Rangers, streetwalkers of football, face their deadline

778

There’s something undignified at the shenanigans at Ibrox right now.  Despite being under no pressure to pay the disputed tax demand, Rangers are tarting around their top player in a desperate attempt to raise money.

After the Plus Stock Exchange suspended dealing in their shares the club stated it would produce overdue accounts for season 2010-11 around the end of this month, which coincides with the end of the transfer window.  Any auditor needs to be in a position to state that the company has enough cash to be considered a going concern before he would be in a position to sign-off the accounts.  Rangers are now in a desperate bid for cash as their self-imposed (late) date to provide shareholders with statutory information has arrived.

Claims were made that a front-loaded war-chest was made available to Ex-Rangers manager, Ally McCoist (still too early?  Hmmmm) at the start of the season and it was subsequently suggested that a £9m bid was rejected for Nikica Jelavic, but now the same player is available for a fraction of that sum – available for cash, that is.

McCoist kept their season alive but as reality dawn and Neil Lennon’s Celtic turned up the heat, his challenge abated.

The trusty old media, for so long a crutch throughout Rangers rather unique history, are set to desert the White Star Line’s most famous vessel.  The day draws near.

  2. Vmhan, I dreamt that the hun had sold a catering contract to pay a few bills, they’d sold their season tickets in advance so whytey could buy the club, they’d “bunged” some journos and are on the verge of extinction….

  9. A few months ago when the Bain papers became public knowledge there followed a circular/paper that was issued by whyte; this outlined that he had indeed mortgaged season ticket money. The information has been known to the media regarding the issue. The question is why has the media chosen now to come out with the story now and not then.

I have not read the full article but from I am told the article is about the mortgage season ticket money. I repeat this has been known for months, why now and not then?

  15. Goooooddd!!!! Mooooorrrniiing!!!!!

FF is amazing. The pics of the Record have just been posted. There is virtually no reaction beyond a few “FFS”s.

Interestingly, it looks like the Record has repoduced their splashes in which they hailed Whyte as a billionaire, talked about a warchest etc. I wonder if they strategy is to say “look, he fooled even us, that’s why our tune has changed”

Immense developments in Scottish football and Scottish journalism today.

Looks like I picked the wrong day to go to work…

you`re up to your neck in feckin debt

its time that your club died

and we will party for ever

  17. Lennybjoy, why now?

Why now indeed? It is difficult not to detect the hand of Murray somewhere in all of this. But to what end? If RFC have mortgaged season ticket money for 4 years, are tardy with VAT (as I believe the Record also alleges) and are about to be hit with a 50million tax bill, can anyone save them?

The path for Newco back to the SPL looks virtually impossible. Their debts could conceivably exceed 100million pounds and include football clubs, police, HMRC and their own fans as creditors.

It’s a clusterf****, as our friends in the Marines say….

  22. As expected, no breaking news. Just a shifting of posiition by the DR so they can say they were the ones to tell the poor bears. They will claim exclusives all week now that have been on the web for months. I wonder if Phil will get any credit? RTC? No, it was all Jim Traynor and Hugh Keevins that uncovered the truth.

Look forward to Mark Hately’s next column declaring how loyal and brave the dignified Alistair has been and that nobody has the right to question him when he walks.

  23. Whyte has clearly been made a patsy, but was he a willing patsy and how much did he get paid to divert the attention on to himself?

Whyte needs a signing or 2 to shift the heat from himself temporarily

    Re the breaking story

Saw a link to the DR and noticed that AJ seems to be in there having a pop .

Made me think back to the interview he did (can’t remember what station )were he uttered the phrase

There is a saying we have in these parts ,it has two words .The first is NO the second is SURRENDER .

I remember at the time thinking WTF was that all about but as the interview seemed totally stage managed it could point to AJ making a return to Ibrokes when CW has been thrown to the bears .

Ragers sold to CW ,are we to believe that LBG/RFC did not request proof from him as to where he would get his funds from .If I am reading today’s story right ,he has actually paid the bank from future ST sales, ie the ragers fans have paid the bank debt surely this would be known by LBG/RFC

IMO the plan is firmly on track .

@Barry1Munoz @celtic_mad Celtic, Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts have all agreed to vote against direct reentry into SPL. More in podcast 170.

  28. So will the DR be any better than the BBC when it comes to jumping straight back into bed with them after getting their knuckes rapped and threatened with being sued? I assume traynor will now be banned from Ibrox until he becomes the lapdog of the Newco leader – or maybe he’s never left his side.

All that’s happening here is that the old boar members like Paul Murray are being allowed to say what they knew all along except now it’s not bitter grapes but “the truth”.
