Protecting your keeper and defence

772

If we are looking for reasons why Celtic have dropped so many points in recent weeks it is revealing that we have not kept a clean sheet away in the league since Boxing Day, and that was to bottom club Dundee.

Losing goals, of course, is seldom about the last line of defence, and losing goals this consistently is seldom even an issue with defence, in dominant teams, defenders are seldom taxed.  It is more likely a consequence of the shape of the team.  Goalkeepers should be protected, as should defences.

It’s the midfield we should be looking at.  Dominate possession and stop leaving spaces for the opposition to exploit; we’ll stop losing goals and start winning games.

It’s not all over if we stand together and fight this , what I’m trying to say is that sites like this along with supporters groups , shareholders etc have an important role to play , but we need to make a start.

    Correct.

A poll of over 1100 Celtic supporters voted by over 99% that they NEVER want to play again against our departed neighbours.

Of course, maybe they are all ‘cowards’.

  5. Croatia has rejected a warning from UEFA that fan violence and racism

could lead to its teams being banned from international competitions.

Croatia said the same problems are rife throughout Europe. Its sports

ministers and police said on Monday that the governing body should

concentrate more on its own corruption and betting scandals than

    criticising the Balkan country.

UEFA President Michel Platini sent warning letters to the Croatian and

Serbian prime ministers stating that both Balkan countries are on “yellow

cards” because of their notorious fans.

Platini has twice in two years warned Serbian and Croatian political

leaders that their national and club teams face suspension if they don’t

act to curb the problem. Neighbouring Serbia has said it will do all it can

    to curb hooliganism at stadiums.

Croatia’s ministers said in a statement that Platini’s missive to the prime

minister is diplomatically “inappropriate”, adding that the dangers at its

stadiums are no worse than the rest of Europe.

A bit of me will always be angry that Celtic did not fight the song charge from Uefa last season.

Anyone know what our phantom chairman is upto these days?

There is a big difference between a master plan and a planning application and we are now at the latter stage. The planning application is based on making the school look like a lost cause, but presumably there will be some objections. Not sure offhand of the consultancy period, might be months. If we had permission we would have heard it by now, so presume it has not yet been in front of the committee. Not a big fan of the board as a rule but I am confident they will deliver the Celtic side of it all. As for the other side of London road, well they are still looking for clients, so further behind. Could always landscape it.

  13. I am not a fan of Kojo’s posts and he knows it but there is an element of reality in some of the stuff he said earlier that a lot of us are choosing to ignore. They will be back probably in 2 years with a bit of luck maybe 3. Whether we call them Zombies which no doubt we will, the papers & TV will call them Rangers, they will play out of Ibrox and wear blue shirts, their supporters will be waving the Butcher’s Apron and the Red Hand. We will get hyper before the games, rejoice if we hammer then be in the depths of depression if we lose to them. Poster’s may say otherwise and some may boycott the games and try to immunise themselves from the pre & post match hype but it will happen. Even if Green’s regime goes bust again another group will step in and sooner or later we will have to compete against them.

  14. Kojo, are you aff yer nut, I said I don’t bother with your posts, in as much as I don’t reply to them, never said I don’t read them, and becauee I say I think you’re talking pish that makes me a kojo hater?, if that was the case then my brother, mates and mrs must feel the same as I tell them that regularly

Winning Captains – what, lil ole me? I’m a bit busy right now, with an upcoming event this weekend, but afterwards more than happy to get involved in any focussed campaigns.

You, on the other hand, have a whole load of people who subscribe to/read the CQN magazine, so I’d guess you carry a lot more influence than me!

If the club can’t go after them, then the support should. Agreed?

  17. I think our defence are too slow and tactically unaware. They leave big gaps between them and the midfield. They often surge forward and pass the ball back to or square it the midfield. The defence then stand back and admire their handiwork.

Oftentimes they put the midfield in trouble and then go galloping back to man the barricades. Trouble is that sometimes the opposition don’t run straight at the barriers and instead sneak round them. Or the dirty rotters suddenly change direction. Especially now they’ve sussed that our bhoys are not for turning.

Our fast defenders can only be so by incurring injuries.

  18. I just won a tenner from my missus.

  19. I see we have had the usual hand wringing and over the top reaction to CM comments. The guy is a professional footballer and he expressed his personal opinion, he misses games against them so what not exactly a hanging offence. Any professional footballer wants to play in high pressure games and whether we like it or not, players regarded games against them as high pressure that got their adrenaline pumping and was a match to look forward to. Yes it will be spun to suit their agenda but what’s new no matter what is said it is misrepresented. As a club we need to do more and if it means banning the MSM then so be it. Neil was the victim last week when commenting on the LNS and the following day went on the offensive against Chris Mc Laughlin but there appeared to be a lack of support from the hierarchy, it is time we banned more than the snivelling Keevins.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

i am not surprised at all that 99% voted as stated …….. For their own obvious (job protection etc) reasons, the media have launched a campaign to resurrect the zombies from hell, to reak their havoc again and, unless we make it VERY CLEAR to them that we won’t accept their ‘lying spin / agenda’ they may very well get their way….

I am, however, convinced that greengo will leave their tribute act ‘high and dry’ to face liquidation……. and I feel our Board known this ….

We need, however, to be ready for any ‘nonsense’ from the SFA / bhun supporting media etc, although the SFA confirmation of “no fastracking” is a positive development ……..
