  1. Is Broonie now close to being the complete player we had always hoped?

Another excellent performance tonight by our captain

  2. Very disappointing on the basis that Milan were mince and unfortunately so were we. Terrible game of football for a neutral I would say.

Brady and Dunphy on RTE were steamin at full time, says it all.

Stokes, Commons, Samaras had to produce tonight as a combo but didn’t. Really missed a winger and was crying out for Boerigter.

I hope all knockers of Forrest see what we were missing tonight.

On the positive side, I thought Forster, van Dijk, Efe and Izzy(minus the goal) , ere comfortable tonight. Brown had one of the best games in CL of his career.

Good team we gave now but really need to click up front.

Charlie was poor but yet again was played out of position, so not his fault. With Kayal and Ledley injured, who else could have played there.

Weird feeling that I thought we were miles better than the majority if away games I have watched since 1980 but I am still annoyed!

No offence my friend but no we won’t.

    don’t know.

Milan finish at home to Ajax and will probably need to beat them to qualify presuming Barcelona beat Milan home and away.

  5. Must say CQN after a disappointing result is not a place, where I a Celtic Supporter want to be. I find that sad but I’m out of here for the night at least. To all those posting who are proud of the teams performance Hail Hail. To those who aren’t pog mo thoin.

  6. BigChips, good point, we made Milan work very hard tonight, and not just with hard work, technically Celtic have good players, Lustig, Mathews, Van Dyke, Ambrose, Stokes, Foster.

Now While Milan had players missing we missed Ledleys control in midfield late in the game, and we could have done with Forrests pace and directness.

  7. Bhoys played well, just ran out of steam a bit. The goal so lucky for them but was first time we were slow to close down so from our perspective was avoidable. Still much rather be a Celtic fan than support any Italian team and any team with Balotelli in it.

Ref was ok but how do these Italian teams get free kicks in their favour when defending every corner, it’s clear to everyone they are massively the principal offenders.

Our three best CL performances in last 2 yrs have seen us skelped 3x by Italian teams. Those Italians are sure no in the entertainment business!

Can’t wear same colour of shorts (UEFA rule) and we never play in the hoops with anything other than white

    ==

Sounds reasonable but there is historical precedence for Celtic wearing black shorts albeit with the green and white vertical stripes circa 1890’s.

Thought we had good performances all over the park. VVD looks good, Matthews did well but again I thought KC was our most effective player, he looked liked he was the only one capable of unlocking the Meelan defence.

If I was hyper critical I thought FF having got a hand to the ball, could have done better than push it back into the centre of goal. But he had a few decent saves as well.

Very unlucky tonight but no point in feeling sorry for ourselves. We played very well and should take heart from the overall performance. We can definitely still progress. Barca will coast this group and it sounds like Ajax aren’t up to much. Second place still very much a possibility and third place/Europa league should be the worst case scenario.

We really, really need to improve our deliveries into the box though – that was what truly cost us tonight.

That is hard to take. I think Paul should remove the ban on swearing for just one night.

We played well and I won’t criticise any of them but that was a poor Milan line up held together by a brilliant Mexes and Ballotelli (yes, he conned the ref several times but he’s good at it).

We now have a real tough one to face at CP in Barca and I cannot expect any miracles.

We have some good men at Celtic just now. If we had just a bit more cutting edge, we might just jump this glass ceiling yet.

We are looking very good considering the loss of our Spine.

If we lost our First game at home I’d be a wee bit more worried.

We deserved at least a point obviously and I cannae wait to see the olde Barca come up against the skilled and passionate Giants Neil is growing organically with some harmless additives of well over 6 ft.

    Really …

    A very pompous condescending statement

.Stokes has been tried before as a lone striker …he played as he did tonight …

On the corners, just a Question.

Why a 6″3 left footed player taking them, and a 5″8 left footed player in box, only changed on the 9th I think.

    Hail hail

    =============

Because historically (12 goals from corners in last 36 games including tonight) we have scored goals from Charlie’s delivery. Recently, last 13 games no goals from corners, that’s not been the case.

On the flip side we’ve not conceded from corner in 36 games this year. The run goes a lot further back than that but I only start collecting facts at the beginning of the year to prove that zonal does work.

Why is it when the Celtic players impose themselves on allegedly superior opposition and stop them from playing their usual game, the opposition are poor rather than Celtic being good?

Quite agree BC. The answer is because they have been force fed for years the view that Tims in Scotland are a societal sub-species therefore cannot excel in any field. Ipso facto , any good Celtic performance equals poor opposition. Simple, really .

Good night all. Looking forward to welcoming our Bhoys back to Paradise V St Johnstone on Saturday.

Just scrolling through assorted comments quickly, and the same themes of frustration and bad luck recur, but I’ve not seen anyone mention how pedestrian we were for long periods of the game.

Few, damned few occasions did we play the ball forward quick and decisively, most often opting to take easy, non-threatening possession against a team who were suspect in both full back positions.

A wicked deflection can occur in any game, you can’t play a match hoping it doesn’t happen, as it often does. If you want to win a game of football, you have to jolly well do something that wins games, and too often we elected not to.

    rant aside..

I thought Stokes represented himself well tonight. A mature game (aside his poor finish in the first half).

Central defence looked strong throughout, but we were one light in midfield towards the end of the match, and that cost us both goals.

Tonight’s game overall was simply one more print from Celtic’s pattern in the past decade or so in Italy. We need to wise up.

Balotelli tries to elbow Broonie then crumbles in a heap. Ref was conned.

Thank god someone was watching the game.Ballotelli was elbowing Broony, they came together he dived.WTF can Broony do about that.

  19. That was gut wrenching – we didnt deserve the defeat.

I wish we had a bit more belief – we were at times all over them but the players didnt seem to think we would score/win etc.

    Horrible defeat!

  20. This celtic side will improve . We had players missing tonight too . But oh how i wish we had a wee lubo playing with this group of players. The wee touch of class that can thread a pass that sets up a chance . But we did well tonight imho.
