My only flag’s a Celtic flag

492

I get that football thrives where it is a manifestation of tribalism. Across Europe and beyond club flags offer people more affinity with than any national emblem.

But, with one or two exceptions, it’s a largely innocuous brand. We get to wear tribal garb and indulge in our rituals without onerous economic consequence. The echo from the Great Recession, which we are still hearing today, has been a lesson in what can happen when a tribe perceives that its relative position has diminished.

That perception often bears absolutely no relation to reality, but widespread economic illiteracy makes us look like a primitive animals.

My only flag’s a Celtic flag.  You are my only tribe.

  1. How do the polls manage to get so so wrong ?

Could it be they were not genuine – just another establishment tool used to influence the vote much like the media. The BBC were sick as parrots last night . As would all the warmongering cabal.

It is probably accurate enough. He gained around 50% of the vote yet only 29% of the Latino vote, for instance. If he’s losing heavily in one demographic,it’s obvious that he has to make that up from another demographic.

Polls are used very much as a tool, tell folks someone is so far a head they won’t bother voting for the one trailing, it works much of the time.

    Bamboo,

Plpolls are used to try and influence people, you be surprised by the numbers who vote to be on the winning side rather than policy, some take sport too far, sport has no place in politics :)

MEN who love the films of Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal are responsible for Trump’s election victory, it has emerged.

An unusually high voter turnout among people whose favourite films are Missing in Action, Death Wish 2 or Lone Wolf McQuade is believed to have sealed America’s fate.

Trump voter Wayne Hayes said: “I believe masculine 80s action films, featuring a foreign baddie and one sex scene shot in silhouette, are the pinnacle of cinema and a template for how to live.

“I particularly like it if they have a paranoid theme, like Invasion USA. I’ve even written a script called Blood Hunter II: Midnight Revenge Attack about a former POW killing gang members with his metal hand.

“He has a dog called Maverick that wears an eye patch.”

He added: “They should show Under Siege in schools, because if you’re a chef on a big boat and it’s attacked by terrorists, you need to be able to save the sexy woman.”

A guy on the box was just explaining that.

He said the Trump punters were so disenfranchised with the whole political system that they refused to engage with the Pollsters thinking they were part of the same political establishment .

So the Donald’s vote was always understated.

DESPITE not taking office until January of next year, President elect Donald Trump has revealed the first executive order he will issue when he takes power.

“I know this is an issue close to the American people’s heart, believe me, so I’ll be making marrying your beautiful daughter legal. It’s going to be great, we’ll have the best incest, believe me,” an emotional Trump declared.

Trump surprised political commentators who expected his first act in office to be something he pledged to do during his campaign such as the wholesale rounding up of Muslim Americans, a $6 billion tax cut for the wealthy or the punishment of women who have abortions.

“We’re going to incest bigly. This is my number one priority America, no one has more respect for the bond between a father and his more attractive of two daughters,” beamed the soon to be president, who had as recently as last week stated the right to free speech, as outlined in the US constitution, could do with some changing.

Insiders close to Trump sought to reassure some of his supporters, stating that he would waste no time in Making America Great Again.

“We understand people’s passion for having their fortunes turned around by a president who pledged to bring jobs back, but he also wants to make people as equally vulnerable as you suffer first, so please be patient,” a Trump aide explained.

Ivanka Trump was unavailable for comment as she was last seen fleeing for the Canadian border.

Trump is a salesman , a self publicist and a showman.

    And smart.

He knew exactly how to get attention.

Say something controversial. Every controversial statement he made fed in to the hopes and fears of the majority .

Illegal immigration. Health insurance fees. Muslim terrorism. Job losses. Perceived alienation of the mainstream. AND the focus on the interests of minorities .

He knows how to play the media game.

Betcha he will now change roles to statesman.

Image will change , speech and language will be moderated .

    The ranting will stop.

  19. The pollsters seem to have been about 2-3% out in their predictions, in terms of votes cast.

So not wildly wrong and maybe within their normal margin of error.

The error seems to have been how the popular vote would be translated into electoral college points.

  20. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Ernie…l

What have you been told about using statistics :)

The pollsters were miles out, if you look at the popular vote in the states with the biggest switch then they were miles and miles out. The polls did not predict a such a swing in previously safe democrat states and they are the ones that mattered most.

You are still waffling on about the popular vote and you are still ignoring the fact that NY state and California, who are hugely democratic voting, they have massive populations that sway the popular vote big time, take them out of the equation and she lost by a landslide :-)
