Newco born from patronage of monetary inducements

740

Let’s be clear about what is going to happen on Friday.  Monetary inducements are being made to allow a newly created company to advance its football team two divisions up the league structure.

The overwhelming majority of money to pay for these financial inducements will be taken from Celtic, who vehemently oppose all these measures.  The SPL will reduce the commercial distribution to the top club in the league and pay-off everyone else.  41 teams will benefit financially from this proposition, only Celtic will lose.

For good measure, the SPL have declined to take gate sharing off the table.  Up to 30% of your season ticket money will soon be commandeered by Kilmarnock, Motherwell and the rest, who will take their slice and share some with the lower leagues.

All the while you can scarcely find a football fan of any club who is anything other than disgusted by this shoddy behaviour; Celtic fans are by no means isolated.  Most fans of former-club, Rangers, don’t want to see a phoenix assisted by such blatant patronage, lest Newco is forever known as a team which needed rules to be changed and money taken from Celtic to give it life.

Believe me, if Newco exists for 100 years, every day they score a goal someone will say, “They are only there because the rules were changed to help them and money was taken from Celtic to pay for it”.

They will forever be known as the Establishment club with definitive evidence that they benefited from the Establishment’s help.

The once-proud era of Scottish league football is surely over, what we are witnessing is merely evidence of this fact.  ‘Sport’ as gone from our football. Fans, clubs and the national bodies must accept this reality and start to make forward plans to breathe the oxygen of genuine competition into our game.

Where is Michel Platini when football really needs some help?

    SFA blocked clearance.

What if BDO declare that Duff and Phelps have been negligent and that sale can’t be completed. The hun players will become assets. I think they may already be under SFA auspices.

HMRC might be reminding them but I doubt it. SFA only left them there hoping Green would profit but he didn’t. Hence SFA blocked it.

Is it possible that one or more of the three judges hearing the EBT appeal case has been influenced by external factors and delayed any ruling?

As Alex Thomson said “It is possible”

( @alextomo Just as a reminder to your followers- HMRC does not control the tribunal process. It is entirely independent. It is possible… )

My one itch that I can’t scratch is, why haven’t the SPL and now the SFL clubs petitioned for a vote of no confidence in the 3 amigos and Ogilvie, just can’t get my head round that.

    Any thoughts?

I simply cannot understand anyone claiming to be a Celtic suporter ,who thinks that weakening Celtic financially in order to make the league more competitive, is a good idea.

  11. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on 9 July, 2012 at 19:30

Spot on. BDO could deem the sale of the club was not conducted legally and with that, it’s nipples pointing north for Whyte and Green.

  12. JungleJim – Footballing rules and the law of the land suffer an uneasy truce, and FIFA/UEFA don’t consider anyone who tests that truce to be a friend of football.

What we have here is two separate things; employment contracts (law of the land), and the player registrations (football rules). I’d consider the registrations to be the “assets”. You can’t claim an employee or their contract as an asset and put a value on them, as under employment law they can walk at any time.

Their playing registration however, is the asset. And as awe_naw rightly points out these were passed to Sevco for the princely sum of £1m. That’s £20m worth of players sold to Sevco for £1m, insolvency law has a term called ‘gratuitous alienation’ which might be pertinent here.

If D&P had not tried to pass those assets they’d still hold £20m of players to sell to pay off the creditors. Another mess in the making.

Strange one. You do realise Celtic are being weakened financially by not having Newco in the SPL or First Division. That much is very clear due to the sponsorship/tv revenue and the gate receipt carve up due to the change in the 11-1 voting system.

    Not one little bit.

Just treat it as a coincidence that Alex Thomson’s getting very suspicious about the delay of the EBT appeal case (his sources have given him some telling information on one of the judges). Like he said, “It is possible”

Undeniably, there is a financial cost by having no newco in the SPL or div 1.

That is more than offset by the moral cleansing of the game by getting rid of them, in my opinion.

What I find unacceptable is that the corrupt football authorities (and certain chairmen) should implement a plan which, regardless of newco, should try to stabilise the situation at Celtic’s expense. Literally.

  21. We need to leave this league asap. I dont know how but we have some heavy hitters within our (by some) maligned board and I am sure they know this too.

  22. I am legally obliged to do so as a shareholder on many levels. So considering what we,are dealing with I will take the advice that I pay for.

If you paid for a legal opinion that said gate sharing is against the law I hope you kept the receipt.

I simply cannot understand anyone claiming to be a Celtic suporter ,who thinks that weakening Celtic financially in order to make the league more competitive, is a good idea.

Again, yet again, a smear instead of a grown-up argument. I don’t ‘claim to be a Celtic supporter’, am a Celtic supporter. I think people who make or hint at bad faith with no evidence are despicable.

  23. Glendalystonsils

Absolutely, that is an entirely unpalatable state of affairs.

It’s just that gate-sharing was part of the game until relatively recently.

I like Alex Thomson. I’m not sure he would know who the independent judges are though, never mind whether they are part of a secret organisation.

So I’d take that with a pinch of salt.

Conspiracy theories can be entertaining. I remember talking to a guy who was convinced the World Trade Centre came down because explosives were planted on every floor of the building. His reasoning was based on the fact that the Twin Towers were built to withstand an earthquake.

I pointed out they didn’t come down as the result of an earthquake and they weren’t built to withstand jumbo jets with full fuel tanks slamming through them at supersonic speed.

If the league was stronger, Celtic would be stronger.

  28. Steinreignedsupreme – Actually the twin towers were built to withstand a jumbo jet impact. But, well how do you test that.

  29. The ‘institution’ that is Rankers has fallen.

But the mother ship continues afloat – the Orange Order parades continue unabated. The Parades Commission across the water is getting flak from the OO and also the NI First Minister who had this to say about those who object to what are essentially sectarian supremacist marches –

“serious questions must be asked about the intolerance of those who are opposed to this parade”

I salute all those who live and work abroad – you are lucky !
