Mubarak brings echoes of another adamant player

1779

Occasionally an innocuous comment left here can stay with you for years.  The day following the 2005 defeat in Bratislava someone wrote, “I suspect we’ll find an injury in Nakamura’s fitness test”.  The player was scheduled to sign imminently, but with Champions League income looking unlikely, doubts emerged that Celtic would pay the money.

Soon others expressed doubts that Shunsuke would want to come, but within 48 hours of that defeat, he was sitting in front of the media at Celtic Park.  I was there, among a gaggle of Japanese and Scottish journos, when one of the locals asked why the prospect of being without European football didn’t put him off.

Shunsuke handled the question perfectly, “I am not here for six games of football, I have signed for Celtic and hope to play here for many years.”  Rumour has it that not everyone in the dressing room back then was equally as enthusiastic about life in Glasgow.

I’ve heard lots about Wakaso Mubarak in recent weeks, he appears to be a genuine talent, as well as being spirited.  What is most appealing about him is that he wants to be here.  This deal would not have happened if the player was not absolutely committed to coming to the club, and making his stay a success.

Back in August 2005 we didn’t know what we were getting with Naka, and I’m not going to burden Wakaso with a comparison to a player who turned out to be a transformational legend, but we need players with big personalities who can walk into the dressing room with the determination to be there, just as Naka did.

Welcome to Celtic, Wakaso.  Be yourself and you’ll love Glasgow; Glasgow will love you too.

Apart from their casual element (who seemed to be banned from Stamford Bridge, and controlled by plod, albeit at great expense) most of the Chelsea fans I met were friendly enough. The whole hun link thing’s a myth.

  7. Forget all this referendum talk.

Celtic have brought in millions in recent player sales but people seem to forget that they have spent a hell of a lot on utter rubbish.

Who is responsible for buying the likes of Balde, Bangura, Pukki, Boerigter etc?

These guys are rank and we should have known it.

I met an ajax supporter last year on holiday and when I told him we had bought Boerigter for £3 million he pissed himself laughing. The guy is rubbish and always injured, he told me.

How come our scouting system couldn’t see that?

I know who I blame for the diddies we have bought. …….and it isn’t Peter Lawwell!!

I know a couple of them myself. A guy I used to work with, who coached youth football (and was the first person ever to say to me “Islam Feruz … WOW!” oddly enough, cause he taught him), is a big Chelsea man and an absolute gem.

It’s Der Peepil and their traveling horde who would have latched on to that tie like a virus, and all the brethren it would have attracted from the sewers of the EDL, that would have made it a powderkeg tie.

  11. Ernie there was a video posted on here with Chelsea and the old Rangers fc fans singing in some European city pub ,cant remember where but I think they are cut from the same cloth.

    Scepovic accept the Celtic offer

the Serbian has accepted the conditions offered by the Celtic and within hours the Sporting made official the transfer of the player . After two days of negotiations, Scepovic and Scottish side have reached an agreement .

Stefan Scepovic will not return to training with Atletico. This afternoon is scheduled a session in which , predictably, the striker will not participate. According to El Comercio account , Atletico has given its approval to the contract offer the Scots. Although not yet official , the agreement was made public over today.

  16. For the first part of this blog – re the article:-

I couldn’t care less if Paul is a mouthpiece for the board etc or not, that’s HIS problem. I’m just grateful that there is a blog where we can express our opinions – even if so called “die hards” call anyone who questions the board; the manager at the time or DDs decisions huns or trolls – when in reality they probably love Sevco more than most of the fans who are p****d off.

After reading the opinions on the blogs AFTER the Maribor fiasco (and the Liegia “performances”). – 3 points:-

1- Green Man you’re NOT alone , it’s all about the bigot pound etc. It’s been mentioned that moneyball etc was going well then became a failure after Wanyama, Hooper, Wilson etc were all sold but not effectively replaced (except for VVD).

Wasn’t this not long after liquidation turned Rangers into Sevco? Someone mentioned earlier Sevco’s secrerianism preventing our entry into a “better league” SPOT ON.

DD and PL wanted both Celtic and the old Rangers into the EPL. When Rangers became Sevco the EPL wouldn’t take Celtic on their own – that’s when reality hit DD and PL – hence the DOWNSIZING. Once they realised that entry to the EPL was NEVER going to happen without a STRONG Rangers(even Sevco)their thinking became – What’s the point in spending money to compete in the CL when the EPL won’t let us in, we’ll just keep doing enough to win the SPL / SPFL and wait ’till Rangers get back into the (now) SPFL, THEN try to get back in to the EPL etc. Noticed how PL hasn’t TALKED about the EPL for 1 year – 18 months now – it used to be his FAVOURITE topic. Hence the inevitable DOWNSIZING.

2- Someone mentioned about NFL, Johan and Garry Parker(?) using moneyball to get Hooper, Wanyama etc THEN the new scouting system under John Park getting so many “duds” – SPOT ON and again no coincidence that this happened just AFTER Celtic having the SPL all to themselves and NO CHANCE of getting into the EPL etc. First Johan then Neil realised ALL OF THIS and left.

3- The situation is going to get WORSE before it gets better.

When you TOTALY UNDERMINE the foundations of a large building etc NO AMOUNT of rebuilding will succeed – only result in the new building etc COLLAPSING again. NEW FOUNDATIONS have to be laid BEFORE ANYTHING can be built again.

New Major Shareholder, CEO, Chairman and Manager required ASAP.

Now before Kojo comes along saying who can do any better – Dear Kojo, I DO’NT CARE WHO replaces them – I know it has to be done, otherwise in 3 – 4 years time we’ll ALL be discussing this again once Celtic is in Crisis again because the foundations are STILL ROTTEN, and you dear Kojo will STILL be advising the current Manager on which players are BRAMMERS, which are NOE CELTIC STANDARD and which are being played out of position while still saying Lawwell knows best – trust him.

Someone mentioned on an earlier blog NOT to buy the season tickets until AFTER the CL Qualifiers, another mentioned boycotting the EL Home games – BOTH SPOT ON.

I’m so sick of seeing the Club I’ve supported for 47 years (Since a certain Cup win in 1967 when I was 4)reduced to an also ran now only Europa League Standard if that.

Before I get – “but it was worse in the 80’s” or “at least we’re noe deid” I can’t remember this Club being THAT embarrassing in the 80’s. We may have been struggling in Scotland to the point where most team’s supporters (especially Sevco’s) were saying how “shit” we were BUT we were still “respected” in most of the world’s eyes. Now after this month’s debacle we are now an EMBARASMENT, in Europe’s eyes at least.

DD and PL in particular have taken this GREAT CLUB from being Britain’s FIRST European Cup winners to Scotland’s (and probably Europe’s) First club to get KNOCKED OUT of the same European competition TWICE,so – if this sort of s**t had happened to me personally I’d say NO I’d rather be deid than a f*****g embarrassment.

Kojo and others have said PL is only DDs mouthpiece – THAT I agree with so I’d lay most of the blame at the door of DD.

Having said that it may (or may not) interest you CQNers to know that just before I logged on and typed this a well known paper had the following poll within a section on Wakaso’s arrival at CP.

WHO do you hold responsible for Celtic’s current predicament?

    Ronny Deila

The Celtic Board and Peter Lawwell

    Former Boss Neil Lennon

    Majority Shareholder Dermot Desmond

    The Players

    Vote Now.

After being surprised that seeing that PL had been included with the board and not on his own or along with DD I decided to vote for DD, The current votes came back as follows:-

Ronny Deila – 17% (Kojo will be happy as Heidi)

The Celtic Board and Peter Lawwell – 49%

Former Boss Neil Lennon – 8%

Majority Shareholder Dermot Desmond – 3%

    The Players – 23%

Having checked that it came to 100% AND double checked that DD had only 3% – all I could think was hmmmmmmmmmmm.

    CFC not PLC

Downsizing Lawwell…… but after DD has gone

  17. Great news if it becomes official. YouTube not always reliable but he looks a handful .

Saw a comment on OFOG that mr Lawwell is being interviewed by the BBC tomorrow . Anyone know if that is true? Hope he has a word for their Legia Warsaw obsession

    Scepovic accepts the offer Celtic

Sporting ‘s top scorer during the last campaign will be formally decoupled from Atletico to start a new journey in his career in Scotland

Stefan Scepovic has finally accepted the offer submitted Glasgow Celtic , negotiated by Mariano Aguilar, Juanma López partner, new Serbian agent, who signed with the Scottish side for the next four seasons . So they reported it by telephone in the last hours Sporting. The transfer of the player, expected to be made official during the day today .

  22. I used to go to the occasional Chelsea game. A very small , National Front element of their support had a liking for the Hun. The vast majority of their support were not remotely interested in Scottish Football.
