There is always a frisson of excitement when the new season’s fixtures are announced but there is an extra spring in the step today.  Flag-day for the champions will be the weekend of 4/5 August against Aberdeen but I’m sure, like me, your eye ran down the list, rhyming off the names: Aberdeen, United, Ross County, Inverness, Hibs, St Johnstone, Club 12!

You had a smile to yourself, didn’t you?

SPL secretary, Iain Blair, explains, “Following the failure of Rangers FC to exit administration via a CVA, we have received an application to register the transfer of their SPL share to a newco. Should it be rejected, then another club may be invited to join the SPL for season 2012/13.”

That pretty much covers it, Iain, Rangers FC’s share will pass to either Newco or another club may be invited to join. Simple enough language to explain where we are.

As recently as a week ago I was pretty sure the fixtures would contain Newco but sentiment has been flowing against the concept since Charles Green took the SFA to court, inadvertently inviting a severe punishment from the Association as well as annoying SPL chairmen.

The BBC SPL table is also worth a cursory glance, resplendent with only One Team in Glasgow!

Personally I think that many of you are being too harsh on the team formally known as rangers.

I mean, surely there can be compromise. Surely the huns don’t need to go all the way down to Division 3. Surely that can be good for Scottish fitba.

So as a halfway house, a compromise, I would like to propose that the the rangers are not actually sent down, but instead they can be a standby team in the SPL and if one team cant make it one week, the rangers can stand in and take their place.

This will be especially useful in the winter time, if the likes of inverness Aberdeen and ross county cant make it down to play in the central belt because of inclement weather then the the rangers can stand in for them.

I wouldn’t want folk seeing us as unreasonable…

  3. Definitely considering buying a full season book this year……..a great investment in the team.

Dave King says Rangers need a new tax evasion scheme if the club is going to dominate Scottish football again.

At the moment, he believes Rangers only represent a good buy for a big ass stripper.

King was the second largest shareholder in the soon-to-be-liquidated Rangers Football Club plc.

He arrived in Scotland on Monday for discussions about the way ahead for the new Rangers.

Asked if the best way forward for the club would be under the Walter Smith-led consortium, who held a preliminary meeting with the current owners through an intermediary on Sunday, he said: “I would think so because my understanding from [new chief executive] Mr [Charles] Green is that he sees this as being a financial opportunity, Walter will see this as a way of playing the tax authorities until Rangers v3 is founded.

“I really don’t believe Rangers represents a financial opportunity for anyone other than an big ass stripper.

“There is only one way forward for the club and that is that the club needs a level of funds which is way beyond the ability of the fans to support it with season tickets.

“There is a structured financial deficit and unless the club gets access to funders who are willing to put money in on a non-commercial basis, I think for at least three years, then I don’t think the club will go forward.”

King reiterated his belief that Green, like Craig Whyte before him, would not see out a season at Ibrox, but he added: “If Mr Green does come up with the money, then I’ll be one of the first to support him.

“I think what we do have to avoid is another situation where essentially someone has come in and acquired the club and is going to use the fans’ lack of money.”

King said he had requested a beating of Green while he was in Glasgow but was unsure whether that would happen.

He will, though, be speaking to members of the Walter Smith consortium, but has not committed to putting money in himself, as this is all owed to the South African tax authority.

“I’m able to do it, it’s just a case of making sure what makes most sense for the club,” he went on.

“If I believe the right plan is put in place, that I think best meets the needs of the club going forward, then it’s certainly something I would consider and am capable of doing. Honestly I’ve got money, I’m not skint!”

  14. I have had a season ticket since the temporary stand days. I have bought shares at 2 shares issues.

By not renewing, yet, on a point of principle, then to some on here I am now a ‘pretend’ Celtic supporter.

  15. sonofdan ;

you have clearly set your stall out – you will support Celtic no matter what. Fair play.

But there are others, and I’m one of them, that will not finance in any way a corrupt league and association seemingly run purely for the benefit of one member or organisation. If a new entity carrying the rotting carcass of a club that appears to have systematically cheated the entire professional football setup of this nation over 15+ years is simply waved back in to the top division then I’m out.

I love Celtic, I love going to watch them, I’ve had my season ticket since 1989 and I happily bought my shares in 1994/5 but if they come back into the SPL like that they are vindicated and no amount of chanting or banners will alter the fact that they got away with it.

The precedent has been set with Gretna, three years outside the professional game until you can produce the requisit accounts then you can apply to the SFL div 3 was the sentence for them. Why not for Sevco?

I will settle for them in div 3, but not for SPL lite or whatever they want to call the zombie life raft they are currently attempting to cobble together at Hampden.

    ress Statement ~ Rangers FC

At its meeting earlier today, the SPL Board considered a number of issues relating to Rangers FC.

    EBT Investigation

The SPL Board heard a report from its solicitors following the investigation into payments to, or for the benefit of, players allegedly made by Rangers FC outside of contract.

The delay in concluding the investigation was caused by an initial lack of co-operation from Rangers FC.

The investigation has now been completed and, in the view of the SPL, there is a prima facie case to answer in respect of its Rules.

Disciplinary charges will be brought when the future status of Rangers FC is clarified and prior to the start of season 2012/13.

    General Meeting

An application for registration of transfer of Rangers’ SPL share has been received. Consideration of the application will depend on receipt by the SPL Board of all required documentation and verification.

A general meeting of all 12 member clubs has been convened for 10am on Wednesday 4 July 2012 for members to decide whether to approve the transfer.

I think you are being disingenuous with regards Ernie but I think Ernie is failing to recognise the unseen Fenian hand.

Barcabhoys third question … what do you call an EBT and that money is given to somebody else. I would suggest it is called a sub budget. The type of vehicle you would use if somebody is bribing journalists, police, match officials, football administrators etc ?. Did Sir David Murray really need 6m pound tax free EBT money ??

Are ex hun directors squealing where all there EBT money really went to to avoid personal taxation on it ?

    ———————————————————————

I think it is clear that the only way Sevco will get in the SPL is if the league is expanded as opposed to a straight swap. Lawwell and Petrie ensures that will not happen. Unless one of them is being openly dishonest.

When it comes to expansion of the SPL this summer however would Dunfermline still be entitled to have a right to vote in it ? Could this bypass Lawwell and Petries public stance with Dundee getting an invite also?

Is the SPL Fixture list now legally binding or can they rip it up and start again ?

    —————————————————–

I loved the SKY spin in today’s press. Quite simply if you believe that the huns are Scottish football then it reads like a press release from BFDJ himself. The “we dont do walking away” quotes should be enough for us to realise that SKY are playing hard ball and that Jim White, Neil Mc Cann, David Tanner are just low down the SKY hierarchy. SKY is as polluted as BBC Scotland is with regards taking advantage of sub budgets and reaching your employers targets. Bonus culture

I reckon SKY became a candidate for sub budgets along with Shug Dallas round about the nine in a row season for them. That was a real cash generator for SKY. No way would Moonbeams not lubricate that actually happening.

I think Ernie’s point is a valid one.

The extra incentive for Celtic, if there was a marked decrease in sales, would be to increase their efforts in pursuing justice for all.

However, we do not know to what extent Celtic have been active and I am one who does not want them to make public statements.

As a non ST holder and now very infrequent match attender, perhaps my opinion is invalid, however many of us voice opinions about events that happen in places where we don’t live and in events that don’t directly involve us.
