Protecting your keeper and defence

772

If we are looking for reasons why Celtic have dropped so many points in recent weeks it is revealing that we have not kept a clean sheet away in the league since Boxing Day, and that was to bottom club Dundee.

Losing goals, of course, is seldom about the last line of defence, and losing goals this consistently is seldom even an issue with defence, in dominant teams, defenders are seldom taxed.  It is more likely a consequence of the shape of the team.  Goalkeepers should be protected, as should defences.

It’s the midfield we should be looking at.  Dominate possession and stop leaving spaces for the opposition to exploit; we’ll stop losing goals and start winning games.

  1. Doh ! All calm now, back down to Def Con 0.

Was just a “wee” party from Bathgate heading back home to Airdrie.

Apart from 3 burned out taxis, a chapel reduced to ashes, 1 awol taxi driver and 2 corpses suspended from the M8 bridge upside down, a missing convent, and the ransacking of Armadale Polis Station, all is right in the world again.

Rumours amongst the MSM are that this could be the most powerful story, ever, in Scottish meeja history, and could halt (reverse even) the monthly 10% decline in rag sales. But sadly, word from Media House is that there was possibly some “in your face”, “failure to comply”, Timmy behaviour tonight – because of Neil Lennon the snarling manager of Celtic and his failure as a football manager, some fenians are exercising their right to be out after 10pm – that needs expanded on, so the first story’s a deid rat.

Nah, for a laugh, I try to make my tongue touch my nose, flick them in the coupons with their own upside down flags and scream that the one in front got me pregnant. This doesn’t do much when they see I’m a middle aged man, but eventually collective reasoning kicks in, and they re-direct by 15 degrees south west to return to the original venture towards Asbestox.

Lads, for anyone interested in a CQN Cheltenham Naps competition, please go back and post your daily selections at the end of the following article :

“Picked up, shook out, turned into someone new”” – use the same article for all 4 days of the Festival.

Winner = 10 points + the Starting Price, Second place = 5 points, Third place = 3 points

    e.g. a 12/1 winner scores 22 pts (10+12), a 7/2 winner scores 13.50 pts (10+3.5), and a 6/5 winner scores 11.20 pts (10+1.2).

  17. Loved some of the stories from CQN ‘rs about the old grounds. Great memories

Also love how Paul67 comes to his summaries about the team

My view. I look at statistics. We don’t have a top scorer in the top 4 in SPL this season Gary Hooper is no 5. Next on list is no 18!!! Our forwards are not scoring goals

So priorities for me is to get in some goal scoring forwards

  18. Breaking News

There was uproar last night on various Celtic blogs when a senior Celtic player admitted preferring Blue Riband to Club biscuits.

Posters flooded blogs with comments like

“This is a slap on the face to true Celtic fans”

“If he spent more time practising corners instead of eating biscuits we could have beaten Juve”

“After hearing this I burnt my season ticket…unfortunately it’s plastic so it melted”

    “It’s all Peter Lawwell’s fault”

The player later tweeted that he did enjoy a club biscuit but that was unlikely to calm the irate Celtic fans….

    Unfortunately lots more to follow….

  19. SydneyTim

St the other side of that coin is Celtic have scored over 100 goals in all comps…

Goals from all over the park that being said a wee Leo widnae be bad..

  20. Every Celtic game’s a big game for me. If it’s not for any Celtic player, they know where the door is.

  21. Starry. Something we have failed to do indeed in the past is having goals from all over the park as you say:) But in all my years following the hoops never I have I seen such a poor return from our forwards. Hooper and big Vic our top scorers, 2 players that could be waiting for their Taxis. So goal scorers must be a priority

  22. SydneyTim

Yep I agree, I felt Gary missed his partner Anto this season and also went through a very normal strikers bad patch. I think Neil also tried some different ideas with him this season and he is a much better all round player than when he first came to us..

A lot can change this summer, looking forward to the usual transfer window nonsense, it’s been a very weird season so far, maybe to be expected with all the other issues in Scottish Football hogging the headlines and sucking the life out of the game..

I would love to see this team stay together and grow into a great team but such is the transient nature of all things now that I’m sure some will move on…
