Populist instigators without a plan

739

Loved the statement issued by the ‘3 Bears’ last night.  They protest that their offer to Rangers International was superior to the offer from Sports Direct, which was accepted.  What the sharp-eyed PR wizard didn’t figure when delivering the statement, though, is:

The board need 75% shareholder permission to dis-apply shareholder pre-emptive rights and create sufficient shares to allow the 3 Bears to fund their proposed share issue.

Support of the Easdale proxy block is needed to pass this dis-application.

Knowing they needed Easdale support, when the board asked if they would drop the EGM resolution to remove James Easdale from the board in order to make their proposal viable, the 3 Bears declined.

Consider the conversation:

A. “We’ll fund a share issue.”

B. “That needs Jimmy’s agreement.  Will you drop your plans to sack him?”

A. “No.  We’re still going to sack him.”

B. “Can’t do, Jimmy’s not going to vote for that.”

A. “It’s all your fault for not accepting our perfectly well thought-out proposal.”

It’s astonishing how shoddy an operation these clowns have.  I know no one in the media will explain the reality to fans, nor will they believe anything they read here.  When populist instigators for change have no viable plan, a club is deader than Rangers (mark I).

Celtic sacked Thompson but have never gone public on the reason why, which has the effect that some people assume he was unfairly dismissed and badly treated.

Celtic would have been respecting the man’s privacy by not disclosing the specific reasons behind their actions, rather than it being a sign that they had no real reason. In fact even the Daily Record story falls short of making those reasons public.

Thompson’s tone in the interview is largely one of acceptance as opposed to recrimination.

How are you anyway big man? Chris was in Edinburgh last weekend visiting his cousins – my sons. I didn’t see him but apparently he was in good form as usual.

My son and I are staying at his on Saturday for the big game on Sunday so I’ll see him then.

Apparently he is soon away doing a crossing of the Sahara for charity. What a guy.

    Hope you are well.

    Tom McLaughlin,

Was it yourself that suggested the book, If This Is a Man by Primo Levi?

If so then thanks for the recommendation. I bought it as an Audio book on Audible.co.uk and have been captivated by it. The audio book comes with his second book called, the truce. Anyway, the matter of fact descriptions of Primo’s time in Auschwitz and his feelings at the time (without ever passing judgment on his captors) are very descriptive and terrifying.

  3. Istanbulcelt –

It was another poster who recommended it. Can’t remember who off the top of my head. I merely seconded that recommendation.

    Glad you enjoyed it mate.

  4. Morning all,

I was wondering if the more technical of you bhoys and ghirls might be able to help me.

I’m down in Londonshire with only free telly (no satellite or cable, unfortunately) and can’t get BBC Scotland.

Do any of you know if I’ll be able to watch live on the iPlayer?

I’m a bit nervous about the “programme will be available soon after broadcast” message that’s currently on it.

    Thanks!

You said in your post to Summa of Sammi

“Apparently he is soon away doing a crossing of the Sahara for charity. What a guy.”

I hope that the crossing is a well planned out and secure venture.

I work in The Algerian Sahara, as does another CQN poster. I would certainly suggest that there are some security risks across North Africa, and with such big unmanned boarders, it can be a dodgy place.

I work on the site that was attacked 2 years ago, and we still get security updates and have drastically improved the security facilities on-site. I hope his trip is well planned secure.

Hello Tom, I’d certainly back-up Istanbulcelt’s comments on the dangers of travelling in the Sahara. Stay away from the southern areas would be the general advice, but there are risks in all areas.

I have configured iplayer to think I’m in Scotland so it should be ok, back up plan is a pub which is home to the Hayes CSC about 12 miles away.

I’m in Sutton so a bit further south. I actually watched the Salzburg game in a pub down here with an Austrian Salzburg fan who’s missus works with Mrs Cosenza! Shame about the result but he didn’t rub it in – good lad!

How did you configure the iPlayer (is it something that’s legal to share here?! If not, I’ll do a bit of generic internet search engine-ing and see what I can find!)

Also, I’ll need to check out the CSC – wasn’t aware of it!

Open iplayer and scroll down an inch or so, on the left side of the screen there’s an option to ‘Change Location’

Choose ‘Scotland’ (above the English districts)

    It’s that simple.

As the Marina wifi isn’t great I’m considering a csc, obviously for the atmosphere, I can’t generate much atmosphere if it’s just me and the dog, (wife’s working).

A quick check on Celtic bars found the Captain Morgans pub, home of Hayes Bhoys csc about 12mls north of me.

I’ll decide on the morning probably

  18. Good morning CQNers,

    Winning captains,

I received my copy of the herald yesterday, thanks. The statement certainly lanced the festering sore that is the fraud narrative that surrounded oldco/newco rangers, well done all concerned.

Glad your copy of the Sunday Herald arrived safely. The Statement has been a huge success but is only the start. We will return to this issue next week!

Next complaint – where is my daily stock market announcement from The Rangers? I am becoming addicted.

Come on Andy Murray today. Hope we are watching him win on Sunday just finishing in time to watch us reach the final.

I might just jump a train to Euston to save driving, the Underground CSC look a mad bunch.

Also considering the Wimbledon CSC at the Irish Centre, they’re only a few miles from you.

  23. The BBC part in promoting the Big Lie is in full swing on Radio Five with a trailer bigging up the “return of the Old Firm “. I’m not normally one for submitting official complaints but I did on this occasion.

“I listened to a trailer for the broadcast of the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday 1st. February. The trailer referred to the return of the “Old Firm” which is factually wrong on two counts.

Firstly, the term “Old Firm” referred to a long-standing derby between Celtic and Rangers football clubs. However, Celtic FC has publically distanced itself from the “Old Firm” description of this fixture and indicated to all media outlets that it be referred to as the Glasgow Derby. This has been its policy as expressed on its official website since 2011.

Secondly and more importantly, the other half of the erstwhile “Old Firm” no longer exists. Rangers FC formed in 1872 were liquidated in June 2012. This is not an opinion. It is a legal fact and the BBC has a duty in its charter to broadcast factual information.

The team which faces Celtic FC on Sunday is a new football club and this will be the first fixture between the two teams. The fixture is therefore not “Old” nor is it a “Firm”. Please therefore take prompt action to remove this misleading and factually incorrect trailer from future broadcasts. I look forward to your response.”

  24. My good lady taking me to the Big Smoke for a birthday w/e so no sight of the match as will be travelling back courtesy of Virgin Trains. Actually glad I will be insulated from the whole circus but will be on tenterhooks till I’m back in Glasgow :-)

Praying for a Celtic win but only a little more than usual as I’d hate how the smsm would go into overdrive, otherwise not any more anxious than normally.

The LC has been a strange tourney for us but hoping this will be Ronny’s first trophy…but united or dons will be more challenging than RIFC.

What is the next step WC?

I hope the SFA and/or Ogilvie are the target, a wee well targeted statement in the press (another Ad) about the Wee Tax case and Campbel’s silence on the evidence provided to HMRC/LNS would float ma boat mate.

  26. winning captains

The success of the advertisement, for my part, is gauged simply by the fact the contents of the statement remain unchallenged.

  27. On another theme completely.

Some very poignant/harrowing and disturbing reminders of what horrors man is capable of inflicing on his fellow man with the broadcasting of peoples experiences during this holocaust remembrance week.

You can only be horrified and feel pain for the Jewish people who endured that carnage.

Of all the people/nations in the world, I would have thought the Israelites would be the last ones to be pulverising a people who have a right to live on their own land.
