Referring to a team no longer with us

753

Let’s be clear, you cannot punish a player on the basis that he has made a comment which is only offensive, offence is subjective, highly so in Scottish football, where thousands await the opportunity.

Nor can you punish a player for a derogatory remark which may offend, especially if the remark does not call into question the probity of the subject.  “Hearts are rotten, we beat them easily twice this season”, is a derogatory remark and will offend some Hearts fans, but it also falls into the category of being a fair opinion.

And without pointing out the obvious, you cannot offend the dead.  John Guidetti and the club are right to contest this ridiculous charge, which by context, clearly refers to a team no longer with us.

I was absolutely astonished to read that newco (and former oldco) director, Paul Murray, explained Dave King’s absence from newco’s recent share as he is waiting until the SFA “have completed their review of Dave’s status before he can fully participate in the future of the Club”.

The SFA have no issue whatsoever in Dave King investing heavily in newco, or in owning all shares.  Indeed, King is already the largest shareholder, which has attracted no attention from the football authorities.

The prospect of King sloping off if the SFA judge him not Fit and Proper (which I think they will), is a fabulous twist in the work of this legendary non-executive director of a dead club.  He sat on the oldco board which paid EBTs for so many years, he stayed while they made no provision for the HMRC tax case, plunging into the transfer market instead.  Now he awaits the whim of the SFA before deciding to invest, having led newco away from their primary source of funding.

What a star.

    Well said Sir

  9. Anyone remember the media attacks on the Huns when they were financially doping themselves to trebles in the 90s?

    ….Nah, me neither.

“In war, truth is the first casualty.”

Make no mistake this is a PR war and we are taking a real doing. Celtic need to establish a PR department, and learn to fight back. If only, to deter scandalous headlines, which will find traction with the public, even when false.

  11. The Celtic PR dept?

    Do we actually have one?!

If we do, it is not fit for purpose imo.

I’m quite sure the great Desmondo has one.

But then again, he thinks that sevco are a great club with a long and proud(sic) history!

    HH!!

  12. The RST statement is poisonous rhetoric, designed to provoke and, like other issues, destabilise our club.

Be clever Celtic,be quiet!…do your talking on the pitch!

  13. By way of clarification, I’m not urging Celtic to respond to every crackpot statement, but to ensure that SMSM are not given free reign to peddle their poison.

  14. Tinfoil heids reputation and ego lie shattered in the gutter outside the big hoose, he like the newco he follows is trying to desperately cling onto our coat tail as we pass sniggering at them in the vain attempt to climb out,

The thought of thousands of Tims pointing and laughing at them as they look up is killing them second by second.

You ascribe more power and influence to me than I have. I (think) I know only one other regular poster on here (met at a FAC event). I am not a member of the CSA, ACSC or CST. I have no agenda.

I do not know or work with any ‘leaders’ and I don’t know any ‘clique’ personalities.

You are bumping your gums re the RST. I’m just saying if you decide to do more than that I’d be happy to support you.

    No spin, no agendas…

Did you not have one of your wee spats with HT re entry to a representative meeting? If I have got that historical spat wrongly phrased…happy to be corrected.

Yes regarding Hamilton that’s true, he called me a snake one night on here when I wasent here, and questioned to me as whether I was at the meeting and I proved him wrong, and he has admitted, that, once again your avoiding the issue,, I’m backing Celtic The Board and one of our players here, and Celtic have made a statement too, and thats as far as Celtic can take it, now all I’m saying is that Celtic would like a little hand now and again and bows the time, if we as Celtic fans want to sit back and take this sheet from thems, without a reply then so be it, then I know there is no group leadership, and it is what it is, now if me supporting Celtic and the Board and a Celtic player upsets you then to bad, I don’t know who the leaders of the groups are like yourself I havent a clue, but the silence from them is deafening, make a statement, say some thing, that’s all I’m saying is that not allowed? Are we not all Tims? Are we going to be pushed around by the HUNS? HEY,! Don’t round of on me I’m making my point, ask the leaders of the Celtic groups why they are saying nothing, don’t question me for saying some thing.

I genuinely don’t want to get into a disagreement on here with you. It’s boring for everyone else and it drags the blog down.

    Couple of wee things.

You didn’t prove me wrong, it was JPT who, in response to an email, confirmed that you were at the meeting.

I questioned whether you were there because you’d claimed for days leading up to the meeting that you’d be going but your name didn’t appear on the seating plan.

I thought it was reasonable to doubt your attendance under these circumstances.

Granted I could have done so in a more appropriate manner.

Your brother was at the table and I assume, though don’t know, that he was there as a representative for a supporters group. Is that incorrect?

  19. DD

Ive been working like a madman….missed a few meet ups, but im sure we will get round to it.

I didn’t bring your name up, I was just answering him, and yes it was after you called me a snake, you found out I was telling truth, and yes you are correct as I had told you that I was with him,my brother, and that he was representing a group yes, what that had to do with my conversation with him on here I don’t know, as I said I was just answering him,.
