Reality is a different country

1769

I was asked a cracking question last night: ‘Everyone knows Rangers went into administration on 14 February 2012, but do you know what date they came out of administration?’

Can anyone guess? This is the material Cognitive Dissonance is made of.

Duff and Phelps did an incredible job. Had they stuck to Whyte’s plan, put a fait accompli to the SPL, with a matter of days to decide, ‘Our Hero’ would still own the ground, the club and would still be exalted by those who initially crowned him ‘Our Hero’, before the term became a weapon of irony.

We got a further glimpse into the goings-on at Cardiff before popular and successful manager, Malky Mackay, was sacked.  Chief exec, Simon Lim, while commenting on the £30m loss the club made last season, as a Championship club, spoke of the signing of 20-year-old striker Andreas Cornelius for £7.5m, from Copenhagen, with a £45k per week, 5 year contract, somewhat more than the £6k he was previously coping with in Denmark.

Earlier this month Malky said, “What I said at the time still stands. £7.5m was our record transfer at the time but a hit-the-ground-running centre-forward in the Premier League costs two or three times that and every team in the Premier League are striving for someone like that.”

There you have it, £7.5m is not enough to buy a hit-the-ground-running centre-forward, you’ll need two or three times that! In England, reality really is a different country (this is not me getting involved in the referendum debate, before the nationalists start trolling me again).

English football is broken in ways it is increasingly difficult to fathom. Only the persistent annual losses and ballooning debt figures offer a glimpse into what the future may hold.

Our namesakes, Belfast Celtic, withdrew from league football shortly after their players were attacked by a mob following the final whistle at game against Linfield on Boxing Day 1948. Star man, Jimmy Jones, died yesterday. The then 20-year-old was thrown over a wall and out of the stadium, breaking his leg in the process.

That was the end for Belfast Celtic but Jimmy recovered and is the Irish League’s all-time top goalscorer.

If the Celtic Board are as daft as Ratner we are screwed.

I cannot believe they would embark on the course to cut Celtic from its roots, even unintentionally, but that is the narrative.

I hope its wrong for a million reasons.

John O’Neil. He in my opinion was thought of as the great guru by most Celtic fans he did a good job but an expensive one for us.I am sure with the money he spent other managers could have done as well his football was to play the ball from the back to the front missing out the mid field as often as possible not the most attractive. When he looks back on his career he is in my opinion going to see that Celtic were the biggest club he ever managed.H.H.

Some good points there. See what you can achieve when you chose to be sensible. I always knew you would hit form at some point.

I think Celtic have already implemented wage capping, admission prices dropped for season tickets this season, but we are at the mercy of television and the reality is Celtic are in no position to dictate on the schedule – no club in the world is able to do that.

On Scottish players, I don’t care where our players come from if they are good enough. We can hypothesise on people like Russell and Fletcher, but the reality is the majority of our best players in the last 20 years have been from outside Scotland.

I don’t care about the kit. Manufacturers have control on these things worldwide as well. Just look around the leagues and you will see evidence of kits designed on acid trips. Even the Hoops are rubbish this season, but we’ll have another change of kit soon enough.

The Green Man. I think we Celtic fans should wake up and forget trying to guess what is happening or going to happen at Ibrokes. We should concentrate on Celtic I recently said the Rangers are still in 3 competitions out of 4 they entered we are in only 1 out of 4 we entered so who are the mugs here. Forget the Newco and lets worry about Celtic. H.H.

That was some story Mr. Gallagher had to tell. He ain’t going to go to his grave bleating “if only”.

Whos last 3 gaffers who tried to play the celtic way… Mowbray ,barnes and burns ?

I too long to see us play flair football and with our defence at moment no reason we cant.

Mulgrew never a midfielder.. Browns passing is league of ireland standard.. I like both these players but sadly what im saying is true. I think :-)

Mccourt should have started 90% of our home games and few away games… Thrown on for 5mins when we are drawing or goal behind was disgraceful. Crowd already in bad form and first bad pass or failing to beat a man they were on his back.

When given a start or on with lead in tact he thrived. So talented it was scary at times.

  9. Joe, I would be reluctant to state that Martin’s Celtic team only played in one way. Do you not remember the build up to Liam Miller’s goal against Lyon? There were 20-25 passes completed prior to the finish. It wasn’t all long ball.

  10. Bognorbhoy………& etc.

Brilliant, I remember watching it on Soccer AM a couple of years back!

I think we could try something similar in Section 113.

  11. It seems, that no matter what, scoddland will save sevco.

The blatant nature of the corruption and honest mistakes, tells you all you need to know. The cheating is institutional and always will be, because we do not challenge it.

So, can we put all this guff about the downfall of sevco, to bed, because its not happening.

Concentrate on the motives of our board, imo they have a lot to answer for, and its time they were held to account for their actions.

If supporters want to prop up a corrupt league system, fill your boots, but that’s not for me.

  13. Mention of the Barnes, Burns and Mowbray style of football reminded me of a European performance against Hamburg. We were humped in both legs. Lucky us. Well it was Hamburg afterall. Abysmal coaching and defending. Setting Free The Bears is correct to ascertain that we were useless in Europe for decades. These are generally better times. It seems to have been forgotten by those who see only misery now and in future at Celtic Park.

Big rough diamond of a man, Kit, I helped make order of his papers which were in a carrier bag, all loose, and scrawled in what looked like sandskrit!

I spoke to him this morning on the phone and he has decided to publish free online as he can no longer manage to do his outside protests in Clydebank due to health reasons.

Doesn’t set himself up as an angel but is a very decent man, though I wouldn’t have liked to know him in his pomp. Tottsie’s nephew? recently go life for murdering his mate by sticking a pitchfork into his skull!

It follows you too, some of the Beatie’s from Yoker, who your mate most like knew of, run the local football team here. There were a few raised eyebrows when my kids used to turn up in the hoops.

If ever there is a time to experiment and potentially excite the fans it is now. We will win the league and if Lennon does not give youth a chance then what’s the point? I really believe NFL team of coaches is not strong enough, then again the question is strong enough for SPFL but are they good enough to compete in Europe? We badly need a new version of Naka/Lubo but that flair player seems to be not what Lennon relates to, he prefers the workers rather than the highly skillful flair players and that is the main problem at the moment.

I had the pleasure of attending that game. 50 francs I believe.

Also there might have been reports in some newspaper but if it’s not in the record it doesn’t count ;)

  24. Apologies Kitalba. I have to go. Additionally I cannot do links. Well, it would have appeared a day or two after the incident I guess.

I may be wrong, but I think the club issued a statement on the abuse Neil received at Tynecastle.

I would have thought it unlikely they would speak out against vile songs by opposing fans at a match. Otherwise many clubs in many lands would be issuing statements every week :-)

Err, the board have cut season books for more than one reason

    1. Poor attendances last season were a cause for concern

    2. Attendances have been going down for a while as financial problems for regular folk continues

    3. Good financial performances by the club means that they could afford the cut

Yet the fans haven’t turned up. For most, I doubt that it is in protest and rather that they would prefer to be in a warm pub watching it.
