Milanese mistakes, Sevco Annual Return

705

Milan’s mistake with their Champions League squad – they inadvertently included Stephan El Shaarawy in their restricted A List of players, instead of the B List, denying a place in either list for M’Baye Niang, is welcome news. Their squad is strong, with or without Niang, but the oversight lends credence to the notion that a malaise has settled over the club. Director, Umberto Gandini apologised, but already the Milanese are focused on what they don’t have in their armory as a result of the oversight – an excuse for failure is ready made.

I met the owner of an IT company shortly before they went into liquidation and asked him who he had on his board.  “Are you not on our board too?” was his jocular response.  The company had already gone through a couple of difficult years.  With each passing period investors became increasingly concerned; they all wanted a place around the boardroom table, convinced that their gilt-edged experience would be able to guide the company through its troubles.

The chief exec had to cope not-so-much with a boardroom full of captains of industry (which they were), as another pressure group to satisfy, along with clients, creditors, staff and the bank (they may have been weeks from liquidation, but they still had borrowing, this was not a Metro Bank deposit account-only operation).

The chief exec understood the industry and, left to his own devices, stood a sporting chance at survival, but when the boardroom table became occupied by a parcel of rogues the game was up.

On a completely separate matter, I am delighted at the prospect of Paul Murray and John McClelland having a second shot at being a non-executive director of a football club.  Wikipedia’s definition of the roles of a non-exec is worth a cursory glance to indicate why.  They did so well last time.  The others, who it is proposed will share a place at Newco’s table, also appear perfect for the role.  If only Sir David would come out of retirement and join them.

Will one of the many directors insist that The Rangers Football Club Ltd submits its Annual Return to Companies House? Under its previous name, Sevco Scotland Ltd, The Rangers Football Club Ltd bought liquidation assets from Duff and Phelps, and which, according to Rangers International’ PLC’s interim financial statement in March, was incorporated into the PLC’s group.

The Return is over two months late.  Perhaps, with so many directors available for comment, one will be asked by a journalist or shareholder why the company which bought all the assets has not submitted basic information, revealing ownership details. Perhaps not. No hurry, a striking off notice will be weeks away.

  1. Starry Plough – thinking about you and your loss.

    Also today, remembering John Thompson.

  2. Paul,

excuse my ignorance on these things and perhaps asking obvious questions.

But is it normal practice for a striking off notice to be placed if Annual Return is only a few months late?

By late, I’m presuming this is 2 months in addition to the 10 months to file accounts after their end of year?

Would we expect the return to have the details of who owns the stadium and any floating charges etc held over that?

My gut feeling that they are delaying because they have something to hide feeling ( stating the obvious)

What I’m wondering is whether publising the AR will provide the missing details?

    Thanks in advance.

” the notion that a malaise has settled over the Club .”

Yes ——- that malaise includes there being a dreadful relationship between Berlusconi and the Manager , Massimiliano Allegri .. The latter lives and works with the constant threat of being sacked . .

Yes —–that malaise includes a big fall in attendance . Average attendance at last season’s home CL Group Games was @ 28 k.[Anderlecht / Malaga / Zenit

Yes —–that malaise includes Berlusconi denying that season ticket prices were to be increased and then increasing the prices .

  7. FORMER Hearts midfielder Craig Thomson

was put on a plane back to Scotland after

    his prospective new Cypriot club

discovered he was a convicted sex

    offender.

The former Tynecastle defender had a

    successful trial with second division

outfit AEP Paphos FC and was paraded as

the club’s first new signing of the

    summer.

    However chairman Christos Glykis said

the club decided not to sign the 22-year-

    old.

He told The Cyprus Daily: “This player

did come on trial here but we did not

    sign him.

“To be honest with you, his character

was a bit off and he simply didn’t fit in

with the rest of the squad. He was given

permission to tryout with another team

but that too didn’t work out. I paid for

his ticket to return to Edinburgh and, as

far as I know, he is on his way back to

    Scotland”.

The near signing of Thompson has

    prompted criticism from children’s

    rights campaigners in Cyprus.

    Cyprus Commissioner for Children’s

    Rights, Leda Koursoumba said the

incident pointed to a wider problem of

    abuse throughout the island.

She said: “We cannot lay the blame on

this football club or even the police [for

the player arriving on trial at AEP]. This

is an issue that needs to be addressed at

government level and at the House Legal

Affairs Committee because there are no

laws, like the ones in the UK and other

    European countries, in which sex

    offenders are properly monitored. There

are no laws to protect children from

    predators or potential predators in

Cyprus and that is something that I am

    continuously trying to challenge.

“It is especially vital that people that

have been convicted of sex offences

against minors are kept away from areas

where they may come into contact with

    young children”, added Koursoumba.

“Swimming pools and sports clubs are

such areas where they must be kept

    away.”

  8. When the SMSM kept on saying that there was only 10 Million left in the bank that was to hold the followers at bay, I would lay odds that they will be lucky if there is half that and they are trying to juggle the figures and the can not get anyone to sign them off, that place is a fish bowl now back in the day we wouldn’t have had a sniff at the skulduggery that went on in that place, but now we all sit and watch them trying to get back to where they where, and they still do not get it, it is a (well getting closer to it) level playing field now and you have to play to the rules, you are no longer the people (what ever that was ) and you must abide by the rules same as the rest of us do, until then the rest of us will wait on you catching up on the 21st. Cent. ………Lurking Huns, read it and weep. god Bless Johnny Thomsom, and HAIL HAIL.

  9. Sounds like Milan will have a new manager by the time we play them.Might be best opening fixture we could have got.

    RIP

I know this is a difficult time right now but hopefully soon you’ll be sitting with your family laughing and remembering the good times and the happy memories.

I lost my father this year (only a few weeks ago in fact) but I had no relationship with him for a variety of reasons but like you it is fresh in the memory. The pain and the shock was different but it is never easy so my deepest sympathies and always remember the good times and the special memories.

    Take care pal.

Just watched the manager’s post match (SK) interview.

The man has left McCoist standing. The msm portrayed him as a trouble-making ned from the minute Martin signed him. They whipped up a hate campaign which played a role in several serious incidences.

Neil Lennon has moved on despite this extreme provocation, while his one time rival Glasgow manager has gone backwards.

Fat Sally was never anywhere near Neil Lennon in the management stakes. Neil saw off his rival which was the Myth who walked away under the challenge.

  16. The current manager of Italy – Cesare Prandelli – has stated that he will stand down after the World Cup finals in Brazil next year.

Current speculation lists – at least – six candidates to replace him:

Roberto Mancini (currently unemployed), Luciano Spalletti (Zenit), Claudio Ranieri (Monaco), Antonio Conte (Juventus), Alberto Zacherroni (Japan), and the, apparent, favourite Massimo Allegri (Milan) who has publicly expressed his desire to take the job.

  22. The rule/law prohibiting McLelland and Murray from serving as directors is nothing to do with the SFA. It’s the law of the land. The Stock Exchange regulators will step in.

This will only confirm to thems the depth of the “tim conspiracy” to destroy their club. I’d like to see their contact chart explaining this one.

BTW, who is our resident mole in the Stock Exchange? As sally would say, “Give us the names.”
