On Griffiths

Leigh Griffiths problems are significant enough for him to be sent home from the club’s training camp.  While no charges have been made and none may be made, online speculation can jeopardise a successful prosecution.

Whatever you heard happened, this is not the place to repeat hearsay.  Notwithstanding that, it is likely the end of the road for Leigh.

Met Charlie several times coming down the stairs at the game, as usual none of the the young uns new who he was…….me and my old uncle did so we had plenty of time to doddle and chat. Crackin’ guy, real gent and a great Celt.

    RIP Charlie…..’

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

    May the sun shine warm upon your face;

May the rains fall soft upon your fields

    and until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand

Sorry to hear that. Never saw him play but I met him a couple of times at supporters’ functions and he was good company, very modest and unassuming. May he rest in peace.

Ernie – notwithstanding the so called positives of the Dunkirk evacuation ….

… the constant harping back to WWII by public figures – as they desperately seek examples of British supremacy and global relevance – is anachronistic and embarrassing in equal measure.

For anyone hoping “Dunkirk spirit” will fade from the national lexicon any time soon though – I’d urge caution.

    We’re still hearing about Agincourt.

Men’s wheelchair final at Wimbledon just finished.

    Absolutely fabulous match.

The speed, agility and skill of these guys is incredible.

  5. lmao at moseleyite pickin out scottish fascists, without any insight into the carnage murder and chaos wrought by their ‘civilizing’ union.

    how very genocidal of you.

  6. Just read of the death of my favourite Celtic player, the one and only Charlie Gallagher. Two of his corners resulted in 2 of the most important goals in our history.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

  7. I understand criticism of John Kennedy being retained.

However, in my working life I watched very good people being promoted to a level of incompetence.

Some were unfortunately sacked, others (not many) being demoted to a level they were comfortable at.

My feeling is that Kennedy ., even in the short time he was in charge did not have the required skill set to manage Celtic.

So, he’s back down to assistant, where he has done much good work and received much praise for his work at this level.

And don’t forget, Ange calls the shots, not Kennedy or Strachan.

    Just my opinion.

However, IN ANGE I TRUST-C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Charlie represented the Donegal Gweedore Gorbals Irish along with Paddy Crerand

I had the pleasure of speaking with him the season before last and a humbler man with his achievements is hard to find

  9. I would have thought,10 million for Ajer ,9 million for Vuscovic,Starfelt, would have been a no Brainer.

Celtic Board work in mysterious ways.Mostly to our detriment.

Won’t get caught up in it though,it was ever thus.Just wish I could understand the logic.

  10. TURKEYBHOY – I said to Paul earlier today that when it comes to the business of transfers, our club moves slower than glacial erosion. It is painful to observe.

Sometimes if you pay the asking price, you get the deal done. Funny thing that, eh?

Haggle over it, play hardball, allow the agents time to get the word out to other clubs and we will lose out more often than not.

It’s not like we are targeting the kind of players that cost 50 million and where haggling 10 million off the fee is a worthwhile endeavour. We target players in the 2-5 million bracket and fight over the small print.

Hello again all you young rebels.

So sad to hear Charlie has passed, what a player, never got the

recognition he deserved due to the nature of the Scuddish game.

But my sadness has been tempered by a great show of silky

soccer from our u 17’s today, a 5-1 victory over a team called

MONBULK RANGERS up in the TOOMUC VALLEY, one of these

places where the hills have eyes.

Now their rangers name comes from the people who look after

the fields, trees, flora, fauna, and the coos I suppose.

But as my mate said ” beating any team with that name is so good ”

  12. HOT SMOKED,

In answer to your question about whether things would be any different in Scotland if we were in the final, I would so no. But, and it is a very big BUT, imo, I doubt whether the BBC would devote more than half the minutes of its news bulletins to the occasion. It is the BBC not the EBC. Even Radio 4 has the English team as the first item on its news programmes.

Some would argue that an England win might help to combat that.

    ==========

That would be an argument that some may make – I have my doubts.

I’ve also noticed that the makeup of the crowds at the games doesn’t seem to reflect the team makeup.

I just worry that the whole Brexit (whether you agreed with it or not) / anti-immigrant / jingoist stuff over the past few years has helped stoke some unpleasant undercurrents.

  19. Very sad to hear about Charlie Gallagher’s passing. As others have pointed out, he was a cultured inside forward who not only was a great passer of the ball but could produce some fierce shots.

On a personal note, my first Celtic game was the ’65 cup final where Charlie played a huge part in winning the cup, while he also scored the winner in my first game at Celtic Park in, I think, January ’66 against Dundee United.

  20. Another 6 foot plus boot merchant for sevco , unfortunately this one has a bit of skill and on a free transfer too . Is the golf finished yet ,then maybe our no interest owner will get the finger out .

    RIP Charlie Gallagher.

A very sensible, balanced post on Kennedy’s position.

If only others could remain balanced when posting their points of view.

It’s fine to have opposing opinions.

    It can even be healthy.

Unfortunately there are some who on here who are definitely unbalanced when posting their viewpoints.

    Imo, of course :-)

We had a 6ft plus no nonsense defender last season who came with a great reputation. How did that work out.

  25. For any who have not yet seen it

I have registered a closed pool on the Superbru site, which is a Score Predictor game for the SPFL fixtures in 2021/22.

This could be used as a fund raising medium if someone is willing to take on the burden of setting up a pay-in site and setting the prize money and charity donations percentages, or it could be used as a bit of fun for bragging rights.

Either way, the site exists and might replace the much-missed Jobo competition of last year.

    The site is http://www.superbru.com

and the code for joining is roomuser

Please use your CQN or Sentinel log in name for identification. First fixture is 31st July and your predictions have to be in before kick off on the day. If you fail to make a pick you get the default pick, so you get to play even if you forget.

Join CQN Sentinels, my Scottish Premiership league on Superbru! You can find my pool here:

    https://www.superbru.com/scottishpremiership/pool.php?p=12367961

or by downloading the Superbru app and searching for the pool with code:

  26. Sorry to hear about Charlie. Pat Crerand’s cousin, I think. Remember seeing a great photo of them in the Gorbals.

Slow, progress as always on the new players in front. We’ll have to go with what we have, I think, for the first qualifier. Hopefully have some good first team ready recruits for the next tie. The Danes will be a tough nut and we’ll need to be well organised to go through. I wonder who will play at right back?

English history? Has there ever been a country or news channel (bbc) so obsessed by previous wars. Every other week, there’s something about WW one or two. Unbelievable (and I say that as someone who is really interested in history).

  27. The only reason a lot of our English folks want Scotland to do well is because we are not a threat to them on the international stage. If we developed into one they would be against us just as much as we are of them…..
