the bastard virus.

Give us a rant bout contracts, corruption or anythin bout your beloved union……yeh i will await my hair to regrow.

and Ps Tommy no qualms on you been a tim.

its the covert unionist britnat shite that is jistwrang, has no basis in socialism and smells/honks/reeks of Blojo’s ambition

I listened to the broadcast between Ange,Dom McKay and the Suppotter reps.

There was a James Forrest attending that meeting who asked a few questions, non earth shaking, surely that’s not the same person who frequently appears on here delivering tub thumping abuse to all and Sundry?

A bit like my favourite player of the same name! runs hard at the opponent but seldom delivers a meaningful tackle.

No need for all this aggro.

Looking forward to Sat.game assuming my DIY print and fold ticket works.

    Calm down,get united.

    The club can change budgets.

It can go for growth / it can be innovative / it can look at new income streams.

The problem has been a complete lack of understanding regarding growth.

Plus a warped sense of value.

We can pay a CEO 60K pw but we can’t pay any of our players this amount.

Thought away goals rule was ditched

Yes – away goals rule has been scrapped from this season – but Italy won on penalties anyway ! ;)

  18. IniquitousIV on

With penalties looming, Cluj score a superb goal to lead 4-3 on aggregate with 2 minutes of extra time remaining. With the Bosnians repeatedly collapsing with cramp, I don’t think they will lose out now.

Up to this point, Cluj completely dominated the match with 22 shots to 6, yet found themselves 2-0 down, because their only two mistakes were punished severely. Another European lesson.

Looking through an old Celtic View 12 april 1967 and back page advert Celtic cigarettes. On the night we face Dukla Prague and a week earlier we beat Clyde 2 nil in the semi final of Scottish cup, Bobby Lennox and Bertie scoring.

P.S. Anyone ( oldies) remember the price of 20 Celtic ciggies?
