Moussa, forget Ibrox, concentrate on trip to Brussels

226

We have a lot of football to play between now and our visit to Ibrox in just over two weeks, but perhaps the most important game of the month comes immediately after that match, in Brussels against Anderlecht. Moussa Dembele declaring himself ready to face a team he spent last season punishing in ruthless fashion is welcome, but without being disrespectful to our domestic opponents, a point in Brussels is far more valuable than a win at Ibrox.

Three games, against Hamilton Accies, Ross County and Dundee, stand out as opportunities to get Moussa and Odsonne Edouard match-fit Brussels. We have the opportunity to bury a weak-willed performance there in 2003, when Larsson, Sutton, Hartson etc. went down meekly to 10 men.

The PSG game will take care of itself. We have a punchers chance against an outrageously (and, some allege, illegally) acquired football team. I’ll take our chances against anyone at home, but if we can’t perform in Brussels, nothing we do against PSG will matter.

  1. Pesky Ads on an Apple device

I use Neverads – .Block Ad

On a Microsoft thing -Ad Block / Ad Block Plus.

    Both work perfectly well

Are you booked up for Munich?

Is it the dentist or Methadone Mick who is Pog’s mate?? :))

  3. Adverts would be tolerable if they were less obtrusive and didn’t obscure the page you are wanting to see. What use is it to an advertising agency or company if people rush to install adblockers and turn off javascript in order to get rid completely?

Surely they need a new approach which allows the ads to be visible while at the same time not antagonising their target market.

  4. Methadone Mick played in last Charity game looked decent

    Sure last home game

my mate said we had just passed him going into ground

  5. Given that we’re all reading Paul’s articles, and posting on here for free, and that we know that running the blog costs Paul plenty of time and money already I think its a bit disrespectful to be asking for and giving out instructions that will ensure that CQN gets less income. Especially when it’s from posters who do seem to take advantage of the blog more than most (YES THATS YOU TONYDONNELLY67 :))

If you want to block the ads maybe you should google how to do it and keep it to your self.

  6. I like the ads

  8. 1. The teacher said, “Let’s begin by reviewing some American history.

Who said ‘Give me Liberty, or give me Death’?”

She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Little Hodaiki a bright foreign

exchange student from Japan, who had his hand up: ‘Patrick Henry, 1775′, he

    said.

    Very good

Who said, ‘Government of the People, by the People, for the People, shall

    not perish from the Earth?’

Again, no response except from Little Hodaiki: ‘Abraham Lincoln, 1863′.

‘Excellent!’ said the teacher continuing, ‘let’s try one a bit more

    difficult…’

Who said, ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for

    your country?’

Once again, Hodaiki’s was the only hand in the air and he said:

    ‘John F. Kennedy, 1961′.

The teacher snapped at the class, ‘Class, you should be ashamed of

yourselves, Little Hodaiki isn’t from this country and he knows more about

    our history than you do.’

    She heard a loud whisper: ‘F . . k the Japs,’

‘Who said that? I want to know right now!’ she angrily demanded.

Little Hodaiki put his hand up, ‘General MacArthur, 1945.’

At that point, a student in the back said, ‘I’m gonna puke.’

The teacher glared around and asks, ‘All right! Now who said that!?’

Again, Little Hodaiki said, ‘George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister,

    1991.’

Now furious, another student yelled, ‘Oh yeah? Suck this!’

Little Hodaiki jumped out of his chair waving his hand and shouted to the

teacher, ‘Bill Clinton, to Monica Lewinsky, 1997!’

Now with almost mob hysteria someone said, ‘You little shit. If you say

    anything else, I’ll kill you.’

Little Hodaiki frantically yelled at the top of his voice, “Michael Jackson

to the child witness testifying against him, 2004.’

    The teacher fainted.

As the class gathered around the teacher on the floor, someone said, ‘Oh

    shit, we’re screwed!’

Little Hodaiki said quietly, ‘Ally McCoist, 2012.’

Some of these Celtic blogs are going way over the top with advertisements including here, its way over the top, i’v no problem with anyone making an earner but ffs it getting bang out of order, you can’t read the blogs for adverts, get it sorted ffs.

  10. I think someone on here predicted that we would soon be seeing the beginning of the campaign to have Sevco players in the Scottish team. Sure enough, the BBC site headlined with this today:

” Rangers players can help Scotland, says Ibrox manager Pedro Caixinha ”

Thanks BBH – enjoyed that one.

I will be in Makrygialos in Crete on Tuesday next week. Is there a football pub there, preferably a Celtic one, that might be showing the CL game ? Thanks in advance.

  12. Tim Malone Will Tell on

    HEADTHEBALL

You are spot on – motivating people to install ad blocker is self defeating for the advertiser – plus the nuisance factor probably damages rather than enhances their ‘brand’.

However, I am not sure who the real culprit is. Some adverts pay out on ‘click throughs’ – so it could be argued that a page design that almost entraps you to click through to the advertisers site is one way to make money.

I am sure our host is an honest man (and I really mean that) – but I am not sure if the blog page design is ‘pre-packaged’ and lends itself to abuse? Certainly, an unrequested advert that covers the entire PC screen seems to be in no-ones interest.

  13. If Bayern and PSG play as they can they will take maximum points off us and Anderlecht, that is our worst case scenario, but we can still qualify for the europa with two points, crazy as it seems, but a 0-0 at home and 1-1 away will see us in the europa, but four points against the Belgians and three from the Germans and the French will do for me :-)

    Ten is preferable to two.

  14. Hunderbirds are Gone on

When the seagulls follow the caravan, it is because they heard the dogs barking.

    Well somebody’s barkin’

  15. DD

This is another non story to try and give them some relevance, nothing on tax evasion even now.

  16. Dessy

Michael O’Halloran is the only one I can think, may help Scotland. :)

Pedro has lost all credibility. Long may he reign.

My da would be more use to the Scotland team. He had a below-knee amputation about 7 years ago.

  18. Re: ads etc.

I use loads of websites that have adverts – but the crucial thing is that they don’t get in the way of the user experience. Some newspapers are behind a paywall – I don’t sign up. Of course Paul67 needs to cover the costs of running the site. I’d be much happier to pay a small fee for use of CQN than endure the frustration of being unable to read the site at places where I cannot block Java or use Adblocker.

However, I appreciate that many people would not want to pay for a service like CQN. There’s lots of Celtic forums out there. So perhaps – keep the ads but try to ensure they don’t prevent users from seeing content? Issue for the website admins….

  19. mild mannered Pedro delgado on

I always, well ,in actual , fact never get results with that

  20. DD, not booked for Munich yet as I have not sourced a ticket to date. Have been checking out flights etc though. Trust you are well, it’s hell here in Crete at the moment, well damned hot anyway!

Jimmy Bones, I’m here for the PSG game also, but in Gouves. The Annfield Bar just nearby has been recommended for the match. Not sure if that is anywhere near where you are.

iPad user, “Adblock Plus” and “NeverAds” in the App Store, downloaded months ago, works a treat. Cannot understand why your iPad is telling you it is incompatible.

Solution, treat yourself to the new iPad and install the above…you can afford it with all these bets you got up…:)

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

In case I’d missed anything.(you know, you’d flounced etc!)

Best wishes in your new home.

  24. TONYDONNELLY67 –
