Rest Brown, Tierney and others for Tynecastle, Ben Nevis Huddle

471

Sunday’s game at Tynecastle is a bit of a dead rubber for both Hearts and Celtic.  The home team cannot finish higher or lower than sixth place, while the Champions will be rested after a few days in Tenerife.

I know you want to rattle a few goals past Hearts; make up for the defeat there earlier in the season and, well, because they are Hearts, but this should not be a priority.  We are two weeks away from a Scottish Cup Final and the opportunity to become the first team in Scottish history to win back-to-back trebles.

Neither Motherwell nor St Johnstone have much to play for in their game this weekend, but you can be sure Motherwell will have an eye on the Cup Final.  They will rest players and allow strains to recover.  We must do the same.

I would rest the captain, Ajer, Boyata, Tierney and Forrest.  Set the priority right and be ready for Hampden.

Celtic FC Foundation, Ben Nevis Huddle

After a three year gap, the Celtic fans will be back on Ben Nevis on mass on 30 June, to raise funds for the Foundation.  This is a rare opportunity for those of us unfamiliar with mountains to ascend Britain’s tallest in the company of supportive Celtic fans.

Participants are asked to raise (only) £130 for the Foundation.  It is a great opportunity, see here for more details and to sign up this weekend.

  1. Well, he did it, Steve Gerrard is Sevco Manager…

Did not see this one getting over the line.

I have either underestimated Sevco Rangers or overestimated Stevie G…

Yet on the whole I think its a good thing, it will bring attention and focus to Scottish Football. It will keep Celtic on their toes (not that we’ve been needing geeing up), without a serious concrete threat to the Champions.

In fact, if you look at the top six Clubs you have to say that SG looks like the sixth best Manager. Although I’m sure he can overtake Craig Levein next season.

That is of course, if there is going to be a next Season for Sevco…

Mind you progress has been made, the sale of the Season Books was hugely important and they seemed to have secured that.

The next problem they have is… all the other problems that require cash.

    Club running costs

    Team running costs

    Legacy Legal Settlements

    Paying back the soft Loans

    The stadium repairs/maintenance

    Close Brothers “overdraft”

    Etc… Etc…

    Oh! And not forgetting…

    …Stevie’s W-A-R-C-H-E-S-T!!!

Now, I know all about Fictive Investments and how this funding can make all these “challenges” disappear. Leaving Mr Gerrard to concentrate on closing the gap.

Yet interestingly enuff, this wasn’t mentioned…

    Hail Hail

Wonder if this will provoke Brendan even just a wee tiny bit? You know–“who does he think he is, coming to challenge me in my kingdom? I’ll show him who is the master…cheeky scouse git!!”

Could get tasty next season….hun media lovin’ it. I forecast much drooling and fawning at press conferences next term…bbc will be sick if they remain banned…wee chico and wee chris will be greetin’ at the end of the tunnel…

  3. BSR @ 4:07,

I’ve got to say this sort of comment confuses the bejesus out of me.

Why is Peter Lawwell responsible for Rangers’ actions, up to and including cheating and illegality.

Here’s the deal ghuys – we were (among) the victims…

We were not wearing a mini skirt and high heels and asking for it!!!

    Hail Hail

  4. I’m very surprised that Gerrard has agreed to work with these shysters and vagabonds. Whether he has the full picture or not, who knows?

Anyway, I would be more concerned if a studious proven Manager took the job. A Steve Clarke or Tony Pulls type who would get them organised and tough to beat. Gerrard is a Hail Mary appointment. A massive risk that has much more chance of failing than succeeding. There will be so much noise between now and a ball being kicked next season, by the time they kick off they will be world beaters, again! He will not be able to live up to their expectations and he wont get time. The reality is he isn’t even as well qualified for the job as Murty.

These are different times and times in which Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are odds on to crush him and to crush them.

I don’t have any kids. 43yo is of no relevance, the pleasure is,well,it just must be.

I have a niece and a nephew, and I love them dearly. I’ve spoiled them for years, and handed them back. It’s what uncles do,innit?

My bestie sent me a photo of his granddaughter, and a photo of her Celtic Cutie outfit. Roughly the same time as your wee Fionnuala was born,so was Lexi. I sent her a Welcome to the World card.

    It’s a beautiful place,Stevie.

  7. CHAIRBHOY @5.07

Indeed – and no reply seemingly forthcoming.

Contrary to popular misconception and with deep Celtic supporter cynicism implied in the post Peter Lawwell or Celtic, did and do not run Scottish Football.

A recently used analogy was, what did AC , Inter, or Roma et all, do about Juventus cheating ( or Rubentus to Italians from other clubs)

Nada, Celtic supporters whether they’re on the Celtic payroll or not are merely victims , we could not intervene.

All that is left is to support Celtic IMHO whilst enjoying the curse of Rainjurz and their cheating which manifested itself in the gift of Sevco.

Apologies if people are aware of this already.

Glasgow City Council have revived the plan to ban car parking around Celtic Park as far away as Abercromby Street!

The consultation period has begun and closes on the 1st of June.

It will make getting to Celtic Park very difficult for anyone who has difficulty walking a long distance.

There is a link to allow people to make an electronic response.

    Please get writing folks.

GGH- Any links mate, ? Disgraceful decision, if the cooncil had any brains, they would put parking meters/spaces, and they could charge £4-5 a space for duration of the game. The areas they are talking about, won’t be redeveloped anyway…HH

The Question of funding for The Rangers has to be looked at now they say they have been surviving on soft loans ? and yet Gerrard has been told he will recieve 40 Million pounds over the next 2 years for incoming transfers. Also we can be assured his salary will be one of the top salaries for managers in the SPL then there are his back room staff and player contracts they will have to pay off to get rid of there dead wood. Now in my opinion they cant cover all the spending with soft loans they obviously are being funded by somone or some group. Old Rangers under Murray were happy to cheat are the new Rangers under King any different ? H.H.

  11. Chris Sutton has done us a wee turn, he put Gerrard up on a high horse then set the agenda for his appointment, Triumph or Disaster. It might not sound like much but Chris knows what he is doing and he will chip away at it.

As CEO, PL is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the business, including if we are being cheated, and is charged with seeking redress. That is his job.

We are not responsible for what they did. but, as CEO, he is responsible (i) if something we did, or failed to do, allowed it to happen, and (ii) to ensure that we took all reasonable steps to seek redress.

Can we say that he did either? No. Because Celtic refuses to speak about these issues.

CQN wants to examine Rangers’ failings in detail and celebrate Celtic’s successes. But, with the exception of a few posters, it doens’t seem like people want to examine Celtic’s problems.

It seems like we dont have to be good …. as long as we are better than them…

I think Celtic needs to leave that sort of parochial thinking behind …

and there was a time when CQN did that … but it seems to have stopped.

I know we want to rest players for the final, but we have to be careful with it…

Unlike football, where the league is paramount ….North American sports are more about the playoffs … league is mostly about setting seedings for the playoffs…

once teams clinch a playoff spot or seeding, the end of season games can become meaningless … so teams rest their stars…

That is similar to the present situation in which Celtic finds itself ..

but a lot of times, teams slow down/rest up for the playoffs, but then, once the playoffs start, find it hard to kick it back into first gear….

where it is a one off game, the risk is even greater…

so, for me, I would rest no more than 3 starters per game…. and rotate them each week … so that each starter gets a week’s rest, but the team doesn’t lose its focus

  21. Good evening good ghuys

Will Glasgow City Council be applying similar parking restrictions round the other stadiums in Glasgow Hampden, Firhill , Ibrox , Scotstoun Showground where Glasgow Warriors play ?

Transport to the stadium improvements or even build a train station next to the Parkhead Forge should be brought in first , not ths widescale clampdown.

Will the vacant bus park used by competitors at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at the junction of Dalmarnock and Springfield Roads be opened up for cars as it is when there are big events at the Emirates.?

Also, the wee watch your motor guys in Dalmarnock will lose out also (smiley thing)

  25. Gerrard’s appointment a shot in the arm for Scottish football. Nothing like a change and must say I’m looking forward to next season already. We will see if this guy is any good..
