Populist instigators without a plan

739

Loved the statement issued by the ‘3 Bears’ last night.  They protest that their offer to Rangers International was superior to the offer from Sports Direct, which was accepted.  What the sharp-eyed PR wizard didn’t figure when delivering the statement, though, is:

The board need 75% shareholder permission to dis-apply shareholder pre-emptive rights and create sufficient shares to allow the 3 Bears to fund their proposed share issue.

Support of the Easdale proxy block is needed to pass this dis-application.

Knowing they needed Easdale support, when the board asked if they would drop the EGM resolution to remove James Easdale from the board in order to make their proposal viable, the 3 Bears declined.

Consider the conversation:

A. “We’ll fund a share issue.”

B. “That needs Jimmy’s agreement.  Will you drop your plans to sack him?”

A. “No.  We’re still going to sack him.”

B. “Can’t do, Jimmy’s not going to vote for that.”

A. “It’s all your fault for not accepting our perfectly well thought-out proposal.”

It’s astonishing how shoddy an operation these clowns have.  I know no one in the media will explain the reality to fans, nor will they believe anything they read here.  When populist instigators for change have no viable plan, a club is deader than Rangers (mark I).

  2. Aye, F.A.B. Virgil: those ‘banned songs’ shouldn’t be too hard to spot.

I didn’t try to get a ticket for Sunday’s semi, in large part because of the nausea I felt after the LC Final in 2011.

From memory, the hymn sheet that day was liberally sprinkled with numerous renditions of the usual selection of ant-Catholic and anti-Irish ditties, such as: the Billy Boys, Famine Song, No Pope of Rome, We are Rangers (Super Rangers); most of these repeated several times.

It was like a throw back to the 1970s and ’80s.

I was in the ‘posh seats’ that day and was particularly struck by the number of suited and booted types who were ‘caught up in the occasion’ …

FANS can now feel even closer to the action thanks to the much-anticipated launch of Celtic TV’s high definition live match coverage.

The HD service has been in testing for a number of months, with viewers giving it a resounding thumbs-up. Feedback has been hugely positive from those fans who have had a sneak preview.

On the Celtic TV wall, JohnFK commented: “Excellent job first-half on the HD stream. Good job guys!” Elbhoy1 added “HD perfect in Leavenworth.” And the bhoydaveJAPAN was delighted with the customer service he received “A follow-up phone-call to Japan from Celtic TV making sure I’m getting HD. Credit where it’s due.”

This week, the service will be available to ALL Premium Subscribers watching the semi-final of Scottish League Cup, presented by QTS. Fans will be able to stream the match in clear HD quality, making watching the Hoops from afar even better than ever.

And the good news keeps coming as our live HD match coverage will be available to all Premium Subscribers at NO EXTRA COST.

The Hoops’ visit to Hampden on Sunday, which kicks off at 13:30GMT is available to all overseas subscribers. UK and Ireland subscribers can listen to exclusive live match commentary with a unique Celtic slant with Paul Cuddihy and co-commentator Kenny McKay.

  7. this from stan collymores blog… a few sweary words beware…

    My Celtic and Rangers thing…

Over the last few months I’ve had a lot of stick from Rangers fans after talking about their club, being critical and sometimes poking a little fun at what even they must see as quite an extraordinary situation which I’m sure makes them laugh and cry in equal measure.

It’s usually followed with name calling which is fine, references to “Ally pumped ya burd” which I find genuinely hilarious and more exotic Roman Catholic slurs (I’m Church of England) .

Old clips of an interview at Ibrox I did (went to watch Rangers v St Johnstone when Gazza/Coisty were there) are doing a roaring trade on the retweet circuit, as it rightly suggested at the time that I had a soft spot for the club going back to early teens.

So why the love in for Celtic Football Club now?

And then I started to read, learn for myself the history of the club, my Britishness, Celtic and came to a swift, quite embarrassing conclusion.

There is very little (Poppy tribute aside, as my family faught for my freedom of speech and my nation) to celebrate about Rangers in my opinion. Virtual sporting apartheid for many years, not allowing one part of the community to play for them was quite frankly a disgrace, and that alone, knowing all about how one group of people look down on another, would have been enough to move on from those Rangers “supporting ” days.

Then I learned of very close links historically between some Rangers supporters and right wing nutters who follow Chelsea, who themselves extols the virtues of an anti black, anti immigrant, anti inclusion mantra. Not for me thanks!

But why actively then choose a fondness for Celtic?

chanting Mark Walters are wankers, and I’m convinced in my own mind, from what I’ve seen that Celtic FC is way more inclusive than not,I’m not stupid). Is actively anti fascist an has embraced Catholic and Protestant footballers from year dot. In other words, a club who would have embraced my religion merely as a sportsman, not the disgusting apartheid that, if I were a Roman Catholic footballer wouldn’t have allowed me in the 70’s to wear a blue football shirt.

I don not support the IRA , so anyone trying that one can with respect fuck off, I’m a proud English Republican, and that’s where my Republican fervour lies, a Royal family is a relic of yesteryear, and again yesteryear rather than a bright tomorrow seems to be celebrated rather too much for my liking at Rangers.

I’ll take stick for this and that’s fine. I respect Rangers football club achievements, the many fine players they’ve had and the wonderful support given to Fernando Ricksen last week was truly touching.

But I don’t like what Rangers stood for and in many ways continue to stand for, I feel closer and more aligned to what Celtic Football Club stand for.

I support neither, I support Aston Villa Football Club, but I’ve been asked the question many times on Twitter I decided to address it.

Meanwhile those who can’t afford the premium service can count on being stiffed by paying to watch full games but only getting to see 60% of the action due to buffering and substandard service.

I had been going back and forth about watching/not watching the game on Sunday … but it looks like the decision has been made for me .

I didn’t know the old fella across the road very well, but one day last summer I was out in the garden (wearing the hoops, of course). He shouted over that he liked the jersey and we got to talking. Turns out that, like me, he is a tim (I’m from Paisley, and he is from Dumbarton, I think he said) ….

He disappeared in the fall … turns out he had a massive heart attack and several strokes … but fortunately, we live right near a few great hospitals, and he received great treatment. he is now back home and up and around, but still gettng some treatment… I dont think he gets out much, and probably still cant drive. I saw his wife this morning, and asked if she thought he might like to get out this weekend, and come to the CSC with me to watch the game…. She lit up like a candle, and said he would love to get out to see the bhoys. She was almost in tears that I would do that for him.

So, as much as I still have some mixed feelings about seem sevco, it looks like I will be there cheering the bhoys on!
