My only flag’s a Celtic flag

492

I get that football thrives where it is a manifestation of tribalism. Across Europe and beyond club flags offer people more affinity with than any national emblem.

But, with one or two exceptions, it’s a largely innocuous brand. We get to wear tribal garb and indulge in our rituals without onerous economic consequence. The echo from the Great Recession, which we are still hearing today, has been a lesson in what can happen when a tribe perceives that its relative position has diminished.

That perception often bears absolutely no relation to reality, but widespread economic illiteracy makes us look like a primitive animals.

My only flag’s a Celtic flag.  You are my only tribe.

I never even knew the election was today, more to the point I couldn’t give a funkeys who won but had to laugh when I seen the result, and had to go through the yanks meeja channels to enjoy theirs hock and pain, and it was palpable, now we have the trumpet in the whitehouse I expect Petec to be even more vocal, the end is nigh I tells ya, woe is we

Hillary Clinton was political correctness personified.

    Nauseatingly so.

That`s the principle reason ( imho ) why she was rejected.

Her concession speech , entreating the ” little girls ” out there to think of themselves as ” valuable.”

Presumably not the ones in the womb.

I think your 7:16 post was in response to Greenpinata.

I suppose where you start defines things, but yip, it was a landslide.

No, it depends on whether you chose to use the term correctly or not.

A landslide is different to an upset. Trump’s victory was not a landslide.

Ernie, the latest projection is 308 to 232 for Trump – pretty much a landslide.

Disappointed with much of the words used to describe those who voted for Trump.

    Gullible, racist, rednecks, fools.

This was a democratic election, with some 60 million Americans voting for him.

I don’t live in the US. My kids aren’t schooled there. I don’t pay tax there (insert Trump joke), I don’t have US health insurance.

Do I really have the right to criticise? Are Scots the experts when it comes to elections? Our recent track record is pretty patchy!

Personally, I wouldn’t have voted Trump – though the scathing words coming from much of the US media is perhaps a clue as to where the democrats went wrong.

Clinton actually won the popular vote :) 59 M to the trumpets 57M

  8. I am hoping that a debate on the difference between `landslide` and ` upset` is an indication that the Presidential Election posts on CQN will soon be at an end.

As it stands Clinton has just under 204,000 more votes than Trump but that is expected to change when all votes are in and he will be ahead in the popular vote as well.

We were talking about share of the popular vote.

It seems Clinton received more votes than Trump.

    So, not a landslide.

Maybe an indictment of the concept of the electoral college, but not a landslide.

  12. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    VFR..

Who exactly is expecting the popular vote to go Trumps way ?

Are you quoting figures from the same clowns that told us Clinton would win by a landslide ?

  13. Stairheedrammy on

Greenpinta, if Brexit was a sign of a knowledgeable electorate how come the 3 amigos who led the campaign bolted as soon as the result came in and they realised their campaign lies were about to be put to the test. Do you know if any of the leading Brexit campaigners actually had any plans of what to do once they had won? An electorate open to magical promises.

As with our electoral system, it’s not based upon the popular votes but a seats/collegiate system and the indications are that will be a landslide. That’s the only effective measure that counts.

That’s not meant to be a semantic argument, but a real assessment of the situation.

It also looks that Trump could win the overall popular vote. The differential either way in the popular vote is likely to be less than 0.1% though.

I didn’t realise we were talking about the popular vote, I thot it was the expectation from the polls.

Anyways, the popular vote really disny matter, the likes of New York and Calafornia are predominatly Democrat, and there is a massive population in those two states, so the popular vote really disny equate at the end of the day.

There is less than 204,000 more votes for Clinton. 2 of the remaining 3 states are most likely to be called Republican (16 and 11 Votes) and 1 for Clinton (4 Votes) so the bulk of the popular vote their goes to Trump which may very well give him a popular lead over Clinton, though neither will have 50% of the popular vote.

It will be less than 100,000 votes (less than 0.1%) difference between them.
