Pairing up and testing, £17m running figure

330

The search to resolve our defensive problems this season stretch back before the departure of Virgil van Dijk in August. Dedryck Boyata and Efe Ambrose have struggled with form, which our big summer signing, Jozo Simunovic, has endured two lengthy injury lay-offs.

Defensive stats have been revolutionised since the January arrival of Erik Sviatchenk, who was voted the Danish Superliga’s Player of the Year last night. We have achieved six clean-sheets in his nine starts, losing only a solitary goal each game the defence was breached. It took 20 games to record six clean-sheets before the Dane arrived.

We are far from the finished article at the back. The clean-sheets mask perennial failures to defend corner kicks, which have recently resulted good chances, instead of goals conceded. But, progress has been clear. Jozo’s been out of the team since the week before Erik’s arrival.

One of the things we need between now and the end of the season is these two paired up and tested. You win things (and qualify for things) when you stop conceding goals.

I remember the days I’d pour over Oldco Rangers’ accounts for insights into the future and comparisons with our own business model. I’d a cursory look at The Rangers Football Club’s accounts this morning. There is little of comparative relevance for us, or indeed, probably for Newco’s short-term future, should they gain promotion this season.

The one area that offers comparison is the cost of running a football business in a stadium which occasionally caters for crowds of 50,000 or more. With first team wages (I assume this refers to professional players employed) stripped out, expenses during the paired-down Easdale-led season was just north of £17m.

This is a useful guide of what it costs to pay your rates, electricity , insurance and the million other bills when you need to occasionally cater for 50,000-ish crowds, although many costs, like police, will reflect a lower tariff due to the lack of actual footfall. We don’t get as clear a picture of this cost from Celtic, who don’t separate player wages from non-playing staff. My hunch is that Celtic’s paried-down figure will be a few million higher (the silver polish bill alone….).

Neggy, I can’t be bothered trawling through old CQN articles but you know what I’m talking about, you’re a pub bore, we’ve all met your type you are 10 a penny in most public houses.

Guys like you bump their gums constantly but actually do nothing that ever makes a difference, you are an irrelevance when it comes to actually making a difference.

What’s your next plan of attack? Post rubbish every 15 mins? Yeah go on you’re my hero that will really make a difference. I’d doth my cap if I wore one, well no actually I wouldn’t.

I enjoy James’s writings and am in general agreement with the thrust of his argument – however, apart from the infamous EBTs, when people lend money, even unsecured, they do so in the belief that they will get in back.

    1) Why do these businessmen keep lending to Sevco?

    2) How long will they continue to do so?

    3) What guarantees/security have they got?

    4) Is there some long-term plan that we are all unaware of?

Finally, there are, sadly some on here, let’s call them ‘moonbeams’, who deride our directors and CEO for running our club “like a business” – let’s hope these ‘enlightened’ souls read James’s article.

A police officer sees a man driving around with a pickup truck full of Squirrels. He pulls the guy over and says… “You can’t drive around with squirrels in this town! Take them to the zoo immediately.” The guy says “OK”… and drives away. The next day, the officer sees the guy still driving around with the truck full of squirrels, and they’re all wearing sun glasses. He pulls the guy over and demands… “I thought I told you to take these squirrels to the zoo yesterday?” The guy replies… “I did . . . today I’m taking them to the beach!”

  8. On many subjects – i.e. Sevco/Rangers, EBTs, Res12, the Celtic board…etc, it is right that there is open discussion and opinion on this and other blogs.

However, unless all the facts are known, opinions remain just that, opinions – we are all entitled to our own.

What irks me is that some ‘repeat offenders’ actually believe that their opinions are hard and fast FACT, they are not.

Most of these people have an agenda and a story to fit same – so they simply fill in any ‘blanks’ (and there are bound to be many) with some imagined ‘tripe’ of their choosing – then get very angry and hurl personal abuse at anyone who might have an opposite view.

The ‘squirrel’ clique are a prime example – they rhyme off Sun-like slogans because they are unable to form a coherent argument.

  12. RESOLUTION 12 – WHERE NEXT?

    ———————————————-

There has been so much written on this blog proper to the above, and yet still so many people are unaware or seemingly uninterested in what is no doubt a potentially serious isssue in Scottish Football.

Auldheid and BRT&H have taken much time and effort to outline the complexities of the situation and now, understandably, want the issue to have a more visible public profile – hence the shareholder letter to solicitors.

I believe that in order to publicise things more widely and for the concerns to be taken seriously, a more concise case has to be put forward – a case that any one of our supporters can readily understand.

If the movers of the original resolution, and those now campaigning, can encapsulate the case in the following simplified form, then it could have a real chance of ‘breaking through’

“We charge that the SFA colluded with the then Rangers FC to in order that they (Rangers) were granted a licence to play in UEFA competitions, when they (SFA) knew that the existance of an outstanding tax bill from HMRC to Rangers, precluded the issuing of the said licence under the UEFA rules and regulations”

If the contents of the above paragraph can be substantiated then I am sure there is a justifiable legal case – I have the feeling that although technically correct, there is still not enough ‘hard evidence’ to support this charge, as things stand at present.

I am open to being proved wrong.

  13. Margaret McGill on

Mr Patsy on 23rd March 2016 3:07 am

    Its easy peasy.

if the content of that paragraph had ONE fibre of doubt or ambiguity res 12 would already be history. The FACT that the SFA have not responded in any way shape or form proves not only were the SFA complicit in Rangers fraud but to what degree SUBSEQUENTLY have Celtic FC played in this unscrupulousness. If it ever gets to a non Scottish court. Celtic supporters win. Everyone else looses. Not gonna happen. Stop being a Patsy Mr Pastry

  14. MARGARETMCGILL@3:20 – But of course there is doubt because we do not have the SFA side of the story – now we can all guess and ‘fill in the blanks’ as I alluded to earlier – but that is not hard evidence.

On the five-way agreement- yes for arguments sake, I do believe there was one – however I have never seen the actual document, or had it’s existence confirmed, by either the SFA/SPFL, or, Rangers/Sevco, and therefore I cannot say uneqivically that it exists – tell me, have you actually seen it?

Finally to suggest that Celtic are complicit and are involved in some unholy alliance with those at Ibrox and at Hampden, to pull the wool over the eyes of Celtic supporters, is quite frankly, absurd (in my opinion).

They absolutely cheated everyone in Scottish Football and we Celtic, seem to have accepted it, including the same club myth, completely unchallenged. The size of the Celtic support may suffer because of cheating, but it’s a gamble the PLC so far appear happy to take.

Re your reply to Roddybhoy’s insightful contributions last night could you tell me (a shareholder since 1994) in the light of the knowledge from this “impeccable source”, did you feel inclined to pass on the information to the four initiators of Resolution 12?

And later, when you became aware of the agreement between the resolutioners and the PLC for the 2013 adjournment, apparently with a promise by the PLC to help behind the scenes to bring the aims and objectives of the resolution to a satisfactory conclusion, did you view this offer as a volte face by the PLC or were you of the opinion, as another poster so aptly put it, that the four had been sent for a long staun by PL?

    I actually believe him!!!

  23. Canny understand all this nicker-ripping about res : 12 ?

    Ye see, it’s like this…..

For res : 12 to work, it must have the ‘authentic’ Celtic Football Club / PLC stamp!

That is not going to happen by – signing petitions / mandates etc.

Res : 12 would bring the ultimate justice to Scottish football and, the Scottish establishment.

But, to get that….Celtic FC must be on the same page as the fans.

Celtic FC will not be going onto the same page as the fans because, this would mean that the hierarchy at Celtic Park would have to relinquish their grip on the gravy train which hinges on, corruption, cheating, bigotry and, a Celtic hierarchy which would – look the other way – after they’ve had their cut.

So, putting things into chronological order…a sequence of boxes would have to be ticked but, there can be ‘no’ progress with res : 12 if,….the 1st box remained un-ticked.

The 1st box is – Celtic fans / shareholders / hierarchy…all on the same page.

The current Celtic hierarchy couldn’t make it any clearer that they ‘wont’ be going onto the same page as, fans and, shareholders.

So, it hits a brick wall and, the game, the game is over….the cheats have won!

Or, Celtic supporters / shareholders could, regroup, redirect the aim of their guns and…force a change in the structures of Celtic FC.

Until you force structural change at Celtic Park….your stuffed!

In this grand ole year were, possibly millions of Tims world wide will be celebrating the – 1916 rebellion / uprising….surely, whilst they regale about 1916….they won’t take their eyes off the ball and, let Celtic FC die under their noses ? Surely not ?

Because….to walk away from this ‘open-goal’ would see, tens of thousands of Celtic fans world wide…slowly dying of broken hearts.

Not doom & gloom…….no, it’s not…..it’s the price you’ll pay if you take up yer seat at the back of the bus.

Never mind all this res : 12 p#sh / mandates etc…..for the time being.

But, you have to realize that you, and only you….hold the key to make all of this go away.

It’s simple….don’t give the board your money….sack them!

If you don’t…..they’ll sell you out….to all the returning devils from hell.

Sack the board – Restructure the club – Save Celtic.

    You know you have to.

    Don’t you ?

Please, please, please, do the right thing.

A restructured Celtic FC can, grab res : 12 by the b#lls and carry out the exorcism to end the huns and their complicit SFA – FOREVER!

I hope and, pray that guid, decent, honest, well-meaning, innocent Celtic fans can see the light and end all this anti-Celtic misery – full stop!

    Btw – what am I doing ?

Oh, I just ‘dont’ give the kowtowing / collusive / cheats on the Celtic board my money.

No petitions – no mandates – no meetings, just step back and ‘dont’ be kidded-on any more.

If more folk tried it – the cheats from the board would be gone.

Please take a page from KevJungle’s book and, hunt the cheating Celtic hierarchy doon London Road….never to return.

Oh, and let me stress – I’m not trying to make a ‘play’ of my health issues and, tempt fate or, mislead folk or, to be deceitful or, sleekit but….if in the not to distant future….thigs don’t go my way….please let me die happy in the knowledge that, one of the dearest loves of my life – Celtic FC – is in guid ‘Celtic’ hands.

Only you can do this – only you will suffer if you don’t.

May God Bless All Celtic Supporters

“The current Celtic hierarchy couldn’t make it any clearer that they ‘wont’ be going onto the same page as, fans and, shareholders.”

That fact was just as obvious in 2012 as it is now. So, why Resolution 12 and the elaborate process of bringing 100 signatories, including me, on board?

The four resolutioners’ agreement for the 2013 adjournment was either an act of incredible naivety or they were in cahoots with the PLC to run down the clock to the present day when it’s already too late for a UEFA submission.

We had a laugh about it in the ned, but quite frankly Eddie you calling me out on it makes you the stalker. And it had nothing to do with my or your views on Celtic.

Your problem Eddie is that your childish need to defend the board is making a fool of you. Hence why it’s hilarious for you to suggest that Celtic put an artical about res 12 in the Celtic view whilst Celtic are busily trying to bury res 12. That’s the sort of err logic that comes from desperately trying to defend something indefensible.

Turkeybhoy continues his brand of angry sychophancy.

And mr pastry. See the thing about the squirrel Refer nice hurts so much because it’s true. All these lovely distractions and you still can’t explain any single rationale reason for why Celtic won’t take on res 12 apart from to deny its authenticity.

But all the cyber bullied of these three don’t change a single thing.

The Celtic board are complicit in the open corruption in Scottish football and are betraying the Celtic support whilst at the same time using the Celtic support to gain entry to things like this super duper tourney.
