On Griffiths

Leigh Griffiths problems are significant enough for him to be sent home from the club’s training camp.  While no charges have been made and none may be made, online speculation can jeopardise a successful prosecution.

Whatever you heard happened, this is not the place to repeat hearsay.  Notwithstanding that, it is likely the end of the road for Leigh.

Southgate does come across as a decent chappy..but behind that facciata is a cynical cheat who is coaching and encouraging his team to cheat and sneak their way to victory.

A bit like the Italians of old..ahem

    …………….

    TOO TRUE Mate.

Southgate has had a very easy ride also with decisions and LUCK always seeming to go THEIR Way.

They are also CHEATS, not just in this EURO Tourney, but remember in the World Cup in 1998…Michael Owen DIVING to win his Mobs Penalty against Argentina ?

The Engerlund Pundits and media like to FORGET about the MILLIONS of potential players that they can pick from…and all the Games that are played at Wembley.

    FORZA ITALIA !

Re transfers don’t confuse what you see and hear in the media for what happens in real life.

Scottish media are only to happy to publish anything from agents newspapers from far flung parts of the world if it gives the impression that Celtic have started a long drawn out transfer process , alternatively they actively do not publish anything from the Ibrox midden until it is done and dusted …. Hence all the Celtic fans complaining about the normal course of events are as usual foils in undermining the club

This fits culturally with our support who are suspicious of authority whereas the Hun genuflect (or bow in their case ) to authority

I’m constantly amazed at sections of the support who seem happier thinking we are crap at everything all the time ….

Dunkirk was a defeat , but the Dunkirk spirit refers to the evacuation, against all the odds, of 340,000 experienced troops who went on to form the core of the British army for the D Day landings four years later. Without the evacuation the outcome of the war might have been different, and more in line with what Arthur Donaldson had been hoping for.

    ……………

    ERNIE..

I do NOT need any lecture about Dunkirk from the English Press or Fitba Manager…..there were thousands of NON ENGLISH Troops on that Dunkirk beach…

As far as I am aware…BRITAIN isnt playing against Italy tonight……

    FORZA ITALIA.

I understand criticism of John Kennedy being retained. However, in my working life I watched very good people being promoted to a level of incompetence. Some were unfortunately sacked, others (not many) being demoted to a level they were comfortable at. My feeling is that Kennedy, even in the short time he was in charge did not have the required skill set to manage Celtic. So, he’s back down to assistant, where he has done much good work and received much praise for his work at this level. And don’t forget, Ange calls the shots, not Kennedy or Strachan.

*That’s the way I see it, several years ago I was hame on one of those family emergencies, sitting alone in my mother’s house in Balloch, she’s up in the Vale hospital and I’m still struggling with the jet lag up late at night tanning voddie brews.

A talk show comes on and one of the guests is Liam Brady, one of the British Isles most gifted players, light years ahead of the beast and butch wilkins who were highly rated but not cut out for management.

He’s now Head of Youth Development at the Arse; he pretty much admits that this is what he’s best at.

  7. Sad to hear about Charlie`s passing. I spoke to him occasionally at CQN Corner ( He used to stand nearby with John Fallon and others) and found him a really decent and humble man. I wish his family and friends all the best in what will assuredly be trying times.

Fair point but with a population about seven times the rest of the UK combined, I suppose the media coverage, whilst still over the top in my opinion, becomes a wee bit more understandable. Also, the England team.currently and historically, are easily the best of the four nations and as such would have reasonably expected more success than they have had. That, I suspect, is the reason for their growing fervour at the moment.

Anyway, if Italy play as well as they did against Spain, then England will have to wait a bit longer for the success they obviously crave.

The only reason a lot of our English folks want Scotland to do well is because we are not a threat to them on the international stage. If we developed into one they would be against us just as much as we are of them…..

Wee country v bigger neighbour syndrome. Just a pity that for a country so Football mad, we’ve been pretty crap for over 20 years. Quite pathetic actually in comparison to other small countries.

Bankiebhoy & Tontine Tim The West End Bar Duntocher, Village Tavern is now owned by the only Tim in Wet Wet Wet, drummer Tommy Cunningham. A fine wee shop it is. 5 boozers in Duntocher and all Celtic pubs. Fine Fenian Village.

*Just went online tae google maps, it’s been around 55 years since I worked in Duntocher so wanted tae confirm where Dick’s was.

It was then opposite an ash park and is the Duntiglennan Bar, bear in mind the estate was just getting built and I worked on the first house there.

According to some wag on KDS the huns got beat 55-0 by Tranmere Rovers.”

Would I be correct in assuming that means they lost 1-0 ?

  12. EL

No need to reply. I saw this :

`Rangers slipped to a narrow defeat to Tranmere Rovers `.

Somehow, a 1-0 defeat against Tranmere is portrayed in a way which could be considered `plucky` :-))

  13. I saw Big Jimmy posting that Italy were 50/1 to win 3-2, asked the wife what she thot the score would be and she said 3-2 to Italy and as if by magic I got a free tenner bet, so it went straight on to 3-2, fingers and that crossed.

    ……………………………

    RIP Charlie, a true gentlemen.

  14. EKBhoy – like in most things, the truth will be somewhere between the two extremes. My opinion is based on a few factors including the obvious observation that we are always scrambling to do business on the last day of the window depite knowing what we need months prior to it. By then the CLQs have been and gone.

We have known since at least last summer that Ajer, Christie and Edouard wanted to leave, that we didn’t have the required quality at LB, CH, RB, that Brown was finished and Griff was unreliable. And yet here we are again.

The media takes great pleasure in this, of course they do, but we give them plenty of ammunition.

  17. God rest Charlie Gallagher. With my dad at the Dunfermline Cup Final down at the front- I can still see him bending down carefully placing the ball and the swinging in the corner-kick for Big Billy to score.

In those days the players were more like us, no millionaires, no millionaire lifestyles – they were easy to love – Charlie was loved.

  18. Ange has made an encouraging start to his preseason and let’s hope he can build on this.

It’s predictable that the big football nations are contesting tonight’s final. Hoped the Danes would make it but like all small nations just didn’t have the vital strength in dept to see them through.

Celtic down through the years have had some excellent English players giving their all for the club but it doesn’t really matter to me who wins the game. The boorish carry on of English football supporters and the booing of national anthems does the team no favours. Some say a minority but to my ears it sounds like a sizeable majority. i do like my local Italian chipper and the delicious quarter pounder and chips I get in Cafe Roma.

  19. If England win we will never hear the end of it. They are still talking about their world cup win.

We won the European cup in 1967 and no one since has talked about the Lisbon lions.
