New, social, CQN, Elvis is dead!

And we’re back!  What a two days of systems nightmare.  We went down at 7pm on Thursday.  No conclusive information on why, we have had traffic volume related outages before, but this was on a more serious and persistent basis. We had to move the database to a new location and restore from backup to recover, we lost a few days articles. Better not speak to me about Fasthosts for a while.

We got access to the databases this morning and took the opportunity to upgrade facilities in the background.  We’re on a new incarnation of WordPress and now have Facebook and Twitter integration.  Good news is you can link your Celtic Quick News account with your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts, and share information from CQN to your social network timeline.

To do so:
Login to Celtic Quick News.
Cick on your name at the top of the Comments box to access your profile.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to access the Facebook and Twitter links.
Update your profile.

You will then see a Share link beside your comments.

Should we be Celtic Slow News for today?  Here it is:

Rennes 1-1 Celtic.
Hugely important second half performance and Joe Ledley goal.
Your favourite billionaire is getting divorced and has claimed he has no money!  Oh dear.
One year on, the SFA are still smoking out religiously offensive correspondents!
The Berlin Wall fell and I hear Elvis is dead.

Have a try at the Facebook and Twitter links and let me know what you think of it.  I’m off for a break but will catch up later.

Most importantly, there is a Celtic fan called Andrew who will be walking about Belfast in a daze this weekend.  If you see him, but him a beer.

Tom English got the gig with Craig Whyte because of hiss “previous” obsequious behaviour. He’s an easier journo to grant favours to than would be

Spiers & keevins- huns hate them

Traynor or Chico- too strongly identified with Murray

Gibbons/ McCarra- too highbrow and Timmy

Tom English knows and accepts the limitations. He will gladly accept the brush offs to his polite enquiries on the Rangers downside because, in exchange, he gets fulsome and controversial copy from Whyte on what Whyte does want to talk about- his perceived enemies.

David Frost and Louis Theroux used similar techniques of presenting as hapless and harmless, lobbing easy questions, and getting the respondent to relax, feel he is in complete charge of the interview direction, and let them nail themselves from their garrulous replies.

Craig Whyte is either stupid or desperate to hasten dowwn the wind.

Tom English is an Irish journo on the make in Scotland, prepared to swallow any faeces in order to get copy that provokes chatter. This approach worked for him today.

get them tae cukf… they are a pariah……

we will move on to pastures new in due course….. money will dictate that……..

there will be a new format for euro football within the next 5 to 10 years, put the kettle on for it, and we WILL be a part of it, of that i have no doubt.

Celtic ARE big and highly regarded in footballing circles, regardless of what we are told by our media.

We will be and deserve to be up with th Barcas ManUs etc if for fan base alone.

There will be a better footballing structure in the future..

And if we can make it there without that disgusting stinking division from across the water then do it…. and do it now

“as much as sftb has faith that the board will not assist the hun,”

To be precise, I am confident that they will not VOTE in public to assist the hun (What they get up to in back-door dealing is anyone’s guess)

Hell hath no fury like a PR company scorned !!!

Add to that the confused old poodles who do not know where to place their allegiances….cognitive dissonance and all that…

is murray, johnston, bain or whyte the bad guy ?

Of course Rangers WILL need to let BBC in because they are an official spl media partner.

None of it helps us win more games but it shouldnt help them either……..

It does feel like panto season coming early……but this soap opera will run and run and run……the slow agonising death is even more enjoyable as one by one by one the less intelligent of their followers finally ‘smell the coffee’ or whatever it is.

  5. Why are folks talking rubbish about celtic voting on league changes to support a newly formed rangers ?

Where has this garbage come from ?

Please less of this hypothetical nonsense on here. It will not happen, why should it ? There is no precident or sporting rationale….

    End of story.

Broadly my analysis of English…not so sure about Whyte ..yet.

I have an acquaintance who is a pretty successful commercially in Scotland (oil related) he is as big a hun as you can get, box at Ibrox, personal sponsor of a player, etc (yes MWD – his box at New Year!) anyhow at the go-get he seemed to know Whyte was a charlatan …and has no doubt that Whyte has only ever wanted to file for administration/liquidation and essentially asset strip….who knows (given previous form) what Whyte is taking out of RFC right now before Tax case is settled?

I think this explains why the media are out to get him – they see somebody ready to sell out their club.

Life in the WOS is all about Celtic and Rangers.

However in these dark days of depression and Tory cuts

working class people need to remember what unites them

    and not divides them.

We’ve more in common with our foes than you think.

Never really knew much about TE, what I had read wasn’t up to much, but what he did today was imo good stuff, he got a scoop.

Fair play to him, whytie obviously thought that he had him wraped around his finger, wrong, so far wrong, that interview will give the right thinking media food for manys a time.

Frost, Theroux, not in the same breath as uncle Tom im afraid, but at least he tried.

As for whytie, I don’t think he is stupid, he is a chancer that has embarked on an adventure that is way, way outwith his control, he is a patsy, he will get well paid for his troubles, and minty’s reputation will be saved, the hun support will turn on him soon enough, when the media will blame him for not trying to save the club.

    Me, I canny wait……

Agreed and the Membership Scheme is the start of the process of pulling the many different states and faces in the Celtic nation together.

  10. if R****** go down to votes etc, what makes anyone think our board would spend money to be top dog in this league> they have not spent in years so why in future? when closest rival is in stook financially. Get real they will not spend and probably in honesty if they want to just stay in SPL would not need to. Not saying we would win every year but would the board want to.

  11. Gordon64

I don’t care mate, I honestly don’t. I’ve struggled for so many years to go and watch Celtic, financially and emotionally, but I would never swap it.

I remember when all my grant money went on buying tickets and paying weekly totes and people I studied with laughed cos I couldnt afford to go into the town or head to the dancing when I’d come back from Aberdeen etc. I then saw one of these diddies on a documentary, talking with authority about Celtic after Fergus took over. I was sickened.

Give me a pishy league with 25,000 real Tims any day mate.

  12. Gordon64

“Would we be stronger in a league with little or

    no oppositon. ”

A loaded question but, I agree that we should be confident of staying ahead of other SPL clubs for a couple of years after the Hun Admin event.

However, Celtic cannot buy ALL the good players, so there will be some playing for other clubs just as conzaloni said at 0.33. There will continue to be cup upsets and it would take an unlikely combination of 5 or more years of total domination before fans got blase or satiated. By which time, anyway, the hun will have become competitive again or the minis or AN other in Scottish football will have strengthened enough to become our rivals.

It is hard to tire of continuous success (our dissatisfaction with WGS’s 3iar notwithstanding, as it had other roots) and I predict we could have a decade or more of regular winning before we complain, as the huns did in the mid 90’s, that we need other competitive settings

  13. JimmyQuinnsBits on

The more you watch this pantomime – its the only one I’ve enjoyed – the more you’ve got to conclude that Whyte was either brought in, or seized upon, by the bank and Murray as the person to take the huns to the inevitable. The fact the bank more or less told AJ to accept the deal is telling.

I’m mightily hacked off tho, at the real possibility that they’ll go into admin and emerge debt free. How can this work, surely HMRC will force sales of all assets – including players and the stadium – before any new club can emerge?

  14. BelfastCityCelt on

JimmyQuinnsBits – Brilliant to see ye back on form mo chara.

Good buzz about the place tonight, and it’s a CELTIC buzz so it is..!

We are going to win this title Bhoys,of that i am convinced. And i don’t want to count my chickens – but it is a distinct possibility that we will win the treble.

Do the damage the mara,no worries on that score – but it is also vital that we win on Wednesday night.

Also we will qualify in the Europa,i reckon – win the two home games – our last game is away in Italy – they are safely through,so they won’t be trying that much against us.

    It’s our time now Lenny,the winner…

  15. Whatever happens to them, they will exist in some form or another, its up to us to “put them in their place” as per Chris Sutton.

Just as well I’m not on charge at Celtic because my line to the other clubs would be “agree to whatever reasonable changes we think are required

    OR

    We quit Scottish Football.”

    ________________

An admirable stance – but an unlikely scenario. With a £36M+ wage bill and running costs – we can’t just pick up the ball and say: We’re no playing – tuck the ball under our arm and head off home for our tea!

We can serve notice but unless we have an exit strategy – idle threats are pointless.

A CH67 TV deal (if we were prepared to make a substantial investment in it) could be the carrot for the other teams (if they were minus them) to vote with us.

We finance and run it – we pay the other clubs @25%+ what they get now – cover one other match a week (not involving us) – provide a highlights package and a weekly club slot for them.

It would be down to us to sell it/ market it to other providers – a costly carrot that might be feasible. Who would underwrite it – DD?

CFC need to come up with something radical – other than the tiresome threat of quitting Scotland!

  17. I see the dilema of all dilemas is being touted this evening – what to do if Rangers dissolve and become Phoenix Rangers ?

This was always a potential end game, whereby Rangers need Scottish Football to do them a rule-bending favour to maintain their status as an SPL club. I think most people can see financial consequences for all SPL clubs if Rangers were to start again in a lower tier.

I personally would never vote for them to be permitted retention of SPL status if their deeds of the past finally caught up with them. But I can see why clubs, including Celtic, would have a dilema.

Perhaps Rangers would be permitted SPL status if all trophies won during the EBT sporting integrity bypass were erased and awarded to the runner up team in all competitions? This, in my view, is the minimum that would be required if they are unable to pay the outstanding tax bills. It would essentially mean that Rangers bought these trophies with money the Goverment were due, thus creating an unfair advantage over all other clubes who were duly paying all tax monies the Government were due.

It really is that basic. Stolen trophies, obtained with the proceeds of tax theft.

I know we have many things in common, your average man in the street just wants a good life to look after his family.

The way I see it is, if the tables were about turned, would them be thinking the same way, I would very much doubt it, they hate us mi amigo, and they hate us with a vengance, they want us gone.

    That is enough for me.

  20. Cults Bhoy

That’s a fairly uniquely informed Rangers supporter you know.

There is little evidence of any Rangers site being insightful into what they are undergoing. Their default narrative is that it is all timmy lies and that, anyway, they have been winning despite operating under financial hardship. They did not talk, until very recently about their records being wiped, or about Administration being ignominious. These are all recent innovations in their narrative.

Of course, posters on their site also divide on whether it is Murray or Whyte that has landed them in trouble but few of them are looking at themselves and saying, why did we not see the writing on the wall? Why did we not demand more financial prudence from our managers? They were all too busy celebrating their short term successes to worry about payback times.

Well, Hell mend them, including your acquaintance. Not one of them has spoken the truth to their fellow bears from Day One. Even Johnston & Bain colluded with both the Murray and Whyte regimes for a period and did their share of laying false trails and blowing the smoke around the mirrors.

and no one in Scotland came to our aid.

They were ready to nail our coffin down and dance on our grave.

But against the odds we came back.

    We are the Glasgow Celtic.

And it will never make me a bitter man.
