Reason to enjoy Wednesday night number 67: Victor Wanyama didn’t get booked.
21-year-old Victor is a fabulous talent but he has also been a tad rash in his earlier Champions League outings this season. One more yellow card will bring a suspension but his timing, and more importantly, his concentration, on Wednesday was excellent. This is a player maturing; more to come.
The 1254125 charity cycle left Lurgan this morning for Belfast port where they caught a ferry to Cairnryan. After they set wheel on Scotland they have a 37 mile cycle to Maybole, 7 miles of which is uphill, one of the most difficult parts of the endeavour.
They are people with the spirit of this club pumping through their veins right now. Check out their everyclick page for more information.

Saint Stivs
He definatly pointed me in the direction of the Wakes.
Aye, I enjoyed both their music tastes, as diverse as hell.
I think it is his son who sometimes posts here, and I can’t recall his name either, it’s on the tip of ma tongue, and bugging me.
And you are right, no poppies.
I love this voice, passion to beat the band.

onto another subject.
Victor Wanyama’s interview on Skysports tonight was fantastic.
His Kenyan family. his local environment, real poverty, real hardship.
his family, sporting stars allready, McDonald allready played in the champions league, but Victor is the 1st kenyan goalscorer ever.
he wants to stay for now, loves NFL, loves Celtic, lover Scotland, enjoying life, wants to win things, oh, and really loves Neil Lennon.
Time for bed, as I will be having a day off, I will miss the 11th hour thing, hey ho.
As evey, this blog is an education.
Take care and god bless Timland.

Stalinism has it’s 40 million victims. These 20 million victims in Russia are not who fought against Nazis but who died during war. Many died in Syberia. Many died due to small nations genocide there, or because they were enemies of Communism.
No poppy by James McClean and no poppy by Martin O’Neill.
Quite rightly so too.If ye want to go and remember people who have died in ALL wars and civilians too then do it at 11am tomorrow
ht,
There was nothing aggressive about my question, your perception is maybe a bit coloured though:o)
Whatever your opinion
free speech is no bad thing.
It is always worth fighting for.

Kit,
Anything on the demented mainland soldiers, who returned and sent to Ireland as the Black and Tans, to oppress a nation who volunteered to aid Britain in its hour of need ?
Remember lhads the poppy is honouring the Black and Tans
who murdered my family………….and I am expected to conform???
Canamalar has only one position and that is to be aggressive. I once was looking for some help from my fellow Celtic fans and got abuse from him. He will abuse me for this. I am glad to say he does not represent the Celtic fans that I know. I will ignore him.
Saint Stivs,
Oh and his country was plundered by the Brits who a lot of people should think we should remember..who butchered the natives to their graves.
This poppy crap happens every year and we never learn.
The Huns, old and new, have hijacked it to show what a bunch of fine, upstanding, patriotic citizens they are. In contrast of course, to the despicable, IRA-loving Fenian bassas across the city.
Then they score some invaluable PR points across the UK when sections of our support make a needless fuss about a poppy being on the shirt and a minutes’ silence being held at the match.
I understand, respect and sympathise with those in our support who have good reason to feel revulsion at the poppy and all it has come to stand for (the government has changed what it stands for to suit their own political ends). I even share those feelings in large part.
I’m also conflicted in that the First World War was an unimaginable tragedy which cost the lives of millions of young men, lied to by their governments and sent off to die a futile death, while in WWII, millions more died to save the continent from an unimaginably evil political creed.
I want to remember and mark their sacrifice.
I think wear a poppy, or don’t wear one.
When it comes to the minutes’ silence, desecrating it will only make the club look bad.
We should, as a support, respect the silence and after it’s over get on with the important business of supporting the team.
The Sevco fans will be absolutely GUTTED if we do that.

MrZ,
Stalin was not a communist, we have covered this subject before, the easy way to distinguish is to understand the philosophy of communism the try and reconcile that with Stalins regime.

Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire:
Canamalar, whatever we do, even nothing, even coughing, some are going to try and soil our rights to live and think.
I’ve got plenty on it, right at this moment I am reading my third book in a row about them and what they did in the name of the crown. I don’t want to post anything about people like they today, I don’t think the issue is about how bad certain elements of the British Forces can be; every military force has its rogue fractions.
I can respect the dead, from all quarters, who are deserving, without demeaning my own demographics memories and values. This is a nonsense having memorial services at football games but if that is their crass commercial ace, then I fell more sorry for the living than the dead and Ifear the future that good men and women died for is being manipulated and bastardised by political kin of the very ones they fought and died against.
A minutes silence is not servile shame, it is a show of respect. If followed by a rendition of The Soldiers song then it would be extending the respect and homage to those from Ireland too who fought in the great wars but who are having their own pain and suffering air brushed from popular history.
I say keep the silence… keep the memory of all the good Scots and Irish and others close to your hearts. Don’t let sorrows rapists rob you of your birth rights. Whatever one does, as long as in their hearts they mean no malice, then for them it is the right thing; and when it comes to the bottom line, isn’t that why so many died in the first place… to preserve freedom of speech and expression.
a wee distraction.

I detect an anti Russian tone
so i will tread carefully.
Stalingrad was the turning point of the Second WW.
Without the Russian bravery and sacrifice the Nazis
may have conquered europe.
Mise,
I don’t remember that incident but if you say so
If you care to read back, I don’t think you’ll find much aggression
Simply points and counter points but don’t let that get in the way of your opinionThanks for the input.
I hardly ever post on CQN now but every year at this time I feel the need to do so. I can appreciate and respect the guys who don’t want to wear the poppy or observe the minutes silence , some of the behaviour of the British army during the troubles in NI was dispicable.
If you don’t then fine don’t wear a poppy and stay outside until the silence is over , for guys like me it’s different. My late father was a royal marine commando during the 2nd world war, there was no choice you were conscripted, he and his brother , my uncle George, signed up for the marines. By the nature of what marines do they spent most of the war on the front line , lost friends and in my fathers case got wounded, luckily he and my uncle made it home. My father was very proud of what he and his colleagues achieved and he was a member of the royal marine association all his days along wirh uncle george. He was also the biggest Celt you could meet. My uncle George’s partner cathy took me to my first ever game in the early 70s v Aberdeen she gave me celtic and I have been going ever since . She was a glaxgow clippy who followed celtic home and away invluding lisbon. Tomorrow I want that minute to remember my dad , uncle George and cathy , she wiukd have just loved Wednesday night, so remember all the good celtic men who gave their life for wars they didn’t start and let their families remember them , as I will tomorrow, without any nonsense .
Sorry about typos in my post iPhone !
Damo Lennon
very good post, mate
Excellent article from Kevin McKenna.
Saint Stivs-Are ye back down the Port or where are ye?
Canamalar
Stalin was the Communist. Covered or not covered it won’t change the fact. He is good example of the communist. Different view? Unless you talk about the communists fictional from the books and they better stay there. Communism is evil and like Fascism comes from evil.

Say Hello to the Provos
Canamalar, You maybe didn’t mean it that way (I have certainly trangressed that way myself) but at the time I was looking for help from my fellow fans (and I got it from others), but all I got from you was mocking. It put me off posting on CQN for quite some time. You might like to reflect on that.
My Final word for the night. I am an Irish Republican plain & simple and despite my Grandad taking a bullet in the shoulder & my Grandmother’s brother getting killed in WW1 I wouldn’t or couldn’t ever wear a poppy myself and in addition to this I am totally opposed to the compulsory element of bringing War Remembrance into Sporting arenas where many people of different Nationalities and different political views are gathered to watch a Football game. Having clearly stated my position I would be a hypocrite if I objected to anyone wearing a poppy as freedom of expression is a 2 way thing. To the Celts going to the game that are unhappy about the minutes silence, I would still say box clever, don’t make noise, don’t give them anything to throw at us. We are better then them just because we let them get on with their minutes silence doesn’t make us traitors or cowards. Beidh la eile.
I have no problem in remembering the
fallen of WW1 & WW2.
My father served with the A&S Highlanders
but thankfully he was more interested in football
than shooting people.
.
Mayby the Ole UK..Should create a Day Like ANZAC Day (Just a Aussie excuse for another Holiday)..and have it Midweek..
Cant see Poppy’s being worn in The Champions League..:O)
or..
“Doing The Huddle to Remember OUR Heroes”..
as OldTim would say..Simples..
Summa
Ps..The 2 Minute silence has Just passed Down-Under (Without a Murmur..)..:O(
Kit,
If you read my earlier posts on the subject, I personally will spent the minute reflecting on the slaughter of the innocents.
I have requested the Green Brigade hold aloft a banner with the White Poppy and one word INNOCENTS printed, this simple show will allow all supporters to reflect, it will also destroy the stitch up.
What I refuse to do is condemn any Celtic supporter who does not respect the silence, that is the right our forefathers fought and died to protect in WW2.
Neither will I support any Celtic supporter who wants to enforce poppy fascism.
I’m well aware of what will happen if the silence is disturbed but that I will blame on the board for allowing the club to be used as a political tool.
So called christians like Thatcher and Bush, are evil, I hope the rot in hell.
One man’s terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.

Back in the kennel.Oh you are hurting,so so hurting.
Canamalar, maybe if you polled people on here you might get a result you don’t like. Quite often I agree with the point you are trying to make. Seldom do I like the way you are making it.

spending more time across in Duntocher as nephew plays for Antonine now,
i like it better than thw port now,
less chance of having to talk with anyone from greenock
Somehow, to desecrate a minutes silence seems wrong, even if we disagree fundamentally with the reasons for that silence.
