My only flag’s a Celtic flag

492

I get that football thrives where it is a manifestation of tribalism. Across Europe and beyond club flags offer people more affinity with than any national emblem.

But, with one or two exceptions, it’s a largely innocuous brand. We get to wear tribal garb and indulge in our rituals without onerous economic consequence. The echo from the Great Recession, which we are still hearing today, has been a lesson in what can happen when a tribe perceives that its relative position has diminished.

That perception often bears absolutely no relation to reality, but widespread economic illiteracy makes us look like a primitive animals.

My only flag’s a Celtic flag.  You are my only tribe.

    Interesting developments in the US.

Thousands appear to be taking to the street in protest at Trump’s election.

    Oh dear.

    Mexican flags no doubt .

So much for Hillary`s unity request.

Too little. Too late , Hill .

You released the genie during the campaign .

  4. I read in a U.K. Newspaper this am that riots were breaking out across America. It was actually a few stoned individuals in CA lighting fires. Similarly tonight, it’s in Democratic strongholds that we are seeing protests. The democratic process was followed and Trump won fair and square. It’s going to be an interesting 4 years. We are dealing with a few bad losers. Nothing more.

Lets see how it pans out.

    Don`t judge on early days.

I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

  9. I bet you all thought you had seen the back of me after the personal attacks on my vote for Donald Trump, President elect.

I have been called out as gullible. An idiot and I see the mood hasn’t changed reading back today.

There seems to be an intellectual snobbery that dismisses religious and social concerns and ignores the concerns of the working people here.

Significantly it was Pennsylvania that pushed Trump over the line.

For anyone who doesn’t know the state, it’s a cross section of America.

Two large city conglomerations 300 miles apart at either side of the state , with many rural and small town communities in between.

The cities, particularly Philly, are largely democratic leanings. The rural areas which include many ex mining and steel towns which have suffered from a combination of regulation and job exports.

I happened to attend mass on Sunday in a democrat leaning area and I had a conversation with a pro life activist after mass distributing voters guides to attendees.

If you’ve read anything I’ve written recently, I know I might scroll past as well, you will deduce we shared the same beliefs.

He was of the opinion that PA was in play for Trump for the first time in years.

Union workers were unenthusiastic about HRC. She was seen as an untrustworthy, self interested candidate who thought laws and rules did not apply to her or her family.

Unlike Trump who was holding multiple packed rallies across the rust belt, she was spending her time at Wall St or Hollywood fundraisers when she should have been meeting voters, instead of relying on her surrogates.

For myself and many Catholics, including even some of the spineless Church hierarchy, her position on late term abortion is anathema.

Her financing from Panned Parenthood and pushing grants to them in return is an obvious conflict of interest.

Families are struggling over the costs of the disastrous Obamacare law, preferring to pay fines and risk their health coverage rather than pay the unaffordable premiums.

So this is my “idiotic and gullible” view of the binary choice faced by voters, and I’m proud that I voted for Trump, hoping and praying it can save countless innocent unborn lives and allow orders like the Little Sisters of the Poor to practise their health care vocations without compromising their faith,

TBH,I never have issues with any individual about how they cast their vote. I think that applies to most on here.

If,however, you state your voting intention to others, you shouldn’t be too surprised when not everyone shares your point of view.

However,a passionate and intelligent précis of your reasons, for which I applaud you. I won’t applaud your vote, but that’s just how it goes!

    Well said mate.

In an earlier post ( WEEMAN, I think), strongly stated about kicking out immigrants, building walls etc etc in his America?

Now I’m a simple man and there is much I don’t understand, but isn’t that much the same Americans criticisms that for years and years that Americans have levelled at other nations such as Russia, China, North Korea etc, etc. ?

I sincerely hope that Im wrong but I can’t help feeling that even at peaceful protests against Trump ( which are happening as I post), some Trump gun nut will open up on the protesters ?

I DO hope I’m wrong on that , but I fear the worst. It was only last Sunday on the Andrew Marr show, that the creep known as Nigel Farage was predicting social unrest in Britain on the streets should Brexit be delayed etc ?

Big talk from a wee phannie who couldn’t fight sleep IMO ( Hitler,Goebbels, Himmler anyone ?), but nevertheless, nutters like Farage are more than happy to let others doing their dirty work for them ( Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler ?).

Trump has already stated in many occasions how his victory was ” A Brexit many times multiplied”. Therefore it’s safe to assume that like Britain, should anyone protest against Trump in the streets of America, we can all expect social unrest there too, only those against even the most peaceful protesters will be toting guns ?

A poster on here earlier ( based in America), stated that he would be looking out for cqnrs on here who are against Trump, should they ever try to step foot in the USA ?

I was just curious how he plans to do that ? Answers on the back of a stamp !

Should Trump tone down his pre election threats, how is that going to sit with his supporters who voted for him on the back of his promises on a wall, immigration etc ?

Are they prepared to cause social unrest if Trump doesn’t deliver his pre election promises ?

Like here, many Brexiters who voted on the lies of Farage Boris Johnson etc etc , are angry at the thought of the full monty of Brexit not being implemented.

    Dangerous times indeed.

    Big Jimmy,

It’s very strange to be aligned with macjay our very own fascist on this but here goes

You open discussion on the Trumpets “pre-election threats” which ones are you worried about ?

The threat to introduce tougher regulation on the markets and Wall Street ?

The threat to completely change foreign policy by making

The threat to pull out of illegal wars in foreign nations ?

The threat who work with Putin against terrorism ?

The threat to work in trade partnership rather than dictatorship with anyone willing ?

Now I’m not gullible enough to believe any of that tosh but actually making these threats public highlights that they are issues that need to be addressed, something none of the previous whitehouse incumbents were willing to even consider.
