Picked up, shook out, turned into someone new

508

Neil Lennon seemed hurt by the performance yesterday.  “Some of [the players]look like their minds are elsewhere at other clubs.

“I don’t know if they have been tapped up, I don’t know where they are mentally, but you can tell by their body language they are not with us at the minute and I’ll have to sort that out.”

“I have pulled them out of places that no-one had heard of and put them in the shop window.

“And I want payback now. That is simply not good enough.”

Those of you of a certain age might have thought that sounded a bit like:

“You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar, when I met you.  I picked you out, I shook you up and turned you around, turned you into someone new.”

Of course, that girl from the Human League retorted:

“I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar, that much is true.  But even then I knew I’d find a much better place, either with or without you.”

As Human League declared in verse, talent will find its level, but only if it performs.  It doesn’t matter where they came from, players who cannot excel in the SPL will drift into relative obscurity on leaving Celtic. There has been no exception to this rule.

  1. p8ddy make up your mind.

When I compare your style to that of a primary school teacher, you accuse me of having a low opinion of them?

When I withdraw my remark, you accuse me of “ad hominem insults.” Against whom you do not say.

    So which is it?

That Alex Ferguson picked Roy Aitken is not “a point” for you to accept or reject – it’s a fact. Its truth does not depend on my acceptance of any view you wish to advance. Describing your own opinions as empirical observation or some such highfalutin mince does not alter the fact that they are your opinions. Nothing more.

Thanks for your insights into the mind of Roy Aitken. Does he share your view of his career?

Memories of 1st game. it was 28th May 1888 against the Huns and we won 5-2. Neilly McCallum scored the first goal but i missed it as I was away for a Colin Nish as I had necked a few porters on the horse and cart on the way to the game.

  22. Morning all (afternoon here), from previous postings :-

tontine tim (or similar), enjoyed story of st. Kessog, I know area (slightly) of Inverness and ferry thought Celtic place not person name. Put me right on one point, you say was former patron of Scotland but Calvinists changed to Andrew. From primary school, catholic in 50’s, I thought “proddies” didn’t have saints, at least the more severe ones. If so, was it because patron saints were too ingrained and needed for battle cries (a bridge too far?). England I think were late in searching for Georgie boy,why having to go further afield. Somebody??

Another point, easy peasy forecasts next match, forthcoming titles,10 in a row etc. I’ve said before, is it a “Keltic” thing? I lived through “Allies tartan army” far worse than English hysteria! Thankfully some sensible posts about “crowing before” (saving it for after after is well worth the wait) also pointed out Rosenborg had years of CL monies and hegemony as did others, but eventually lost! Have you not witnessed enough,They’ll be back up and will then find willing ivestors to topple Celtic, unless supporters can enforce integrity past and future!!!

Last:- “big Yogi ploughing through snow drifts with a couple of hangers on” not lucky enough to have seen it, or maybe memory adrift. Reminds me of the magnificent site of Jonah Lumo (NZ,RU) still able to run with 2 English players hanging around his waist, hampering him but no more! He did it to others also often. When a bony, tender elbows and knees,12 year old learning the game, was taught always tackle around the lower thighs/knees to bring them down. Rarely seen even at pro level, needed to be much braver and tougher. Maybe a bit of fat could have helped cushion my pitiful attempts. Lacking that and possibly the others I opted for cross country which more suited my abilities and physique.

Lets concentrate on “not moving on” will concede this season’s titles sb a given!!

    Cheers all

There was certainly a game against Motherwell back in the early ’90’s (Steve Kirk scored for them) at Celtic Park where it happened.

  24. Top of the morning to you all from the Winter Wonderland of Fife.

Disney like scenes of snow under blue skies and the fantasia theme is echoed in the Herald with their prediction of £100m + turnover for Sevconians when they get back to the big time!
