Newco’s potential investor

271

Just a short one while we await the Uefa meeting to breakup.  I see the press have caught up on the information I left on CQN on 11 March about the potential investor in Newco.  Then, I wrote, “If [The Sun) had even given us something like, ‘A fan, originally from Paisley, who made his money in the Far East’ I would have thought their information was possibly on a par with mine.”

A month ago, Newco were the only club in Scotland facing a financial crisis, today, almost all are, but Newco’s situation is acute.  No Paisley-born-boy-did-good is going to change that.  There’s lots more going on here than I can write about or that others will.  Good luck to Stuart Gibson, if he signs that P.G.

Oh, and their new PR man, goodness!

  1. Ernie, It looks like they are dropping the herd immunity plan and are switching to disease suppression.

They are advising people to do what other Countries have more or less forced people to do.

U.K. are now a good few weeks behind the likes of Italy, I don’t know how they compute the peak of these things but I see the experts saying that Italy should peak in another 7 to 10 days.

I think the UK will have to bring in draconian measures and even then things will continue to get worse for another 5 or 6 weeks.

Bringing all that back to Celtic , if we are to finish our League by the 30th June, we would need to be playing matches y mid May & returning to full training in about a month, I can’t see a hope of that happening.

  2. I am assuming that, if we have no football for 2-3 months at the least, then several football clubs will go bust/into administration. I would predict that the SFA will sight extraordinary circumstances and none of the teams will face points deductions.

In Morrisons, no toothpaste on special, always 1 or 2 for a pound, £2.50- 4….fkn disgraceful profiteering

  4. UEFA, the national Associations and League bodies have come to the sensible decision to let things lie for a bit. The June 30th date is nothing more than buying time. There isn’t a hope in hell anyone will kick a ball before that date, never mind complete a league for that date. All parties will want to be seen to be following due process before wrapping things up.

It’s not necessarily what some Clubs would have wanted however, with some facing imminent cashflow problems.

  5. We are unprecedented times but some of the news coverage on the tv is really scaring people especially the old and vulnerable!.

These broadcasters should be reeled in and given a slap ffs.

Wee 83 year old woman in my taxi the day needing messages, not been oot since saturday!!, not one of her feckin neighbours been near her door!, not one. C@#@s!.

Told her tae give me the message line and went tae aldi in oxgangs for her.

A lot of drivers are doing the same.

News outlets have to curb their rhetoric ffs.

    Slime they are.

Scared tae put the telly on she told me.

    Wee shame.

  6. I think possible teams will tumble & hardship will force a rethink (suits spfl) & there will be a reorg of leagues…& the only way is declare …& relegation will b cancelled….

That will get the votes reqd.

    Anyway…

We all need to help each other get through this.

    God bless

Really strange how the huns said fk all about Leverkusen game next week being behind closed doors, yet in the statement yesterday, ‘categorically against playing remaining league games behind closed doors.’….they know that they can bully anyone in Scottish football

Noticed you mention Frank Haffey. Frank was an ever present in the Haffey; McKay and Kennedy; Crerand, McNeil and Peacock/Price defence. His performances were bizarre – saves better than Banks at his best followed by really grotesque blunders.

An early 60s cup-tie at Parkhead: Third Lanark stormed into a deserved 1-3 lead by half-time. Two minutes to go and it’s 4-3 for the Bhoys. A flash of Frank’s brilliance and the replay is on Wednesday.

We know…they know…we know they know and the only stumbling block for me is the gutless media….BBC Sportsound tnite…. took Iain McCall to declare Celtic should be declared champions…. but as long as PT arent relegated…Tosser.

  11. BB…………not even anyone at the national broadcaster or the broadsheets questioning their preposterous and incredible outbursts………..it’s parallel universe stuff over and over again.

Last night Roddy (Bond) Forsyth managed to introduce WWII into the debate. Not the only of course, but this was on a Radio 5 programme. Chris Sutton on too. Roddy was keen to argue that if Celtic won the league, (possibly because they were well in front when it ended) it would not be “official” (a word that many Celts know well) as in it would not mean 9 in a row. Though as Roddy kindly pointed out, Celtic could still get the 9 next season. All linked to a recent campaign to recognise RFC’s war effort and record. Well record anyway. Now I must admit I do not know a whole lot about wartime football but I have read that many soldiers played for different teams at different times depending on where they were based, but maybe RFC were different, had a settled team. Settled in Glasgow that is.

  14. FRITZSONG,

I was at the back of the Hayshed at that game. Am I right in thinking that both teams were applauded off the park at the end of the 90 minutes?

Frank Haffey was a performer first and last. He played the Celtic way. He was an entertainer.

Haffey, McKay etc is the first defense I could recite off by heart. The forward line changed from game to game at the whim of the Chairman.

You can’t be sure but it may be the case that governments ten years ago would have coped better with this virus. I say ten years ago because then there was real international cooperation .

This whole Trump/populism/nationalism event we’ve had since 2010 has screwed any prospect of concerted action. The last positive international response to a crisis was in 2008 when Gordon Brown got the G 20 to pre-empt a global depression. Brown’s name is now mud on the right and on the extreme left but historians will see him as a visionary.

  16. When I was based in Salford, I often had to endure Roddy Forsyth of a Saturday on Radio 5. He can’t help but show his bias. How he has kept his place (and, seemingly, be well regarded) at the national BBC baffles me.

Because the national beeb doesn’t give a monkeys about what’s happening in Scottish football.

No one ever questioned the same club fiasco – left it up to the hun branch.

You’re absolutely right. But the 13 or 14 year old me was also very disappointed.

Incidentally, Stevie shot over the bar from 2 yards just before Thirds equalised. (Thirds had two excellent forwards – Hilley and Harley. They did us a lot of damage in the first half.)

BB- To be fair, Tom English called out the huns statement last night on Shortbread, didn’t miss them.

  20. The 1939–40 was the 67th season of competitive football in Scotland. It would have been the 50th season of Scottish Football League, but the outbreak of the Second World War on 3 September 1939 caused the suspension of the league after five rounds of games played in Division One, and four rounds in Division Two. The league was not officially competed for until the 1946–47 season but there were regional leagues played during these years.

    1939–40 in Scottish football

he was sitting in his debenture seat, with his old granda’s name on it, up in the club deck , …….

Gordon Brown’s name is mud due to him and Alistair calling ignoring feral capitalism in our finance sector with massive increases in credit etc.it popped resulting in the bailing out of the banking sector by republic

I would also contend it would have started in 1976 with the intro of free market freidmanite policies -monetarism by denis Healey when the imf gave the country no option as a bailout,Thatcher followed…and the rest is history
