New contracts for some but not all

181

Matt O’Riley had recently turned 21 when he joined Celtic from MK Dons in January 2022.  He was an immediate success, before form shaded a tad, in particular when Ange Postecoglou varied midfield combinations.

This season he has started all five competitive games, with performances eclipsing anything seen before.  He is still young with plenty of improvement potential, so it’s no surprise Celtic have opened talks to extend his contract beyond its current 2026 date.

With Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda and Kyogo all in receipt of recent contract renewals, and negotiations underway with Matt and Reo Hatate, it’s clear the club have decided wage levels needed to rise to head-off disruption.

All good and well but there’s one noticeable absence from these names.  Concerns about his fitness will exist until we hear the club have offered a new deal to the big guy.

  1. Gene hope your better half gets well soon. Everything else pails. Look after yourself too.

Lawell in a powerful position in Eufa that’s got to be bad for Celtic right. I think I might just come out as an official Lawell fan, great Celtic man, achieved more for Celtic than anyone on CQN just being real, and go the All Blacks 🏉

So you endorse a executive member of a PLC, the CEO, who stood up at a AGM and lied that he never read a 5wa email.

Fair enough, under any other PLC , you would be dismissed!

  3. Prestonpans the executive will act in the best interest of the PLC. You don’t always get to see every angle. I have zero knowledge of what goes on in the Celtic board but I know that we had 9 titles in row, 4 , yes four trebles in a row not counting last years , got one wrong and now going for three. A generation of dominance which has created an sense of entitlement in some, that I struggle with, the new club sevco operating out of Ibrox, with a similar size fan base and similar potential revenue won 1 in row, yer man must have done something right, and I have no doubt about his Celtic credentials, haters will be haters. Hail Hail.

  4. When the huns call Peter Lawwell, Liewell then we know he has to have done something positive for us.

Of course some of us have a history of trashing our own. Fergus, John Harston, Pat Bonner, NFL et al.

I’m no hater and thanks for the slur!

I merely stated a fact, that has been well documented in these pages.

    Have a good day, cheerio….

  6. Prestnpans apologies I wasn’t directing that to you personally, I have been on here long enough to read screeds of hate on Lawwell, just making a point, sorry if yi7 thought it was aimed at you, you made a point, you didn’t get personal, but many do,

For a Rangers man Murdo is obsessed with Celtic, I’ve no doubt his final words before he goes to his eternal reward will be, ‘but what about Celtic?’

Decades ago when FOI was coming in the public sector organisation I worked for (like many) was fretting.

    Frets mainly around two themes

    1. Admin effort for loads of requests

    2. Reputational damage.

    Re #2 ….

Majority of requests came from hacks and politicians who wanted to use responses as a “BOOM” for their headlines or paper waving speeches in parliament respectively.

We simply created new section on organisation website ….

…. and quietly published the formal response.

Everyone saw it at the same time.

Singular ownership of response (and therefore element of surprise) both removed at a stroke.

    Pulled their teeth.
