Mooy feels like a pivotal decision for season ahead

218

My knowledge of Chinese football since 1979 is limited, and I don’t watch a lot of Brighton or Huddersfield, so I’ll need to bow to Ange Postecoglou’s judgement when it comes to Australian international midfielder, Aaron Mooy.

Mooy was a mainstay in the Huddersfield team that won promotion to the English Premier League, stayed there, then were relegated after two years.  His form won a move to then-EPL side Brighton, where he stayed for two years before the lure of the yuan.

20 games in 18 months in China ended at the turn of the year.  Since then, Mooy has played only internationals, including three games for Australia last month.  The reported one-year deal, with a one year option, for a free transfer, is low risk for the club.

Celtic have cover in the wide positions but central mid is an area where the headcount is down, after the departures of Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic.  Rogic is easier to compensate for in the existing squad, it’s the No. 6 position, where Ange is limited to Callum McGregor and largely untested Yosuke Ideguchi.

Some of us will have a Pavlovian reaction, Mooy is two months older and has the same positional profile as James McCarthy, who signed a year ago but looked short of fitness all season.  There is certainly reason for caution.

Celtic faced a genuine battle for the league last season, and I expect nothing less in the season ahead.  Getting the mix right in central mid is one of my biggest concerns.  This feels like a pivotal decision.

Thanks, Jackiemac. If that’s a welcome to the site, I’ll take it. But….you’ve got my age the wrong way round. Sheesh…

  3. Looks like old firm fc are back on there feet and spending freely . They will make the champions league they know how to play Europe ,and the Player types needed to do it .

  4. Good opening Post Super Fenian,

Don’t expect you to get any flak for that,

I think you are on the money in your assessment, I just hope he gives us a bit of extra dig in midfield and gives Ange more options, there is a lot of football to be played in a crowded Season so we need a big squad.

Thanks Bognorbhoy. Some welcome. Should I double bluff you? Maybe not. Best keep it simple, eh?

  6. Moritz Lens – 6’3 has pace and looks left footed. Does this mean starfelt plays on his favored right side and we see the best of him in a back 3?

Lens looks like an athletic version of Julien – looks like great potential but may need a season to develop.

Happy we signed a defensive minded player – with height!

Gents and true fellow Tim’s …everything our noble club has ever won I can say categorically has been won fairly….and I will take that to my grave…can the supporters ( peepul ) of Sevco say and do likewise ?…unequivocally NO…they have cheated and saught an unfair advantage my whole lifetime (60 years)..and everything they have won is tainted in some way …before I give my main point of evidence I can’t help but comment on the Souness thuggery clip against Hibs …what about that serial cheat McCoists dive for the penalty !!!!…only in Scotland as big Roy would testify …anyway my main point of evidence is the cheats “finest” hour …I defy anyone to watch their full game against Moscow Dynamo in 1972 ( I know it’s a hard watch ..but it’s available on YouTube ) and marvel at how they won the game …and managed to keep 11 men on the park …it is truly incredible ..believe me …and the funny bit is Archie is commentating and yes he is cringing as he comes out with the same apologist observations that he was 15 years later when Souness and The Rangers were up to and getting away with the same blatant thuggery

“Dylan Reid turns down Celtic to stay at St Mirren”

    ——————————

    Shouldn’t that be “snubs Celtic?”

Or are you pulling our legs?😊

  11. No doubt the Huns will now “swoop” for Dylan Reid and we will find out he has a flute tattooed on his arse.

  12. They won once in 9 away from home

They couldnt handle the pressure of being favourite a file champions league qualification. The fans expected to win, and got very jumpy when they realized the importance

Being favourites in such high stakes games doesn’t suit them

Bhoys old firm fc were kents toenail away from winning the europa league . They are a big aggressive team , godvwe don’t need told we witnessed it in the cup semi . They can’t allow us to play football ,so they engage what they can do get stuck in and compete anyway they can , they have the tools to do that .HH

  14. I had a feeling the Undead would draw the Belgians, with the second leg at home.

As for us, I would not be a whit surprised if we draw Madrid, Liverpool and Leverkusen.

That myth has been destroyed many times, the cross ball was out of pitch on the crosd and VAR would have proved it, if evoked.

In all honestly Dylan Reid has done the correct thing for his future .

I don’t know much of him,but if he is building up game experience at St.M,confident in himself that he will get a move eventually I agree with you totally.nowt like playing every game

    Goodnight all.

  18. I’m a wee bit underwhelmed by the up coming signing of Moritz…….he struggled for games for a team finishing 16th !!..their manager doesn’t want him…..hope I’m wrong.. but be pleasantly surprised if he’s a success

A young lad that is gaining SPL experience is far better than the Lowland League for his future .

There are too many players at Celtic not gaining his experience,if you are not knocking the first team door by 19/20 you will be lucky to make it at Celtic HH

I was not aware of that detail , non the less they beat a few big outfits to get to the final , BTW I’m not sticking up for them ,I hate everything about that club . I just feel rightly or wrongly we are entering the top club tournament in the world with a team made up of overly small players , not equipped to combat the big hatchet men they will encounter . Hope to god I’m wrong mate HH
