I think given the players they had missing AND the level of their performance measured against the best I’ve seen Celtic play in Italy it is clear a lot of comments are coming from frustration.
Milan are not the team of old, much of the trepidation about this game is the name and the Stadium but as a team they were poor and looked more than ordinary for long spells. The equally frustrating thing is they will pick up more points in this section and we cannot say the same of Celtic.
We usually have one great away performance and two bad ones – we need to address that now if you consider this to be a great performance and replicate that level WITH goals.
At home we can beat that team we played against tonight but we must pick up something in our next two matches against Barcelona AND Ajax or the section will be over for us.
Huge matches coming up and I think it is fair to say the next two sides we play against will have a different level of performance to Milan.
Brown, Sami, Stokesy all unlucky with their efforts but you have to bury chances at this level or you’ll get punished.
If we are ticked off at not getting something in Milan I happen to think that is some level of progress.
No more hard luck stories – just win Celtic.

Enjoyed tonight, on our club getting beaten by Milan. Now there’s an oxymoron.
Very good display by Neil’s team and undone by a jammy goal.
Tried to find the Italian word for jammy, but maybe itialabhoy can help?
Good feeling is that I have went from apprehension 2hours ago to ‘bring it on’, now that I have confidence in he team neil is pulling together following that performance.
Belief is the key and he new ghuys will have got hat in abundance tonight.
When Celtic didn’t score first, the writing was on the wall, and Milan actually scored early in Barcelona last year, contrast.
NFL kicked every ball you could see he knew the clock wouldn’t help us and every missed chance drew the inevitable deflection, or lucky goal for the money of Milan.

Matthews can play as right winger but his crossing was awful. Sort that out and we have an asset for European games, the additional bonus being he naturally tracks back as well.
Thought the centre back partnership was for the most part superb. Virgil cut out and blocked almost everything and Efe was making the runs our midfielders should have been making.
Agree, Stokes can’t play up on his own in games of that magnitude, domestically yes but not CL.
Matthews was just back from an injury doubt and seemed to a few of us to be tiring. Who better than our next fastest winger- Boerigter- to replace him?
Kris is usually subbed around the 70 minute mark- no surprise to see Pukki get a chance.
The 89th minute sub of Biton at 2:0 down is a matter of supreme unimportance and not worth dissecting.

I didnt like the way we seemed to chuck it after the first goal. There was a good 8 mins to go fgs!!
I agree, Kelvin done very well for Celtic last year in the CL as well. Virgil was oozing class just like his, what looked like his Best Pal, Efe at RCH. Superb performances.
Neil is so far advanced in his thinking, he is addressing the malaise in domestic games by bringing 2 Uber Centre Backs, who could, if the midfield and forwards are tightly marked, walk on and take shots at the opposing keeper, given the real movement from the Celtic Mid & Forwards these things are entirely possible.
I certainly Loved the way both foraged forward tonight in the San Siro with Great purpose and belief, the team m8s covering was highly drilled stuff.
We have a real Genius at the helm.

We competed well for 80 minutes but visibly tired and lost cohesion last 10 minutes. Very jittery first 10 minutes or so but came on to a game and looked dangerous down the right with Lustig & Matthews.
Lack of composure let us down – final balls were often poor, and when goal opportunities were presented we didn’t work the keeper. We never looked as though we had a real goal scoring striker threat.
The defence played pretty well, and Efe Ambrose provided real penetration when he carried the ball deep into the Milan half.
Just watched the Brown/Balottelli incident which led to the 2nd goal on after game TV review – Balottelli made the most of it just as he did throughout the game. Scott Brown needs to wise up!
Can’t help feeling that we should have made our substitutions a wee bit earlier, too many players running on empty. With experienced CL players on the bench (Pukki, Boerrigter) we could have injected energy and freshness a wee bit sooner.
Nevertheless, lots of positives to take out of the performance.
Why is it when the Celtic players impose themselves on allegedly superior opposition and stop them from playing their usual game, the opposition are poor rather than Celtic being good?
Was it a poor team that lost 2-1 at CP on 7th November last year? No. It was the best team in the world. Unfortunately for Barca their opponents played brilliantly to suppress their creative edge and stifle their game… then scored with virtually their only two chances of the game.
If we had scored with HALF of the chances we created tonight we’d have been going home with three points.
As Milan’s De Jong said himself, Milan were lucky to win the game tonight. End of.

As you can see there are more than me who disagreed with the substitutions. There were a number of tired players in our team. Neil took off the players IMO who might have changed the game in our favour.mStokes hit the bar with a great free kick. He also made a good chance for himself with clever footwork in the first half but naively went for the near post instead of the far post with his shot. I would have changed like for like – Pukki for Stokes. Matthews is right sided and we were experiencing a lot of joy down that side so why change him for a left sided player?. Sammi was not great tonight so why not swap Derk for Sammy?

Efe seems to have tidied up his game. Only once tonight did he run into a dead end. The rest of the time he used the ball intelligently and made good runs from the back creating lots of space. Feel good about our 2 CB’s for this season.
I really hope Pukki is what we need. Only time will tell.
